I think since the Dutch goal, England was all over them and it was only a matter of time before probably Foden would've found the net! Is that the polite way of saying 'what pish'? England were all over Holland in the first half and that was only stifled by the somewhat enforced change by Koeman which blunted the English midfield but was never s change with any ambition to win a football match. Sure the penalty was a poor decision but over the 90 minutes Englsnd fully deserved the win and without the penalty it was still one goal each so whose to say they wouldn't have got to the final. All I know for sure is that if Jorginho was English he wouldn't have got a game...
July 11, 20242 yr As much as i think Kane is a hinderance to our attack he has to start the final. it must be absolute chaos for a defender spending 70 minutes with the striker dropping deep and having no one to mark and then having someone with fresh legs coming on willing to run in behind. No surprise the subs have had such an impact, defenders heads must be spun.

France and Italy have won tournaments winning ugly, but they are in full control, they knew what they were doing. England have no control with Southgate's tactics. Southgate's tactics haven't worked throughout the whole tournament. It's only when England get desperate and Southgate abandons the plan that they find a way through. It's entirely down to individualism. If that's what it takes to win the tournament, then I'll take it, but it won't change my opinion on Southgate.
July 11, 20242 yr Can’t see Southgate landing a Premiership job. He didn’t have a particularly special pedigree prior to l the England appointment, and can see him remaining in International football, possibly for a gulf state, emerging football nation. Seems a nice enough chap. Hope him well. Good gaffer gig. You don’t have to wake up early every day to go to the training ground, can travel across the continent staying in 5 Star Hotels on scouting missions, get paid a kings ransom. Tough old life

Still helps a lot to get an easy penalty before half time but I do agree, it did look like England was going to score.

No doubt some decent team will give him an opportunity to start off (please Man Utd). However a few years down the line I see the headline “Sir Gareth sacked as Derby County relegated to League two”. Also Clearlake don’t you f**king dare even think about it. 5 hours ago, WhiteWall said: Think he has got Newcastle stamped all over him. Actually I'd take that right now. Straight swap of Howe for Sir Gareth. I wish he goes to man u! Unfortunately he's too smart for that, he knows he'll be found out at club level. He will most likely want an FA job after this, with a break first obviously. Or I can maybe see him in another international manager position but he won't enjoy that. Lots of luxuries he'll miss on as the England job is quite comfortable compared to other countries. So, imho, more likely an exec job at the FA, premier league or something like that. Shame...I would have loved the world to actually see him as he truly is with Man u or even Newcastle, lol.
July 12, 20242 yr Seems to be a lot of fuss about England's pen being given. Just a modern day penalty for me. The defender is a fraction late with his block, his raise studs hit Kane in a painful spot. In this day and age is a stonewall pen. Can be unhappy for where the game has gone, a long way from our 70s cup win over Leeds, but is what it is. That's today's game, it's a clear pen.

I wasn’t aware there was that much money sloshing around the football association. Defenders of this might argue that he carries the weight of the country’s hopes on his shoulders, it’s the going rate etc, however that is a staggering sum for a part time job

I know there is a lot of pressure come tournaments, but £5m a year plus all the add-ons. Going to all the PL games, going abroad to watch international opponents, flying first class, put up in top hotels. f**k me, who wouldn't do that for a fraction of that salary.

Now you can debate if the rules are correct, certainly for me it is more should such incidents be deemed penalties rather than is this one a pen, cause by the current lay of the land it is.

And Kane actually kicked the defender ! Both players had their boots raised to the same level Next year we'll have micro chips and motion sensors in the boots , to determine height and angle of the foot, that's the only way forward Edited July 12, 20242 yr by The Rising Sun Info

And Saka touching the ball twice with his hands just before the ball fell to Kane was strangely a non topic afterwards. And the ref being found guilty of match fixing in the past didn't help, Bellingham accused him of corruption 3 years ago after a Bundesliga game !
July 12, 20242 yr I'm well pleased that we've reached another final, and for some unfathomable reason I reckon England will win it.

Dermot Gallagher on Talksport last night, asked if it was a penalty said "no way, both players had their feet raised and Kane kicked Dumfries,it's not a clear and obvious mistake and he shouldn't have been sent to review it, when he went to the screen i thought he wouldn't change he's mind"
July 12, 20242 yr With Potter and Poch leading the betting as next England manager, we'll be looking back at Southgate's reign with nostalgia in a few months!
