My position most of the season up until now has been yes Robert Sanchez is struggling a bit, but dropping him would break his confidence and then Jorgensen (whose not ready) would only come in and do not much better. Then you'd end up having dropping Jorgensen and now you have 2 unhappy unconfident struggling keepers.

That was my view up until January.

But now we can recall Petrovic any time or hell, even Kepa (whose still better than either Sanchez or Jorgensen).

Guess he is in a difficult position. You dont want to completely destroy Sanchez confidence or erode any remaining monetary value he has - but at the same time, he should be coming out and backing Jorgensen now.

In reality, no club with ambition or money will come to take Sanchez of our hands - so the loss of value is moot.... he isnt going anywhere anyway!

f**k confidence, come out in the presser and tell everyone what they know. Sanchez is w**k and isn't suitable for the style of play we want to achieve. They were more than happy doing it to Chilwell, give Sanchez the same treatment. He should never wear a Chelsea shirt again,.

Hasn't stopped him before, not sure why Sanchez deserves special treatment. 

Jorgensen played in LA LIGA in 2023/24 season and made the most saves for Villarreal 143 times, he then extended his contact to 2029, then we signed him

why did we go out and buy Jorgensen if he wasn't going to be number 1

If you play the press conference backwards at double speed, and with the appropriate cipher, you can clearly hear Maresca saying that he actually thinks both keepers are crap and can the sporting directors PLEASE buy him someone better. Good man !

If I’d made one the sort of f**k ups Sanchez has made it’d have been enough to destroy my own confidence! 

Jorgensen's best season in La Liga : 13th on save percentage and 19th on Post Shot Expected Goals - basically he conceded more than you would expect, albeit the stat about "most saves" (143) is true, as is the one about him conceding the most goals (63) LOL

 

Liverpool of course signed the player at the Top of the rankings for Post Save expected Goals, which is the best stats measure of "above average" goalkeeping 

Interesting that Kepa was 3rd and 6th in these metrics, and has continued the good form at Bournemouth. Have thought for a while that Ben Roberts has absolutely no feel for what constitutes quality goalkeeping ... 

 

I hope Maresca drops Sanchez, and I wish Jorgensen all the best, but I'm not expecting much. "Better than Sanchez" is a low bar after all ...

The player that Liverpool signed has also made the most errors leading to goals for them this season!

I love stats but i try to take GK ones with a huge pinch of salt. So many different factors that i struggle to see how you can apply maths to it accurately.

how good was the defence?

Might be an issue caused by English not being his first language (and it feels like this is the point Maresca was trying to make) but it's quite an easy question to answer: "We have two fantastic goalkeepers in the first-team squad". 

The headlines/fan reaction will be critical either way (either 'MARESCA REFUSES TO RULE OUT DROPPING SANCHEZ' or 'MARESCA INSISTS ON PERSERVERING WITH THAT IDIOT SANCHEZ') so he may as well smile warmly on his players. That answer would also allow Maresca to appear genial and cryptic which I know for a fact he would enjoy. 

I would probably also advise against the addendum "oh plus that bloke from Fulham who was here when I started".

Sanchez is destroying our whole team’s confidence.

If we don’t play him then people will forget how bad he actually is - the less we play the more we can sell him for.

Dropping Sanchez is literally a win for everyone associated with Chelsea except one clumsy man.

These stats describe what happens AFTER the defence has been breached ... i.e. what percentage of shots does the GK save from shots against them, and how many do they keep out in comparison to the expected goals. So in theory the quality of the defence doesn't affect this data. They do assess the quality of the shot as well (PSxG/SoT column - higher number = harder to save and more likely to be a goal).

Kepa is a case of absence making the heart grow fonder. He may be in whatever percentile of shot stoppers, and xg's saved or whatever nonsense metric we have to measure. But he gets beat too easily, is too small, and guess what - the stats dont matter - he isnt good enough.

Mendy is the best goalkeeper we have had since Courtois by a country mile. 

The rest have all been varying degrees of dreadful.

There is lots of talk in general on here about stats - on multiple threads. We need to remember the eye test 😄

At the end of the day it all depends on which players a particular poster likes, or doesn't like, and which pair of glasses are being worn. Eye tests and statistics can be adjusted at will to suit the desired result !
