Renato Veiga

Phenomenal business on our end. Bought him last year for 14m, loaned him out for 4m and selling him for 40m all within a year. 30m profit is unbelievable!

Quick poll:

Would you rather have Renato Veiga or Benoît Badiashile as the backup left centre back to Colwill next season?

(I'm not sure there is even space for one of them if Geuhi rumours are true, but surely not both)

veiga over baddy all day

Problem is Veiga had no intentions to stay. I want a player that wants to stay so it is pretty simple choice from the two.

Badiashile is our type defender. His problem is he's never been able to hold onto his place. I think he just needs a good long stretch of games. He has an eye for the line piercing pass which is crucial to our football but he's been suspect at defensive actions.

That 40m is in Euros and includes add-ons, so we won't bank nearly as much as that.

It could be a good sale if we get around £20m profit, as it would cancel any loss we have to cop on Felix and that is extra important thanks to our UEFA penalty.

I agree, keeping him here as back up, against his will, for another 12 months will probably only diminish his sale price

Always been a fan of his so it's a shame to see him go as he has developed immensely in such a short period of time, looks extremely comfortable for Portugal at CB, but ultimately seems he wanted to leave so best to let him go.

And we've got another twelve in the back of the lock up, young Terry

Despite agreeing terms with Veiga Atletico have pulled out of the move. They have agreed a deal with feyenoord for defender David Hencko at 30mill euros, which is around the same best offer they made to us for Veiga, with us seeking a total package of 40mill euros. Hencko, like Veiga, is mainly a CB who can play left back.

Things like this is why I take the media announcing that "we expect to make 200mill plus in sales" and "Nkunku, Sterling, Felix and Veiga are all certain to leave" with a large pinch of salt.

With clubs aware of Uefa charging us with FFP breaches, and the FA still investigating us on PSR, they will be even cheaper with us.

Chelsea accused of having 'rigid approach' in transfer ne...

Chelsea have been accused of having a 'rigid approach' in transfer negotiations as one deal breaks down this week.

30M would have been a no brainer for a years flip and funds the Hato deal. I assumed these high values we keep publicly placing on players was just to drive up the value and we'd end up accepting less, looks like the clowns genuinely believe they're worth that. I'll wait patiently for the 100M Jackson bid...

Other clubs on the continent seem to be fine to choose a high valuation and stick to it. Look at the eye watering fee Liverpool just paid to Frankfurt. Look what we forked out for Fernandez. Look what we had to pay for Lukaku. There are countless examples.

The issue is that European clubs always try and rinse English clubs for top dollar when selling, whilst paying bargain basement fees when buying. I for one will be happy if clearlake play hardball and demand top dollar. We should not be pushovers.

In an alternative universe where we've accepted £30m your message would be "these clowns put a stupid valuation on a player and got schooled again"

We could play hardball if these were prized players and we weren't under pressure to sell.

Enzo we can play hardball with, because he plays every week and is our vice captain.

Veiga we can't afford to as he's a fringe player. Everyone knows we've replaced Jackson so won't offer top dollar.

Why would anyone moan about doubling their money in a year? You're getting upset about made up scenarios again.

I'm sure you'd find a way when it comes to our directors.

The sentiment is fine. However the application is flawed when we take into account that European clubs are either generally broke or are purely there to sell players only. Dortmund are a fine example. Have had tens and tens of millions. Never bought a player, unless bargain basement Europe to Europe. Everything is on a loan with an option that will never be exercised

Veiga situation is pretty straight forward. Maresca assessed and tried to play him. He didn't look good. He didn't play. He wanted to leave. Simple, done.

Some said Maresca should play him more? The more Maresca tried to play player that is not good the more you will say that Maresca problem is tactic and coaching.

The issue is actually that European clubs don't have any money to spend by virtue of the fact that only England has both a prosperous and equitable TV deal. It creates a reality where other clubs don't need to buy nearly as much as we need to sell - supply and demand, etc.

The only way we can get decent fees is to sell to Saudi, rivals in England (Newcastle, Arsenal), PSG, Bayern Munich or Real Madrid. That's the sum total of our options if we want to make a profit on these players and the biggest risk of both Emenalo's 'loan army' strategy and the similar Clearlake model.

This.

If you want "big" transfer money you have to sell them to top 8 in pl and to those team that you mentioned.

You can play hardball all you want, if the interest doesn't come from this few teams you won't get the money that you want.

Just looked at the 25/26 Transfers so far:

https://www.transfermarkt.com/statistik/saisontransfers#google_vignette

Have to scroll down to #17 to find a club not on that list paying over 40m, Baena to Atletico Madrid. Next best is Leverkusen who have spent 70m on two players but are obviously flush with income this window lol

Or he could just play him at CB when he Colwill needed a rest...

Ahead of Badiashile and probably Hato?

We have too many players 😂
