Something weird has happened in football. Not too long ago, the thought of Liverpool winning the Premier League, and Arsenal and Tottenham winning European cups would be the worst possible outcome. This is pretty much the worst way a season can end for a Chelsea fan, but if we compare the current situation to Liverpool in 2014 when Gerrard slipped (can't believe it was that long ago) I don't feel the same way at all. It's like there is something missing in football now. I still don't want Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham winning, but I feel like if it happened now compared to 10 years ago, I wouldn't feel the same way. It would suck, but I wouldn't feel so devastated about it for some reason.

There's something about football at this moment that feels diluted compared to not so long ago.

Totally agree Scott - Exactly how I feel.

Could be a combination of factors. Think for me, one is age. Don't know hold old you are but I'm 61 now and so football (and Chelsea) isn't the be all and end all it once was. Don't get me wrong, still ruins my weekend when we lose, but I have loads of other stuff to take my mind of CFC, particularly my little grandson. When he smiles and giggles, I forget about how sh*t we are and the fact that Liverpool are going to win the league.

The other big factor is the current state of our club. The owners, Maresca and even a lot of the players. Because so many of us feel detached and don't love CFC as much as we once did, I guess because there isn't that same feeling of passion and connection, equally we don't feel as bad when Liverpool, or Arsenal or God forbid, even Spurs, win something. As you say, would still rather they didn't win anything, but nowhere near as gutted if they do.

The complete saturation of football everywhere could also be a factor. Will always love football and still play Saturday mornings which I enjoy as much as I've ever done, but there is too much on TV. Agree with the old adage, less is more.

VAR in the PL was the start for me. Too many times did we score goals only for them to go back 5 minutes to find Malouda did not pass to Torres and disallow it.

Then the death nail was who our ownership are.

How is Levy putting up with Ange? Tottenham are 16th, they play Liverpool next week, and the odds are they will end the day in 17th, they will struggle to pick up more then 4 points looking at their remaining games, they will sack him 100% even if they win the Europa league, rumours they want the Bournemouth or Fulham manager, so if we want one of those managers we better move quick

I did write out a bit list of things explaining why I think things are so passionless at the moment but it it's just a death of a thousand cuts. The fear stopping banter, VAR, owners no longer being random rich people but heads of big multinationals, the cost, fewer superstar players (especially at mid table clubs), tourist sections in stadia. All these little things removing passion.

Not too long ago a Liverpool title was something you'd dread given the fans and the media but it all seems extremely muted. The most fun there's been this season has been seeing teams do badly, not teams doing well. Maybe 75% of pundits coming from sides having long term frustrating form is adding to this.

You're both on to something I think.

I think another thing we can add to the list is the political climate and how sh*tty everything has felt since covid. It really has been a sh*tty decade so far.

Feel exactly the same and I’m ‘only’ 30.

I think the edge has gone out the game, there’s no real passion or hatred anymore.

Everyone is from the Pep coaching tree and it’s all just one big love fest.

There’s no Jose v SAF v Wenger v FSW.

VAR is slightly to blame as well as it’s taken the edge out of every game, you can’t claim you were ‘robbed’ anymore and feel hard done to all week.

As the revenue has increased the quality of the product has decreased IMO. This season for example, as far as I can see is the worst the PL has ever been in its whole existence, it’s boring.

Liverpool winning the league don’t bother me so much, especially after winning it a couple of years ago.

Arsenal though… If they win the league that would ruin my year. Champions league too.
