Far be it from me to defend Maresca but he takes no blame for what's happened today, we actually played well and would have sailed through in normal time if it wasn't for the weather.

The subs were sh*t. He doesn't make subs for tactical reasons, he follows all of the data on his tablet. I hate coaches like this, they think the game can be managed on data. They always get found out eventually.

Jackson would have missed that as well...... 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

We were desperately hanging on before the game was stopped?

Hmmm, his subs were sh*t, we were told Santos was understudy for Enzo, so why not play him

He's going with what he knows from last season, which was basically what he said he would do before it started. I want to see Santos playing more as much as the next guy, but he's at that point he wanted to go with players he trusted. I imagine KDH won't be here next season but because it's being treated as an extension of the season as opposed to a new one, Nkunku still playing shows that.

Is this sarcasm? If it isn't then we were watching a different game.

The only thing that I wouldn't blame Gusto for from his performance is the actual penalty. If you are back pedalling and jump as high as you can in the air, with someone approaching behind you, you will always splay your arms for balance when landing. Complete cheating bullsh*t penalty. That said, Gusto should never be near our first team.

I think Palmer is out (suspended) for the next round

I agree we most likely would have won without the weather debacle and had done enough. But we should have been out of sight after 85 minutes.

And he failed to prep them for the restart. Benfica came out and shocked us. You could argue the lad getting himself sent off might have saved us.

I just do not rate the guy at all.

Teams are targeting him, as soon as he came on, they played a diagonal ball high towards him, he was outjumped at the back post for the penalty, he was at fault for two of the goals in the 3-1 defeat and was crap in the conference league final, JOSH should play in front of him

I'm gonna give him a rare pass still, he made the subs and then 6 minutes later there's a 2 hour break.

Neither do I, I just can't give him any stick for what happened tonight 🤷‍♂️

Don't think so. The coverage was pretty sharp indicating who'd be missing the second round, and that's Caicedo. Palmer should be available.

Chilwell, Stirling, Disasi, Nkunku, now Gusto, arguably Badiashile too........Maresca has a habit of freezing out players or making them play roles that don't suit them. Then we wonder why limited but productive contributing players are no longer productive or contributing......

Yeah, that penalty decision was scandalous, borderline corruption IMO so you can't blame him for that but.......he's rubbish.

We've got better back up midfielders and I think Josh Acheampong is already better defender than him.

There's an old saying that the team is only as good as the weakest link.

Using that logic then if Gusto plays for us then being a cup team is the very best we could ever hope for while he's selected.

My mistake then. That's a relief.

When Palmer flung his leg out at that ball to delay the throw in I was so glad he didn't touch it, else he would have been second yellow carded and would have missed multiple rounds.

All i have to say is respect to the true Chelsea fans who stayed up to watch for the whole 4 hours plus of Football .

You are the real MVPs

Nope, I think the term is now ‘Superior supporters of the game’

I must admit, it’s a bit twisted, but enjoyed it, with the help of Staropramen.
