18 hours ago18 hr Regardless of today's result the last few days show that FIFA as an institution is on borrowed time.First, the ESL decision in the EU established that transnational orgnaisations like FIFA are not competent to be regulators of sport and competition organisers and commercial entities in manner that doesn't restrict trade or freedom of movement. A little-known case called RFC Seraring further confirmed that FIFA only governs by consent, not by authority. When the EU ruled FIFA's transfer system invalid, UEFA and its players' unions went their own way to negotiate a new frameworkWhen FIFA needed sponsors for its latest CWC madness, only the sportswashing Gulf countries were interested. FIFA spent two decades courting Asia and China specifically, with no success. Now, the Gulf money has dried up, and geopolitics means they are no longer interested in relations with FIFA's new toy in the USA.10 minutes ago, Scott Harris said:🤣He's not wrong though - that's the problem!

17 hours ago17 hr USA bluffed their way through a very easy group and are now looking totally inadequate against a medium quality Belgium team. De Byrne and Lukaku are itching to get on and help themselves to some goals.Oh another yellow another phone call - on the suspension hotline. Edited 17 hours ago17 hr by OTL
17 hours ago17 hr New territory for Lukaku, entering the pitch as only the second or third-most hated player on the pitchStill time for him to f**k it up and declare after the match he only ever loved America anyway
16 hours ago16 hr The game and the days before reminded me just how classless and inept Pochettino was.Complete failure to prepare his team for the big occasion, yet again. Mealy-mouthed statements engaging on issues that had nothing to do with him.
16 hours ago16 hr Credit to Belgium. They were determined, disciplined, and in control throughout. They dictated the game and their quality showed.Disappointing night for the US. They couldn't quite recreate the moments that carried them this far, but there's plenty to learn from and build on. Hopefully this run inspires more young athletes to pursue football at the highest level alongside the country's traditional sports.Proud of this team for the belief, energy, and excitement they generated throughout this World Cup. Loved how engaged everyone across the US has been, and the growing appreciation for the beautiful game. Country Roads!
16 hours ago16 hr USA and Trump pumped 4-1. Justice is served.Trump should have told Infantino that they should have been allowed 14 players on the pitch. Might have only been 3-1 then.
16 hours ago16 hr The USA were dreadful they went out with a whimper. Comedy defending. Zero creativity and lack lustre from the start. That was like a training session for the Belgians they should be fresh for the next round of games.

Warned my colleagues about the defense; it wasn't a problem due to the weakness of the opposition, but Belgium could, by adjusting a couple of things, finally test them.Their two CBs are dreadful and this feels samey about the US team: there is always a glaring weakness in the team. Loved how engaged everyone across the US has been, and the growing appreciation for the beautiful game. Country Roads!I applaud your optimism but I think there is a long and very disappointing road ahead for US football. This was meant to be the US's golden generation and the best it could muster on home soil was a R-16. The reality of this team is that it is largely unlikeable and unrelatable, having very few links to domestic football. Its stars are always injured (Pulisic and Adams) and the rest of the list reads as a who's who of failures to launch as well as organisational nepo-babies like Berhalter and Reyna taking opportunities away from domestic players. And despite this, can it even be said that this team is in the same class as the 00s era that saw players like Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard, Brad Friedel, and Carlos Bocanegra actually become Premier League household names?I would be reluctant to see the men's team 24-hour adoption as the MAGA movement's new nationalist cause du jour as evidence of lasting engagement. See, for example, the public's treatment of the US women's team.Unless the World Cup results in some real investment into the MLS, this is just a temporary blip.

It's been a recurring issue for a while now: there's always a glaring weakness somewhere in the squad, which, to be fair, is fairly typical for a country of Portugal's size. Now, he should've had the courage to manage CR7 like any other player. At 41, he shouldn't be playing 90 minutes against the stronger teams.
13 hours ago13 hr BTW, watching Gordon play against Mexico, I totally see the Mount type there. Not the most naturally gifted or skillful player, but the kind of profile that managers seem to value highly. When coaches with different styles in the PL — and now at Barça — keep finding a role for players like that, there is probably something there beyond the obvious.

What are the glaring weaknesses in this squad apart from a proven incompetent manager, unable to marshal the resources, and cowed by the narcissist Ronaldo?
