Portugal arguably produces more quality players per head of population than any other country. What are the glaring weaknesses in this squad apart from a proven incompetent manager, unable to marshal the resources, and cowed by the narcissist Ronaldo?

There are no weaknesses in the squad. It's stacked. But when you have a midfield that is as good as they are and look lost when they get the ball, it's on the coaching and setup.

A manager with a brain (and a spine) could have taken them all the way.

It's beyond me how Roberto Martinez kept getting these high profile national team jobs, what's next, Brazil or Germany? Even with the players he had on the bench, should have pushed Spain into the extra time.

You're not the first and won't be the last to ponder this.

Remember what ever we think about Portugal they lost by a single goal to the current Euro champions, Spain.

They played counter attack against Spain which you would expect them to, Spain took a long time to break them down.

Portugal had chances thought with Ronaldo and Felix in the front three perhaps they lacked good finishers.

Spain were - and have been - below their best. Lacking fluency and rhythm. With a competent manager calling the shots, Portugal would have beaten them.

Winner of the France Morocco game probably wins the tournament. Unless England get Reece James fit. France and Morroco have been seriously enjoyable to watch.

Im hoping this is the last time we see Ronaldo and Messi, theyve already been replaced by the GOAT Mbappe. the guy is cut differently from those two at international level and he could have two more WC in him.

Ive actually really enjoyed Norway's adventure too. Can see Haarland scroing a hat trick against us and love to hate him, he's unbelievable honeymonster stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7TZka3k9Drw

Ah yes, Mbappe with his 7 goals in 5 games has replaced Messi with his 7 goals in 4 games. Interesting, please tell me more.

Ah yes, Mbappe with his whopping zero balon d'Ors at the age of 27 when Messi and Ronaldo at that age had 4 & 1 respectfully in a much more difficult era.

True, and yet that does leave them short. Uruguay can be impressive at times given their size too.

The attack. Narcissist and very old now Ronaldo shouldn’t be playing at all and they lack a skillful attacking option.

I like Neto for what he is, but he’s not the creative player they would need to unlock defenses. Leao is a very poor player IMO—not a fan at all.

I remember when Spain were dominating with that Biscuits, Xavi and Iniesta midfield, they basically just played exactly the same style as Barcelona. If Martinez was a good coach, he would have had Portugal playing like PSG, because Neves and Vitinha look amazing for PSG. Neto, Leao and Felix would suit playing like PSG do too.

World Cup 2026: 'A sense of injustice' - Belgium say Trum...

Belgium's Nicolas Raskin says Fifa's decision to allow US striker Folarin Balogun to play against them fired them up for the last-16 tie in Seattle.

The mysteries are (1) why he was hired in the first place after his failure with Belgium’s great squad; and (2) how he survived for so long.
