Im sure Keane has it in him to be a top manager but if i was a Chairman i would be wary he seems to have walked at the first signs of unrest.

And, to be fair he did spend more money than Real Madrid did this Summer.

I thought he'd be a good manager and I think he was.

He's prone to depression and bouts of self-criticism which took their toll I think. Pity as I placed a bet 3 years ago at 40-1 on him to be next Manure manager which I thought was looking good value, even as recently as 4 weeks ago. That won't happen now.

Another contributory factor was the beard.

The reports I heard is that he walked and that Sunderland wanted him to stay.

The impression I get (and it is pure guesswork) is that Keane could never come to terms with dealing with players who simply weren't able to demand as much of themselves as Keane himself did.

Whatever anybody thinks of Keane (and Liam knows I don't speak highly of him as a human being!) anyone that denies both his ability and the degree to which he demands nothing but his own best from himself is being a little biased! Keane is a perfectionist (not so much in terms of his temper) on the field and I suspect that his managerial style to players who didn't give him what he would ask of himself was to turn his back on them.

When he was manager at Sunderland and brought them up that was OK as it was a team that was being successful and thus it was easier to motivate players but now that they are struggling I think he has found it hard to manage what he considers to be mediocrity.

I think he could be a successful manager at a bigger club but having said that he did spend a lot of money on average players at Sunderland.

p.s. He is a drunk that eats raw flesh

Keane went up in my opinion when he went into management, he impressed me in his aftermatch interviews and he gave credit to teams that beat them without making too many excuses.

That said his Transfer dealing wasn't the best, Can't see him struggling for work though, maybe bringing teams up from the lower divisions is his Forte.

Apparently Sunderland were the sixth highest-spending team in world football in the last 24 months after Man City, Inter, Villa, Fiorentina & Zenit St Petersburg.

As an individual he's bizzare and a very deep man but as a player he was outstanding . One of his problems is his skill to communicate with players , and i get the impression a lot of the squad were terrified of him , unlike Clough who could be a c**t one miniute , and your best friend the next.

I hated him as a player... I think he had a huge opinion of himself, he was a thug, thought he was better than anyone else.. just a horrible bit of work, when in fact his form was up and down, and was either suspended or injured for long periods (Sounds a bit like Drogba )

I like him as a manager.. At least his public image, he talked a lot of sense. As said I get the impression he is a deep thinker and takes things very much to heart, as a player this spilled over into thuggery which he did not have the self control to deal with.

He wont stay away from the game he will be back somehwere soon.

IN my eyes, he's a thug, a nut-job and now, apparently, a bottle-job as well.

Whatever his reasons, he seems to be developing a tendency to walk away from football when times get tough. To spend the money he spent this summer, and then quit even when the board didn't want him to is a bit pathetic to be honest, and leaves the club in a very tricky position indeed.

Some of my best friends are bottle-jobs...

Anyway, I loathed him as a player, but as a manager he redeemed himself somewhat. As Andy said, he talked a lot of sense. We don't know exactly what happened, but to accuse him of walking away when times get tough.... it seems a bit early for that. I'm curious where in football he will next re-emerge (if at all).

Keane in my opinion has been the best player in the Prems history. Ronaldo will over take him if he remains

and maintains his form for another 5/6 seasons. f**k I'm sounding like a Manc.

Much as I hated the dirty bar steward I'd love to have a 20 year old RK breaking into our squad at the moment.

I don't think he'll cone back into football. He seems slightly odd and a bit of a loaner and I can't imagine

him coping too well with players less talented and hard working as himself.

agreed. I don't think losing so many games in a row was possible for him- i don't think he changed the tactics much because he wanted more from the players..

Have to agree , i think a lot here dont like him because of his links to Manyooo and his disgusting tactics while a player but i'd love a Roy Keane at Chelsea, full of drive, ambition, winning attitude, never say die and great ability. If Keane was a Chelsea player i doubt the reaction would be the same.

youve got to be kidding. maybe as a player he had those attributes, but so far outside of playing hes proven himself to be a petulant, over indulged bottler. kicked up a fuss with the national team, then walked out. kicked up a fuss at utd, then walked out. kicked up a fuss at sunderland, then walked out. see a pattern so far?

And had good enough reason to kick up a fuss with the national team even though he didnt walk out , he was sent home.

Hmmm, sorry but as much as I love having 'hard' players who can put it about a bit when needed, I draw the line at the sort of filth that Keane was known for during his playing career. I would be ashamed if we had a player like that, however good he was.

The guy is a psycho, and one or two good seasons with Sunderland and some sensible press comments doesn't suddenly make him a 'top bloke' in my eyes.
