Formations
That's what I meant, he tried too much too soon. With the players we had at the time it was always going to be extremely hard. The concept of pass and move couldn't be any simpler so I'm not sure what you mean. No one was expecting anything like a Barca revolution, if anything he wanted us to play like Porto did and that was an achievable goal.

Formations
AVB had the right formation/ideas and I think that's the direction we should be heading towards. Poorly implemented but correct nonetheless.

Chelsea v Juventus (CL) 19/09/12 KO 19:45 BST
I think you're thinking of a 343. If our fullbacks marked their wingbacks and left wingers higher up then the midfield would just get overrun, not to mention Giovinco also dropping deep/moving out wide to drop up on our fullbacks.

Would like to see us to back to the 433 and I hope the QPR game was the beginning of that.

Chelsea v Juventus (CL) 19/09/12 KO 19:45 BST
2nd best midfield in the world v our guys. I don't like our chances. Expecting a loss if RDM picks the same team as usual, I just hope we have a real go. Edit: Forgot to do my team. There's no point trying to sit back and defend v Juventus, they will score regardless and it actually plays into their hands. I would line up like this if it were me; Ramires - Mikel Oscar - Mata - Hazard Torres Normal back 4, Oscar and Ramires switching when Ramires bombs forward. No point having Ramires on the wing if they play a 352 (I think they will), however having him in the midfield will force their midfielders and even a centre back out of position. Then Moses and Sturridge on for the last 30 mins. I do think this is a match Romeu would do well in but who knows what state he's in now after not playing for so long. Such a shame.

MOTM vs QPR
Probably Mikel, liked Sturridge when he came on.

QPR vs Chelsea (PL) 15/09/12 KO 15:00 BST
That's a silly stereotype, he's good with the ball with or without space. What was Granero then? A 7ft tank who played passes within a blink of an eye? And he was clearly fit enough to be in the team. He's 20, not 30.

Pathetic. Didn't deserve anything with that lineup. I thought for sure RDM would play Oscar as it was almost certain that Granero would play. Tired of seeing the same team week after week without thought to our opposition.

Chelsea: The most promising youth players in the world?
Was talking about U19/18's. Prospects is the word you used, think that would have been more appropriate.

Chelsea: The most promising youth players in the world?
Would argue that the youngsters at Liverpool are better and unlike the ones here, they will be getting tons of chances over the next few months.

Surprised how strong Belgium look
Don't see them being a major threat in the future (2014), better teams with better players in the past have failed to live up to the same hype. They don't have any proper strikers and their defence is pretty slow. Who knows though, in a year there could have developed some good strikers and got more depth at the back. None come to mind right now though. It's teams like Croatia you should worry about, most of their players will be in their prime by the time the tournament kicks off and they have some great defenders and midfielders coming through who will most likely take part as well.

John Obi Mikel Appreciation Thread
You can't be serious? I'm not saying he's better than Carrick, just that in their situation (The reasons I posted above) the majority of them (Some won't due to rivalry, petty things etc) would swap him for Mikel because he suits their needs a lot more than Carrick does. Not sure if you are overrating Carrick or underrating Mikel.

Considering that they don't have a DM, Carrick is injury prone and in his 30's...I think everyone of them would take you up on that offer.

Think it was the midfield that let you down in the end. When the two CB's had the ball up the pitch they were nowhere to be seen and when they did come deep to get the ball the movement of the other midfielders was non existent. Think everyone apart from Hodgson knew that Cleverly is nothing more than a decent short passer (Right now, he's still learning), he should never be a CAM and should never be anywhere near the box. It's the same thing with Ramsey. Baines gets forward a lot but does very little, that's another thing that annoys me. Johnson is far more effective, should just let him do an Alves and have Banies sit (If he has to play). When Sturridge and Bertrand came on I thought you looked very good and they linked up well, especially that lovely cross field pass from Sturridge to Bertrand which ripped the defence apart. Wasn't surprised to see Welbeck miss that change Sturridge set up, believe it or not he's missed worse for United.- Chelsea Internationals: 2012-13
I like Sturridge when he plays on the left, he's looking very good for England.- QPR vs Chelsea (PL) 15/09/12 KO 15:00 BST
Whereas Granero is clearly a physical brute. Don't be silly, he would be perfectly fine and should start.- Scholes or Lampard
Has to be Scholes really, even in their primes Scholes was the better player. Lampard had more influence, grabs vital goals, etc but as a player he didn't quite have the same quality of passing, etc as Scholes. Not saying there was a mass gulf between the two but enough to give Scholes the edge.- 3 Horse Race
AVB and Rodgers won't get fired. AVB has the backing from the board and unless something drastic happens I can't see that changing. As for Rodgers, he was only brought in just so he can be ordered around by the higher ups. They wanted a young manager to be their puppet, someone who wouldn't stand up to them and they got that. Right now the Liverpool owners are only interested in making profit, they could finish 10th and they still wouldn't sack Rodgers. I can't really see anyone getting sacked to be honest, half the teams got new managers so I can't see them getting sacked after just one season and the other half of the teams have managers who have been there a while/won promotion. That said I do think Paul Lambert will have a hard time, only person I can think of who may get sacked.- 300 Best Players in the World
Dear god I just saw Malouda on that list.- Are we going to regret not signing a decent backup keeper?
Arsenal have 3 good keepers, strangely all 3 of them excel at different things. But yeah, agreed with the rest.- Romeu interested in Barca reuinion.
Must have watched different Romeu's then because from what I saw he offered everything we lacked in defensive mid. He's strong, good in the air, much better tackler than Mikel but I think that's mainly down to his positioning is superb and then of course much better offensively. I won't be pleased with RDM if we end up losing this guy. I get that he probably doesn't think he would perform the same in a 4231 but still, to not play him at all is just ridiculous.- Romeu interested in Barca reuinion.
Would be fuming if we let him go, even for £15m. He's too good to sell.- Fellaini
Has a £26m buy out clause, apparently. - England 1-1 Ukraine
