Zouma I think will be in the future, but right now I wouldn't want to burden him with the extra responsibility, plus I don't think seasoned pro's will want to be bossed around by a relative newcomer. I would probably go for Fabregas to fully expunge the remnants of Arsenal from him, he plays in a central role and speaks better English than Azpilicueta as well as Spanish. Also if we assume he has another 4 or so seasons at the top level, Zouma at 24/25 will hopefully then be ready to take the armband long-term and also gives time for any other potential candidates time to stake a claim.

Before we all climb up City's arse, it should be pointed out that we won our our titles against the Invincibles and a rampant United with the best manager of all time leading them. They won theirs at the tail-end of Ferguson's career with the last kick of the season, with Arsenal and Liverpool fading and with our never-ending change of managers. They've had some fantastic players in Aguero, Toure, Silva, Company and others, but even at their peak they still haven't truly dominated. Even with this year being the most ridiculous of years their lead is minute, so lets not rewrite history from a light blue perspective...keep it dark blue.

The reason Benitez is so hated is because during our rivalry with Liverpool throughout 2003-2010 when we kept getting drawn together in the Champions League he made derogatory statements towards the club and once Chelsea manager he never apologised for them. I don't understand this excessive sentimentality towards Ivanovic and last summer towards Cech when it was apparent he was looking for a move to Arsenal from the same club that let Lampard and Cole leave in such an understated way and every year plays the 'will he/won't he' with Terry. Much as we need leadership, I believe there's every chance it will breed resentment if talented youngsters see him holding down a spot despite clearly being past it. I was going to write more but then remembered that the lack of youth game time and lack of vision is already being discussed in other threads.

Agreed that he did mess up, but Ivanovic being behind him should either see his error and go for the ball or scream at Zouma to go for it himself. I think we'd all expect more from a 30+year old vice captain than a promising but raw 21 year old whose only really had 1 full season of top quality experience as well.

Aside from the obvious source of income, I don't understand this obsession they have with fines, be it for Chelsea or any other team. If there was a mass brawl or Costa had whipped out a machete then perhaps further punishment might be necessary. With so many ex-pros (I assume) within the organisation surely they know what its like to feel aggrieved in a close run game?
