June 26, 201511 yr Oh No, I was so looking forward to it. Haven't seen anything really good since 'Let the right one in'. (Horror wise.)

June 28, 201511 yr American Sniper, staring Bradley Cooper and directed by Clint Eastwood. Adaptation of the book which is the true story of SEAL sniper Chris Kyle's career, he had a over 260 confirmed kills during his time with the military. Pretty brutal and a reminder of just how f**ked up war is. 8/10
June 28, 201511 yr Have watched the film loads of times as well. A great film. Was at the Biggin Hill Air Show about ten days ago and a number of Spitfires and Hurricanes flew over. Very poignant as it is the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain this year and Biggin Hill was one of the key airfields in that conflict. They were all 'key' in my eyes, Biggin just saw a sh*tload of action compared to most. A couple of nice BOB shots. American Sniper, staring Bradley Cooper and directed by Clint Eastwood. Adaptation of the book which is the true story of SEAL sniper Chris Kyle's career, he had a over 260 confirmed kills during his time with the military. Pretty brutal and a reminder of just how f**ked up war is. 8/10 For me the first good war film since Black Hawk Down. I'm not sure if the film based on Operation Red Wings is any good, can anyone who has seen it give me a brief rundown? CK Was a hero, a modern-day Simo Hayha. Such an unfortunate demise, to put it mildly. Edited June 28, 201511 yr by Charles Ryder
June 29, 201511 yr A Million Ways to Die in the West, love Family a Guy and American Dad so was always gonna humour me. Was pretty enjoyable but a little long 7.5/10
June 29, 201511 yr Poltergeist remake - Thought it was pretty bad, the original was several levels above this. Creep - Was ok but found it a little bit predictable.
June 29, 201511 yr Inherent Vice: Absolute rubbish. It doesn't make sense. There is no plot. Complete waste of anyone's time, the worst film I have seen in years. The only good thing I can say about it is that there are a couple of funny slapstick bits and Joaquin Phoenix is quite good. Avoid. 2/10. Entourage movie: Brilliant. Everything I wanted from it and more, a fitting end to a hilarious tv series. Jeremy Piven is the don. Ending was a bit "convenient" but that doesn't matter. 9/10
June 29, 201511 yr Whiplash, about a young drummer's dedication to be the best, with a crazy teacher. Quite different, thought the ending could have been a wee bit better, but still decent 7/10
June 29, 201511 yr Insidious 3 would rate it 6/10. Was marginally better than the second with more substance to the storyline and generally more scary at times. But still doesn't compare to the first instalment in the series.

June 29, 201511 yr I still haven't seen this but 2 was so bad it's kind of put me off watching anymore The second one was just not scary. Something about a woman in a veil with a high pitched scream just not being terrifying in the slightest.
June 30, 201511 yr I thought 2 was far better than 3. 3 for me was a train wreck Would you agree that the first one is on a whole other level to its sequels.
June 30, 201511 yr I quite enjoyed the series of films about the Annabelle doll. The Conjuring and Annabelle are very enjoyable if you're in to your horror films. I would recommend Shutter Island though in general. Great film with an amazing twist or two.
June 30, 201511 yr I don't even think the first Insidious is all that it's an ok movie with a poor last 30 minutes. The whole thing basically ripped off Poltergeist anyway but showed us what was inside. I think of all these movies recently like that the Conjuring was the best but even that doesn't have rewatch value IMO. Also though Annabelle was poor but the opening with the Manson type cultists was scary as hell. Shame the rest of the film didn't live up to it, guess that's what happens when you do a rushed prequel.
June 30, 201511 yr Would you agree that the first one is on a whole other level to its sequels.Of course.I'd say Insidious was the best horror film of the past 20 odd years easily, as soon as I left the cinema after it I was really spooked and that hardly ever happens. James Waan is a genius (The Conjuring I also loved) it was a huge shame he wasn't brought on board for number 3 but then I think he knew the first 2 were where it should have been left. Wow that is a surprise so I didn't find Insidious scary in the slightest but I guess horror effects us all in different ways. Funnily enough James Wan isn't a massive fan of horror he's only done it to get ahead in the business. Now look at him he did the right thing going down that path lol
June 30, 201511 yr I don't watch any horror films at all, i never even consider them anymore when looking for a movie, I find nearly all of them to be rather sh*te.

Now look at him he did the right thing going down that path lol I don't find gore or over the top scares all the frightening, I'm more into the it's what you can't see that get's you. I think he obviously has the same kind of relationship with horror as I do and that's why I find his work so intriguing and enjoyable. Mind you I was one of the only ones I know who found the Blair Witch a good scare film.

I envy you tbh wish I could get scared like that.

Such an unfortunate demise, to put it mildly. Charles, very true about all the airfields being key. The airfields, planes and crews in 11 Group especially took a "pounding". There was a very good article about Keith Park, head of 11 Group in a recent edition of one of the Military History magazines. He did such a great job as did his boss, Hugh Dowding. Sadly, after the Battle of Britain they were stitched-up and moved on due to the jealousy of others.

Now look at him he did the right thing going down that path lol The cheap jump scares and goriness don't get to me either but like what you said it's all in what you don't see. The scariest films are by far the films that go down the spiritual route rather than a mad man with a chainsaw.
July 1, 201511 yr American Sniper, staring Bradley Cooper and directed by Clint Eastwood. Adaptation of the book which is the true story of SEAL sniper Chris Kyle's career, he had a over 260 confirmed kills during his time with the military. Pretty brutal and a reminder of just how f**ked up war is. 8/10 I thought it was an impressive but not a five star movie as some critics claimed when I saw it back in February. It's important to note that despite the pro-American sentiment the movie is based from the perspective of Chris Kyle after all so of course the film was going to be angled. In terms of demonstrating the brutality of war Eastwood captures it extremely well rather than glorifying it as some other war movies do. Edited July 1, 201511 yr by Jezz
July 1, 201511 yr Working my way through some Netflix films just now and my next one was Haunting in Connecticut 2 I knew this wouldn't be a classic but it was a surprise just how bad this film was! I automatically thought this would be a continuation of the first film but was nothing to do with that one or what it was about. 3/10 for me.
