Austin Powers – International Man of Mystery.

Don’t think it needs a sum up as it’s a cult classic of the 90’s and most of us will have seen it at some point.

One of those films you can crack open a beer and have a right laugh from start to finish, ideal after a long day in the office.

8/10

Those of you with youngsters, the young at heart and the not so young. We've just taken the great nephew to see Inside Out. Be interested to know what others think. Is it really for children, is it meant to cross generations? It is very sad in part, but it is also very, very clever.

Inglorious bar stewards, not as good as I'd hoped!

Maybe due to the large amount of subtitles, I don't like reading a film.

Maybe 6/10

Really? I can't watch any film without subtitles for fear of missing something that was said.

If I know it's the case beforehand it doesn't bother me, but in the case of Tarentino I was expecting to turn my brain off for some mindless violence!

May I suggest "Shoot 'em up" in which case.

BBC1 showed Castaway last night, the Tom Hanks film

I missed it when it came out. if I remember rightly it was overhyped ...... Which normally puts me off films.

Anyway I caught it about 5 mins in not knowing what film it was and was hooked, before I knew it it was over a sign of a good film (ending a little naff but not sure quite how they could have end it)

Anyway a great film it didn't need the hype

9/10

Watched this on Friday with my girlfriend. Both really enjoyed, agree with you that it is very clever and also quite funny.

Star Wars: A New Hope

Love the original trilogy but I hate that it is nearly impossible to find the original versions of the films to watch nowadays.

All the added stuff by Lucas is sh*t, especially that scene that was added where Han talks to a sh*tty looking CGI Jabba The Hut.

Not forgetting of course Han shot first.

Despite Lucas' best efforts to ruin his own films I still enjoy watching them.

The Mission good film with great soundtrack 8/10

maybe your effort may spur madame moi to watch it - she's been very tardy with the films that have been put on her "to watch list" & summer is no excuse.

separately (and i can't remember whether we've done this before) maybe we should all name our choices for 5 greatest film soundtracks?

I'll get the ball rolling with some of my favourites (there's a lot more but....):

The Mission

Clockwork Orange

Lift to the Scaffold

Heat

Rumblefish

Groveling apologies - I have still to watch Au Hasard, Balthazar.  It is sitting right by my DVD player - promise to watch it this week!

If The Mission is the Robert de Niro, Jeremy Irons one, I have seen that several times - and could easily see it again!

Have you ever seen At Play In the Fields of the Lord?  (or have I asked you that before?????)

1. Lord of the Rings

2. The Magnificent Seven

3. Zulu

4. Lawrence of Arabia

5. The Dambusters

HMs - Doctor Zhivago, The Battle of Britain, The Big Country, North by Northwest, Harry Potter.

Taxi Driver

Irreversible

Into the Wild

Diva

Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me

Those are five that stood out to me. The problem with good soundtracks is you often don't tend to notice them.

Almost my choice. I'll go with Zulu, Lawrence of Arabia, The Dambusters, Battle of Britain and the Sting. A couple of others that were close are 633 Squadron and the Wicker Man.

^ Forgot about The Commitments. A brilliant film with superb songs. Book is worth reading as well.

Roadhouse with Patrick Swayze. Not a great film in my opinion but has the late great Jeff Healey and his band playing. Great songs performed by a great guitarist.

Soundtrack, although unavailable as a unit, to Cafe des Flores is a current favourite.

Edit, and Cinema Paradiso.
