Last Movie You Watched

Directors cut of Leon.

Never seen the extended version before, got to say I think the added scenes make the film worse.

Sometimes extended cuts are great and other times not, Superman the Movie extended is brilliant, vastly improves the film but Dumb and Dumber extended turned a great comedy into a bad one.

Is that because it's a pretentious pile of w**k?

deary me....one of the greatest film treatises on the sheer pointlessness of war. Can but slowly shake my head at such a myopic reaction.

It's just so boring.

It's so obvious when watching it that the film was butchered in editing to be something other than what was originally intended.

Youlots, you will be pleased to learn that I have finally got round to watching Au Hasard Balthazar.  An incredible experience!  I am going to have to watch it again very soon.

Very thought-provoking and very moving - there are so many Balthazars in the world, who accept their fate in resignation, powerless to alter it.

I'm not sure what any of that means but I would like to learn more. What is it about?

It's about the life of a donkey, Balthazar, who lives in a village with some good people, but many small-minded cruel people.  Whatever happens to him, he accepts his destiny resignedly.  You are left with a feeling that people think because they have intelligence, that they can alter their destiny, but in fact we are as helpless to alter our fate as Balthazar was.   There's a lot more than that, but it's all too fresh at the moment for me to relate it.

This makes me think of a story about Elephants in India I heard the other day. Basically it goes that baby elephants are tied with rope to trees at a young age and are too weak to break free even though they may try hundreds of time. By the time they are strong enough they have been taught by the rope that they cannot escape. I'm not sure if that's true but it's very sad if so, also the perfect analogy for human beings. We think we are too weak to do things in life because of past experiences rather than present situations.

Getting pretty philosophical aren't we?

Moi, sorry if I've said this before. Have you seen Entre les murs and Etre et avoir?

No, you haven't, and I haven't. Will look into them. Thank you.

Finished the Guest, infortunatelt it turned rather silly towards the end

I liked it.

Does go as off the rails as Cabin in the Woods but I liked that it was just a bit weird.
