July 1, 201511 yr I thought it was an impressive but not a five star movie as some critics claimed when I saw it back in February. It's important to note that despite the pro-American sentiment the movie is based from the perspective of Chris Kyle after all so of course the film was going to be angled. In terms of demonstrating the brutality of war Eastwood captures it extremely well rather than glorifying it as some other war movies do. My wife didn't like the movie, she found the killing and brutality a bit relentless and found it a bit uncomfortable. I completely understand that but at the same time I think that's the whole point, you're not meant to take any enjoyment from seeing this guy rack up his kill count. The film wasn't supposed to be objective I don't think... We follow Chris Kyle around and learn little to nothing about those he is fighting against but despite that I wasn't really rooting for him.
July 1, 201511 yr At no point in time were the audience supposed to feel satisfied by Chris Kyle's kills even if he was doing it for the sake of 'protecting his country' in my opinion. The film was never designed to be objective so for those who expect a thorough understanding and explanation of the Iraq War can forget about watching this film.
July 1, 201511 yr I went to see Entourage last night. I watched all 8 seasons and loved them, and I enjoyed the film last night. It was disappointing in the sense that it was essentially another season crammed into 2 hours, but it brought back a bit of nostalgia and had plenty of 'easter egg' type things for fans of the show. If you watched the show you'll love it. If you are deeply offended by topless women, like Mark Kermode is, then don't bother. 7/10 for me. Not as good as the show, but a nice reminder of how fun it was to watch. All I want now is a Saul Goodman style spin off, for Ari Gold. Edited July 1, 201511 yr by Adam

I read a lot of military books, and sometimes the films that follow, the last being Lone Survivor. Both book and film were full of embellishments and the inevitable US Chest thumping. Not seen or read American Sniper, but will probably watch the film. Reviews of the book put me off completely. He apparently was a terrible writer, no character building at all, basically just like a 'list'. I would imagine Clint Eastwood has done the best he could
July 3, 201511 yr The Dark Knight Returns, still one of my favourite animated films. Great adaptation of the source material.
July 7, 201511 yr Just watched Lone Survivor, I'd give it 7/10 purely as an action film. It wasn't the Holywood 'war porn' that I was expecting, which was refreshing.
July 7, 201511 yr Went to see the new Terminator movie last night. I should have known better. That bad?
July 7, 201511 yr That bad? Actually the first 45 minutes or so is ok and we were quite enjoying it, but when they jump to 2017 it all goes to sh*t.
July 7, 201511 yr Actually the first 45 minutes or so is ok and we were quite enjoying it, but when they jump to 2017 it all goes to sh*t. That's a shame, they just can't seem to get Terminator right since T2
July 7, 201511 yr Actually the first 45 minutes or so is ok and we were quite enjoying it, but when they jump to 2017 it all goes to sh*t. I loved the 3D, weapons and some of the 're-done' bits, but as you say, it got silly. Arnie being in it was good (I liked T3, but not Salvation), but it won't be re-watched here. Quite a huge miscast with Kyle. They seemed to spend half the film trying to explain the ridiculous plot.

It seemed like they were constantly throwing curve balls at you just to distract you from how nonsensical it was. I agree about Kyle, he's far too young and fresh faced to pass as a battle scarred warrior from the future. Edited July 7, 201511 yr by bluedave
July 7, 201511 yr Can't believe I have never dipped my toe into this part of the forum! Watched kingsman yesterday, which was excellent a solid 8.5/10 Planning on watching chappie at some point this week. Really liked district 9 and elysium, so I've got my fingers crossed.
July 7, 201511 yr I have gone from the sublime to the ridiculous in two days! Watched "There will be Blood" on Sunday evening - superb film - outstanding performance from Daniel Day Lewis. Watched "Training Day" tonight - what a load of unmitigated crappy bollocks!

Watched "Training Day" tonight - what a load of unmitigated crappy bollocks! Moi, I haven't seen There will be Blood but have read the book Oil written by Upton Sinclair on which the film is based. A good read. Maybe not as good as his book The Jungle (a classic in my opinion) but still worth reading.
July 8, 201511 yr Terminator Genesis. Was surprised how much I enjoyed this given the last 2 films which I found terrible. I get now why Cameron said this film was more true to his films and why he liked it. Fast paced film with some good twists and of course full of great effects. Solid 7.5/10

Solid 7.5/10 I am definitely going to go see it. Arnold is a legend.
July 8, 201511 yr 2 Days in the Valley. Watched this black comedy on NowTV last night. Seen it before, but couldn't remember it. If you like Tarrantino's style of character development, and dialogue, you should enjoy this yarn. Some great acting.

Saw it last night and was pleasantly surprised. Arnold was great in it, the action was good and it felt like an actual Terminator film, unlike Salvation. 7/10
July 8, 201511 yr Quiz Show, story of an investigation into a rigged game show in the 1950s. Very watchable film 8/10
