I'm watching Blades of Glory on the beeb now. Will Ferrell cracks me up.

Same here. He's hilarious. My respect for him went up even further when I discovered that he's an ardent Chelsea fan.

Clive Owen has been in some terrible films though. Shoot 'Em Up immediately comes to my mind.

Shoot 'Em Up was intended to be really awful and really cheesy though. The carrot thing and the occasional second thought to the baby he's carrying in the middle of a gunfight really made me laugh.

However, he made up for that by putting in a brilliant performance in Sin City. That is a sensational film.

I actually really liked Children of Men. One of my favourites that year I think.

And the scene where the child cries is one of the most powerful scenes I've ever seen.

EDIT: And as for Blades of Glory I thought it was an okay movie that made me laugh. I love watching male figure skating so the theme of the movie suited me. Was pleasantly surprised by the guy who played Wills "partner" (can't remember his name). Last I saw him was in Napoleon Dynamite which I thought was dreadful (one of the worst movies I've seen). So I didn't have high hopes when I realized he was in Blades of Glory, but I was proven wrong. He was actually good in it.

A sure fire way for me to NOT watch a film is to put Tom Cruise in it!

You should give him a chance. Okay, so many of his movies stink, but he has appeared in some good ones. His earlier works are perhaps the best, but a few recent ones are good as well (like Lions for Lambs). And he was kinda funny in Tropic Thunder.

Never mind what film I last saw - the film I am currently watching is 'War of the Worlds' with Tom Cruise and it is a nothing short of a disgrace.

Tom Cruise is as awful as you expect him to be, as is the fact they pander to his superstar status and grant him action movie immortality (Spielberg is a odious runt for trying to ruin the character in the book) and Tom Robins should be ashamed of himself for accepting the role he did and then being so appalling in it.

If anyone has only seen this film and never read the book then take the time to read the book rather than assume the story is this sh*te.

i try never to watch a film of a book ive loved if it has "superstars" in it, you can guarantee it will be utter dross. see any thing cruise has been in of late, like minority report, war of the worlds etc. and i agree about the book loz, but the best version for me was the jeff wayne record i got for xmas many years ago. it was fantastic.

Moos, if you hated Napoleon Dynamite, then you have absolutely no sense of humor. I found it hilarious, in the mold of Monty Python. You are not suffering from SAD, are you, with the lack of daylight in Scandanavia and all?

Pauly my new flat mate has been banging on about Arrest Development for ages now, is it really that good?

I think i'll have to watch it either way, as pretty much half of his frames of reference are taken from the series, so at the moment conversation is tricky.

Arrested Development was a tip from g4 and was genius. The characters and what they do with them is pure genius, haven't genuinely laughed so hard since the early simpsons and the best south parks. Have watched them all a few times now and I don't think i'll ever get sick of them...

Jeff Wayne's musical version just reinforces how appalling the film was. Richard Burton's voice or Tom Cruise - not much of a choice is it.

exactly, even David Essex was better on the LP than Tom Cruise is in the film.

good shout, loved Napolean Dynamite. offbeat but very funny. but i can see how it can be a bit of a marmite film.

I sat through a couple of Chick Flicks with Mrs Chippy last night..Up in the Air (Clooney) and All about Steve (Sandra Bullock)

I don't know if I'm alive writing this but if not that was a terrible way to go.

unlucky. my mate got dragged to that stupid Mamma Mia thing months ago, apparently our local cinema has 1200 tiles on the ceiling and 75 lights.

Sin City is quality, but Shoot 'Em Up just makes me cringe. It's too bad to laugh at it for me. :)

That must have been worse..looking away helps but it can't block out the sound of Brosnan in full Kareoke mode,

I think she's got that new Alex Baldwin thing lined up for me later, since the Snow we've been watching a bit more films and the only saving grace has been Jennifers Body (for obvious reasons).

Just watched Antichrist; I like von Trier's films and although not disliking this one my slight misanthropic traits pale in this light

Iv'e seen that film... I love Lars von Trier's films, And a lot of horror, but yeah, Antichrist was a bit.... Extreme. I suppose thats the point though, being Lars von Trier, genius that he is

No, lack of daylight hasn't affected me yet.....I think.

I'm actually a huge fan of Monty Python, but I couldn't stand Napoleon Dynamite. In the end I turned if off because I couldn't stand it anymore. I don't even think I laughed once.

Or Justin Hayward singing 'Forever Autumn'. What a voice that man has! The Moody Blues are excellent as well.

I badly want to see Antichrist. I love a good horror and that's highly rated all over the place, and a bit of mindless gore never goes amiss.

Hmm, it is really off-beat, to say the least, and so I guess it may not suit everyone's tastes.

You didn't laugh at the scene where Napoleon gets hit with a steak while riding his bicycle?

How about the one when his tater tots stuffed in his pants side pocket are crushed by a classmate?

Watched 21 on Friday. Not bad.

Saw Notting Hill on ITV last night. Again. Still enjoyed it though.

Have Max Payne lined up. I know that will be crap.

Although it's not strictly a film I'll be watching Wallander tonight. That should make me want to end it all.

Films watched this weekend (without football there seems to be so much time on hand)

The Andromeda Strain - Adaptation of Michael Crichton's novel with the same name. Overall average and fairly enjoyable.

The Man on the Moon - Jim Carrey was absolutely brilliant. No one could have portrayed Andy Kaufman better than Carrey.

Where the wild things are - Animation. Average.

Watched Avatar over the weekend in Full IMAX and 3D. Blown away with the CGI and the effects, but for 2h30, there was something missing in the story itself. I found it at times rather boring, and some scenes seemed to be only added for the CGI and nothing else. Also watched Public Enemies and was greatly disappointed. It was a weird mix between romance and gangster films, but not doing any of them very well. There is a certain Untouchables feeling to it, but without the cast that made the film great, nor the ambiance.
