Chippy will be happy.

In the immortal words of Frankie Howard (got to be old to remember that) Up Pompei!

Hope he gets in there to be honest, I wish him well.

This one was waiting to happen. I hope he gets his chance.

Good luck, Grant!

And you too Ben-haim. You'll need it to stay in the team.

He'll probably do better than 7 points from 13 games, but I doubt he'll keep them up!

I feel sorry for any manager whose club decide to employ Grant in the future. Whenever Grant shows up, the current manager is sacked in order for Uncle Fester to take over - he's like a f*ckin' vulture! ;)

Agreed, BB. I think it'll be interesting to see how he does without inheritng a team full of superstars

BBC says...

Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant has been appointed Portsmouth manager following the departure of Paul Hart.

The 54-year-old Israeli was already at the club in his second spell working as director of football, having previously worked there alongside Harry Redknapp.

He will take charge for Saturday's home game against Manchester United in his directorial role before changing his status with the Football Association.

Hope he keeps them up

He took us to the Champions League final, but fear he'll take Pompey to the Championship!

Show us what you're made of Avi - and prove you can manage at this level, and prove me wrong.

That FA cup win must seem a million miles away to the Pompey fans!

Portsmouth are very much the Deco of the Premiership. They'll play blindingly well for one game, and then be absolutely dire beyond belief for the next ten. I wonder if Avram's stifling tactics can get the best out of a limited squad which strives for consistency.

I wish him all the best, as not only do I have some fond memories of the man, but if Pompey stay up, there's a better chance of West Ham and Hull getting relegated.

I wish him well. I'll always remember him for that wavy arms thingy which clearly was a tactic to confuse the opposition.

And what a legend he would be if he could get his new team to turn over the mancs this weekend!!

:D  That was hilarious

Got to be the CL Semi's for me.

Before people judge him on what happens to Portsmouth this season I think a bit of prospective might not go amiss,

There is no guarantee a Hiddink, Mourinho or Ancelotti would save them from the drop so without getting in excuses for the bloke before the worst happens I would just say it's gonna be a harder task than he had with us.

The whole set up at Portsmouth has been so unstable that I think motivating the players is going to be a big task, if he can do that (and that may have been one of his weaker points here) I think they have the ability in the team to stay up.

Hope he does th Job and although I doubt it I would love to see the new manager effect steer them to victory at the weekend.

All the best avram....has never said a bad thing about the club and he could have..top bloke!!

Would have lost his pay off if he had

just realised that everytime avram takes over a club in the prem his first game is against the mancs. Good chance for him to reaffirm his credentials as a top class manager if he manages to keep them up.

Well, not the best of debuts.

He'll get a good reception at the Bridge.

I bet he'll get a loud rendition of "you don't know what you're doing" for old times' sake.
