How Ironic!

One player to get abuse on here left, right and centre steps up the last two games, frees up space, causes some havoc and in both games, we get 12 goals in.

Eat some humble pie for Deco!

A kind combination of system and player!

i thought it was going to be Kalou. disappointed.

I have never felt Deco's performances merited the level of criticism he has got on here. Not saying he has been world class or anythign excessive like that, just that I think he has been better than he has got credit for.

Kalou has been much worse over an extended period, Malouda before he improved under Hiddink was much worse and Joe Cole has been much worse ever since he came back from injury. I don't think we have seen anything like the best of Deco but I also think we shoud have used him more.

Deco is exactly the same as Veron was, with space and time he will tear teams apart with his passing. against most prem teams who will crowd and hassle him he struggles.

2 games from 2 seasons? I'll leave my humble pie where it is.

2 games? hes had more than 2 good games. Look, Deco is a so called luxury player, same as veron was. 2 seasons ago everyone said we needed a fantasy midfielder, someone who can split a tight defence with neat passes or skill. that kind of player will more often than not fail in his efforts to create, but the times it works we will get chances. if we want that kind of player then we need to be able to accept their failings also.

So you don't think the system has changed the last two games that Deco compliments?

I think its complimented the whole damn team!

Edit: and lets not forget, cant remember who it was against, but Deco played a deep holding role earlier this season and was fairly exceptional.

Sorry, lads. I've seen nothing to change my mind on him even in those two games and I've largely praised him when he's really done well.

We faced the last in the Prem on Wednesday and today a Villa team decidedly in a bad run of form and whose defense was really there for the taking.

He had maybe a couple of amazing passes in both games, the pass to Zhirkov being the best, but other than that, absolutely nothing special. Today he looked like he's just met his teammates, his attitude and air was more becoming of an employee on his last day of the job and his first half was ordinary at best. He didn't beat any players, no pin-point crosses, non-existent shooting, one missed chance (if I'm not mistaken). He moved decent and passed decent short, sure, but that was about it.

I fully expect BlueBeard to agree with me in much more unapologetic terms :D

I'd say you were wrong. Today he played very well. Villa are no mugs.

He gives us an extra dimension in terms of his passing and movement. On the downside you don't get so much defensive work from him. That does leave us more vulnerable in the midfield. Basically, it's a trade off.

I'd be surprised if he starts against Utd. Ferguson will have Park and Fletcher snapping away and I would think he will start Ballack.

Oh and read the MoTM thread if you want Bluebeards view - prepare to be surprised!

surprised? its made me question everything i thought i knew in life.

It was Birmingham at home! He played really well today as well but I´m not so sure he can deliver against ManU as he doesn´t have that much freedom and space there. He didn´t have it at the start of this match as well but as Villa looked for a goal, there were space for Deco. Against a disciplined defence he cannot make passes like the one for Zhirkov. But fair play to him and wouldn´t mind him starting next week as he seems to get the best out of Lamps as well!

I don't think I've ever really bashed Deco... Ballack, Kalou, Mikel, Malouda perhaps... take the latter back, certainly!

theres just something wrong with you saying youve never bashed your deco....

My hatred of Deco isn't totally based on his footballing ability or lack of it, it's more that I just hate the diving, whinging little arsewipe. And the fact that whenever a ref goes to talk to him, Deco looks like he's going to burst into tears, he makes me sick.

I've stated many times how my hatred for the stunted little turd began, but for the uninitiated, he was a leading part of the Porto team that cheated their way to winning the UEFA Cup in the final against Septic. Deco's antics actually made me feel sorry for Septic, something that had never happened before, and thankfully has never happened since - for that, I can't forgive the little c*nt.

I would like to retract my ealier statement.

I've just remembered when Deco played the holding role earlier this season and he was amazing.

Hull away or Birmingham away spring to mind, cant remember which one it was but he was really running the show.

Deco, when he has played, has done ok this season. Much more so than Joe Cole.

Well said Ben,if JC had the game that Deco had today you wouldnt hear the end of it but that aint gonna happen...............

Sometimes its easier to give credit where credits due, nice one Deco......................

Bloody hell Bluebeard after your dismembering of Zola these past few days can there be a closet Bhoy wanting to burst out,is there something you would like to share with the group. No I doubt it very much.

I dont think Deco has been exceptional the last two games, that said, hes still an improvement on Ballack who must be the most limited player in our squad.

Brute force is the only attribute Ballack still has working in his favour

Yes, but that may be just the player we need to counter the brute force of Fletcher and players such as Scholes and Carrick when we visit Old Trafford next Saturday.
