Why is Kalou a Chelsea player?

What is a player as bad as him doing at a major European club?

He is hopeless.

Genuinely one of the worst players in the league.

He can barely control a football let alone create chances for himself and his teammates.

He wouldn't make the bench of our rivals let alone start most weeks like he does for us.

This has to be his last season at Chelsea.

As a squad player he's fantastic and actually has a decent scoring/assist rate when compared with similar players.

Also, whilst occasionally lacking the final ball or finish, he constantly gets himself into dangerous positions, and unlike many of our attacking players lately does at least make things happen.

So in short: you're wrong.

Kalou earned us a penalty yesterday, a bit more than Nico did, why havent you started a thread about him ?

It was Ramires who got fouled for the penalty.

Wouldn't go as far to say Kalou is one of the worst players in the league, but he should only ever be a squad player -

NOT starting week in, week out like he has done of late.

The fact that Kalou and Mikel have featured so much for us this season, goes a long way to explain why we are struggling somewhat IMO.

Actually he has tremendous control. Joe Cole once said that Kalou is the most skilful player at the club.

But, I agree that we need to upgrade him next season. His decision making and finishing are both erratic. He's a "head down" player and always will be. Lately it seems Malouda's trying to copy that style!

Mate what are you smoking? That's the biggest load of rubbish I've heard in a while on here. Look at his record for a start.

One of the worst players in the league? I can only hope that's a deliberate exageration, or you literally have no idea what's going on.

Kalou is a good squad player and often does planty to deserve a start, he misses chances but often is our only player to get chances which shows a knack of getting into the right place at the right time,

he also troubles defenders running at them and often gets fouled giving us opportunities, I don't think Sturridge has looked as good as Kalou and both have missed chances as well as made strange decisions with passes shots etc, the difference is Kalou is an experienced international and has done the business for us on many occasions against all sorts of opposition.

I think Sturridge looked better in the game yesterday and has likely given Carlo a nice little problem in that he looked good enough for a start or at least a longer appearance from the bench.

Kalou has scored more goals than Drogba this season and towards the end of last season was a big part of us winning the title, he needs confidence and I think we're quite well sorted to have the likes of Kalou and Sturridge who are both quick skillful players in and around the first team squad.

Good points, well made, Chip

Quite a few people are on Kalou's back all the time, but he gets into the positions to miss, which is more than can be said for the rest of our forward line at the moment. If Danny keeps up that level, or, even better, improves a bit, that would be a nice poser for Carlo, and I would hope that he wouldn't either plump for Kalou because he's the current position holder, nor just choose Danny to "shake things up a bit", as some poster or other requested earlier.

best man for the job, every time, whether its Kalou or Sturridge or Borini or Kakuta or Carlton Cole.

There's a simple reason why Kalou is a Chelsea player. In the current squad he is possibly the only player that at least attempts to dribble past players with the ball at speed and on occasion, succeeds. I can't think of anybody else in our current roster(Kakuta is a maybe, but he is way too raw) who has a skill set to produce the same style of play.

We severely lack fast creative players that are good with the ball at their feet. It has been our problem since Robben lost his desire to play for the club, Duff lost his pace and Joe Cole lost his form and, consequently, his mind. For the most part we're currently the team of physically imposing hardworking strong men but with a bit of class and it's that bit of class which separates us from majority of the premiership that are just physically strong and hardworking.

So Kalou's value imo is that he adds a little bit of creativity and speed to our attack. It's not that we don't need Kalou, we just need Kalou type of players who are better than him at what he does for the team.

Its not funny mate that was my best one..I had to wear it that night as well as it was a present, certainly helped on the train home though, I had three seats to myself.

(Thought you'd missed that to be honest) :D

He's alright as a squad player when we're missing players and need someone with a bit of pace late on. But a first team player, he is not. Far too inconsistent and erratic. And it's not as if he's not had several years to improve, he's been here quite a while.

Ha, love it when people respond to something they disagree with by sarcasm - shows real good knowledge and insight...!

I don't rate him, at 3-0 up - okay, bring him on, but at 0-0 or 1-0 down? No, he's had his chance IMO. I was wrong about Drogba, Malouda and Crespo (in a good way) and wrong about Shevchenko and De Horno (the wrong way...!) - but Kalou has never really got going with us, and I think we should move on.
