September 6, 20169 yr Bridge news, think it came out that season? Personally think it was better than the advert filled glossy mag that gets sent these days

September 7, 20169 yr I was gutted, when Ray Wilkins signed for Man Utd in the autumn of 1979. Looking back it was inevitable, as we'd just been relegated in 1978/79..
September 7, 20169 yr Wilkins was the first player to leave, I can remember who I was gutted about, as he was our only superstar player at the time. As a 10 year old school boy he was practically the only chelsea player your school mates knew off. The next time I was gutted like that was when Pat Nevin went to Everton in 87 I think it was.

True mate. Yeah Nevin going to Everton didn't please me either. Think they were Champions when he moved. However, was no European Cup for Nevin to look forward to as the Englisih clubs were still banned.

September 7, 20169 yr Thanks CB for more quality pictures, this is the thread that just keeps giving.RE the Stamford bridge sign above the outer gates,I have never seen that picture but it is now in my top 10 of all time .Briallant picture ! It kind of looks mid to late 60's maybe ? With the new ground plans and I know we might all have our own individual wishes but if we could incorporate that sign somewhere then I would be one happy old bloke
September 8, 20169 yr I remember being delighted that Ipswich Town hammered Man Utd 6-0 in the spring of 1980 Sad what I remember about football at times...
September 8, 20169 yr Don't know what happened to Part 2 of this match ?! So here's the whole match highlights.

Ipswich had a good side around that time with the two Dutch guys. Remember them hammering us in the late seventies around Christmas time. The again we didn't have a good side back then.

He supplied the cross for that Van Basten volley v USSR in the 1988 European Championship Final And his fellow Dutchman Frans Thijssen. They cost a combined fee of about £300,000. John Wark was a brilliant goal scoring midfielder too. Edited September 8, 20169 yr by erskblue

Just shy of 19 million in today's money. I really like this picture, captures three distinct 'era changers' at the club: The East stand, inarguably our greatest cock-up, Ruud, arguably our most influential signing of the 90's, and the end of the Shed signalling the Bates/Harding redevelopment of the ground.
September 8, 20169 yr + one of my favourite shirts of all times and one of our best players. Thanks for this lovely pic.
