Sky sources understand Liverpool have parted company with manager Kenny Dalglish, with Wigan's Roberto Martinez favourite to replace him.

Dalglish returned to Liverpool in January 2011 as caretaker under new owners Fenway Sports Group and was then appointed on a three-year permanent deal last summer.

After spending £35million on Andy Carroll, he then invested a further £80million last summer, but Premier League results have been poor and despite a Carling Cup final success, it was their worst league campaign since the 1950s.

The Reds lost the FA Cup final to Chelsea and ended up finishing eighth in the league, below city rivals Everton.

After Dalglish flew to America earlier this week to meet the club's owners, a decision has been made to part ways and it is understood that FSG already have targets in mind.

Sky Sports understands that Wigan boss Martinez is top of their list of targets and the man who turned Aston Villa down last summer could find it hard to shun a switch to Anfield.

f**k, they should have kept him he worked wonders over there.

on the bright side we might actually be able to win over them in the league now.

Very happy he is gone..living in the past and has now outstayed his welcome with the Americans who are ruthless businessmen...who wouldn't be when you invest over $100 mill to end up half way in the table....shocking... could have bought the Red Sox a pitcher or two! My mate who is a Liverpool fan says Ian Holloway would be a good choice :laugh2:

Gutted he's gone, he'd have taken them down next year, the way he was going....I wonder whose shirt they are gonna burn over this...!

bollox...he was taking them in the right direction...downwards...still can't see how a change of manager will make any difference to the dross that is henderson and downing

Ha ha ha we got Dalgleash the sack.......................sorry had to get that out my system..........

Disappointing, his off the field personality, behaviour and actions were pure Liverpool Football Club, very well suited.

Such a shame, it was funny while it lasted the senile old goat. But oh god the mawkish reaction to this by the dippers is gonna be immense, I hope the samaritans have plenty of people on stand by.

I'm seeing twitter posts that Steve Clarke has left as well... Any confirmation on that?

Already started on Twitter, Mourinho is another name that Liverpool want (!)

Also just saw AVB to Liverpool.

Woohoo for the offseason! (not ours yet)

Alex McLeish is looking for a job, and Jordan Henderson could definitely become a right back with enough resolve. What a perfect match for the direction Liverpool are going in. Think about it.

Whatever you thought of AVBs failings as coach here, he is the kind of personality I would never want to see with the scousers. Bright, friendly, likeable, rather than embittered, myopic, and delusional.

Andre, please stay the hell away from that dump.

Im reading it too in alot of places. WIkipedia says he "left out of loyalty", probably just like KKK left out of the goodness of his heart. :laugh2:

The liverpool way strikes again.

as much as it pains me to say it I think AVB would do well there ............no history with the squad or players , younger squad desperate to win things plus money from the owner .......

...........then again he could do a Joe Cole which would be better for us ..........

I make no apologies for posting this picture again! With or without the benefit of hindsight, I think it's safe to say the writing was well and truly on the wall after the FA Cup Final:
