Goodbye Ash?

Featured Replies

Not sure if this should be here or in rumours, but ill put my neck on the block.

Do you agree with the supposed club policy that over 30's only get offered a year extension?

I think any club in the world will be rubbing their hands together at getting Ash on a free.

Lets hope he gets offered the contract he wants and deserves.

I think surely Ash and Frank should be an exception to the rule, i think its fair to say that over the last X amount of seasons Frank, J.T, Cech and Ash have been CHELSEA.

I think it should be over 30 = 2 year extension, 32 = 1 year extension.

I don't see a problem with a 1 year extension with guaranteed contract for next season after x amount of games.

Gourlay is an idiot, but he's not stupid enough to let the worlds best left back leave at a tiny price, let alone a free. I hope..

Its the calculated risk ... I think Ash is pretty fit and has few injuries so proably go on for 3 more years at the top I reckon so well worth a longer contract.

Realy think that the club should do what Utd have done with elder players like Neville, Scholes, Giggs and start JT, Ash and Lamps on their coaching badges and gradually reduce their playing time where possible.

I think in the case of Ash, who has shown he can still perform on a regular basis at a very good level a 2 year contract would be fair.

In the case of Lamps one year contracts like Scholes is fair.

The bigger question though is do we feel Bertrand is ready to be phased in? If so, then Ash doesn't necessarily need a long contract now, unless he's happy to take a wage cut and be backup in the coming years.

Frank? Unless his form drastically improves, I would not offer him another contract.

I'd be willing to extend Ash for two years but I'd be uncomfortable going any longer than that - partly because he's getting older, but mainly because of Bertrand.

silly bollox story in the stun who ran a similar one a few weeks ago saying negotiations had broken down as Cole wanted 200 grand a week, that one was rubbished by Cole, this one is more fiction, who even knows an over 30 policy exists at Chelsea.....not the f'in stun jorno that dreame up this thats for sure

.

OUCH i think thats a little unfair, hes playing a new position and the season is only in teething stage yet.

I think we should wait til atleast january before we even start speculating Franks return to B-east London.

It's perfectly fair. He's been our worst player so far this season and he's not, as you claim, playing a new position. He's also 34 years old. There's a very real possibility that he's past it as a top flight player. I'm not writing him off completely as there's plenty of time for him to turn it around, hence the qualifier "unless his form drastically improves".

The only good thing about this story is being reminded that we mugged the gooners and got him for £5m plus Gallas. Still makes me chuckle

It's beautiful, isn't it? Gallas turned to sh*t shortly after joining Arsenal. One could easily argue that his shoddy "leadership" and the disruption he caused after being named captain was worth -£5m, so we essentially got Ash for free.

Not sure about Frank's contract extension with the way he is currently playing. You could pick a random someone off the streets and he could in all probability do a better job.

It is Frank however and considering the club has paid players like Turnbull, Paulo, Yossi, Flo,Essien and Hilarious to do squat, they can pretty much shell out for Frank.

They should extend Ash's contract but only by a year. Quite frankly I want Mata to go wide and Hazard to shift central. That can't happen with Ash playing in LB as under AvB he got blitzed repeatedly with Mata on the wings. Hate the protection we need up top for both Ivanovic/ Ash . It helps with stifling play of the opposition wingers but prevents our attacking players like Mata and Eden from blasting the opposition.

Well as long as they don't extend numbnuts Mikel's contract ,I'm cool with whatever the club decide.

Seems like there's quite a few clubs that have the policy of only giving a years extension for players over 30.

I can see the reason for it and also why players might not like it. Neither side want to risk anything.

Hopefully they can come to an agreement.

Didn't Milan tell Pirlo to go for this reason? Look how that turned out.

Hope the guy stays, superb player, I'd go as far to say the BEST left back ever, i know you have the likes of maldini but when it comes to BIG games against great players im yet to see the likes of messi, Ronaldo etc beat him.

As for the Frank argument, pleaseeee he always takes a few games to get going and yes he needs to learn how to play in this new system and be more disciplined as we now have a much more attacking setup, this quite simply gets better with games, training and tactics, RDM will have a big say in this... But Frank isnt silly and he is certainly Fit enough and good enough to carry on playing at this level for a few years yet

I think people still Think as footballers as being past it by the age of 31 -32 these days, but these were based on the footballers of the likes of Peter Osgood, George Best etc who Drank hard and played hard. Nowdays with diets , Fitness coaches and the monitering of players they really can play into their late 30's at the top top level
