The Frank Lampard goal scoring record thread

Featured Replies

I thought he looked a bit off the pace in the CWC semi final when he came on, but hopefully that will improve once he gets more game time again, he's barely played all season.

I had major issues with him playing in the midfield earlier on in the season, but I think he could actually do a good job there. His game still needs a little bit of adapting, for example he was trying hollywood balls every time he got the chance yesterday, but he's intelligent and talented enough to play in our midfield. It just needs to be alongside Ramires or Luiz, who are more energetic and are able to cover for him if he's caught up field.

One of the main benefits of having him in the midfield is that he's got the ability to bring the ball out from defence much better than Mikel/Ramires (this is actually one of my favourite things about Romeu). Plus, his leadership and experience are invaluable. He is Mr. Chelsea to me more than anyone else, even JT, and I think having him in the team would help settle the others when it's most needed.

I am loath to think of a Chelsea FC which has no Lampard or Drogba (or Belletti) but which does have Benitez. Lampard and Cole should get new contracts based on that alone.

Agree with this bit, one of the biggest things we've lacked this year and as we saw in Barcelona and Munich last season, Frank is more than capable of providing that in Terry's absence. I don't think he'll break the record but what a moment it would be if he did.

The way Frank has been put in the cold over a contract is a bit sh*t.

Hopefully he earns another year or two.

He has more than earned his stripes to have a real go at the goal scoring record.   Would love to see him break it

In all competition:

Form with Lampard this season: 10 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses.

Form without Lampard this season: 5 wins, 3 draws, 6 losses.

Give this man a contract already.

edit: I didn't realise his goal today made him our record scorer in top flight competition, thats the most important record of all in my opinion.

Congratulations Frank!

Its been such a pleasure watching this guy play in his prime. Truly a player I will tell my children about.

This club has shredded so much of its dignity and pride it would be very hard to accept a player who embodies the both being allowed to leave like that.

Frank has more than earned his keep here, and if we are going to overpay one oldie, let it be him.

said in an interview after the game he is ''a goal closer to the record but feels further away from it than ever!''

Such a shame we handle contract negotiations, if a manager who was allowed to manage his own squad was in charge, Lampard would get a 2/3 year deal!

Frank Lamprd is a legend of this side. He is still an asset to Chelsea Football Club. Give him a contract now for crying out loud before we regret losing his services when he still has plenty to offer.

He should be handed a rolling year contact or a years contact with a second year extension if he completes so many games.

We'll know for sure in the next 4 weeks or so.

It will surely come out if he starts talking to other clubs.

I quite like Uno's suggestion, but more importantly, how do the club feel?

SUPER FRANKIE LAMPARD .. LEGEND

Edited by chelseablueboy

As always when a legend nears the end, I am torn on whether I want him to stay or go. Looking at Drogba`s leaving he got the timing perfect, went out on the ultimate high and will be forever remembered for his final season Champions League win. Lampard on the other hand will more than likely finish this season with at best the Europa title and perhaps a domestic trophy. Should he stay on longer and see his powers diminish to a point where he is a bit part player then will he be remembered for what he was in those goal scoring years, or what he may become in his final season(s) with us.

give him another year , get him to take his badges , then get him into a prominent coaching role at the club , he loves chelsea , he's an itelligent footballer , and the aint 10 a penny

If he's given at least one more season he should be able to break the record, unless he's out with a long time with injury

If he does become our highest ever scorer, I'd think thats exactly what he'll be remembered for.

He's also second on the all-time EPL assists, behind Giggs.

He proved yesterday he's still got it... the board could have shown a touch of class yesterday by giving him his contract after his record breaking game. Sadly, class is not something that you find anywhere near our board. He's done nothing to deserve such sh*t treatment and if he gets released without becoming our record goalscorer it will be a disgrace. You know what to do Buck and Gourlay, you stupid cretins.

In fact watching lampard yesterday, he has improved his game again, he never used to be the quickest "mover on" of the ball, but his touch and quick passing were sublime yesterday, the new boys learning an old dog new tricks, may-be.

If he does get the record it'll surely be a very long time before anyone else gets close, just checked the Chelsea stats history website and anybody care to guess who the next top scorer amongst the current squad is, Malouda excepted?

John Terry.
