I'm not sure if you have ever played football, and if you have whether you were any good?

The way Torres took his shot was textbook finishing, ask anyone who has played the game at any level, they would all have hit that shot in exactly the same way!

I would have scored it.

Same with the header, by ??? it comes at you, and you power it at the goal, you don't worry about direction from that distance you head it hard and hope for the best!

textbook finishing yet he failed to hit the target.

someone for the love of god call him up and tell him to start striking it as an amateur, maybe then he'll have a decent game

too many times during these 2-2.5 years hes had chances where he was 'just unlucky' . . . its about time we start calling it bad luck and just face the facts.

I'd be willing to put the top ten strikers in the same scenario, and I guarantee they all hit the shot in the same style, some will score, some won't.

The point being he did exactly what any other striker would have done, if that goes in, you get loads of posters on here telling you he's 'back' it didn't go in so we have the usual he's the worst player ever!!!

if my granny had wheels . . .

people here are so used to torres completely scuffing his shots that hes actually being praised for striking it well enough even though he didnt score

any of the top ten strikers would get blasted for missing it and no one would give 2 sh*ts whether they struck it cleanly or not

Nothing to do with whether its struck cleanly, it was about the technique employed to hit it!

Every other striker would have attempted the same shot, some better than others in terms of execution, Torres execution of the skill he was trying was top drawer, he was unlucky that it didn't go in, end of, nothing else, just end of!

The shot that came off the post really isn't the issue for me, it's the awful first touch. Lost count of the amount of times we are breaking, the ball comes into Torres with his back to goal and it either bounces off his trampoline foot and back to the opposistion or he tries to beat a player and literally just runs straight into them. He gives the ball away FAR too cheaply and his play inside the box isn't good enough to justify it i.e. Hernandez.

That's the issue i have, that damn touch of his is awful. I think if that first touch of his improved, which it should because it's the most basic thing in football, then most of his problems would be solved.

Either his technique or his timing was wrong. His technique looked good to me, so I guess he swung a fraction too early. All that I'm saying is that its not down to luck that he missed. HE got it wrong. Luck has nothing to do with it.

its such a stupid argument anyway. like im supposed to praise because he didnt try heading it or something

'yeah he didnt score, but the picture of him striking it would look really good on a poster'

If his timing was wrong with that type of shot, it would have gone either well wide or he'd have scuffed it. He hit that ball as sweetly as possible, if it goes in everyone is raving about it being a fantastic strike, and thats what it was, unluckily it hit the inside of the post and came out again.

Like I've said, put the top 10 strikers in the same position and they all hit that shot, some will hit it wide some will scuff it, others will hit it as sweetly as Torres did and some of those will go in, and some wont, but they will all have tried the same thing, it was the right shot to take, and it was unlucky, but I guess I can go on about this forever, and some of you are so one eyed about Torres that it wont matter to you.

Their are so many other aspects of his play you can pick on from last night, that I can't get my head around why anyone would think that this shot was anything other than unlucky.

because he didnt strike it well enough. if he did, it wouldve gone in. the ball will go where the player directs it. unless he was aiming for the upright, he didnt strike it well enough

:face_palm:  I don't know how you can't understand what I've been saying, but I'll give it one more go.

He made good contact with the ball. There was nothing wrong with his technique. There was nothing wrong with the pass. He had enough time to choose where to hit it. He chose the near post. I've gone back and looked at it again and he was a maximum of 12 yards out about 1 or 2 yards to the left of the penalty spot. The player on his left was not in the way of the goal. The other one is standing in the middle with the keeper. All he has to do is hit it either side. He missed. It wasn't bad luck that he missed, it was bad timing. He is the one in control of his body (apparently) and he failed to time his swing correctly and he ended up missing the target. It is NOT bad luck that he missed. It is a bad shot. I'd be saying the same if it was Lampard.

Bad luck would have been if something happened that was out of his control, like a bobble. Nothing like this happened and he is wholly to blame for missing that shot.

You sir are what can only be described as an idiot!

I actually think you're on a wind up, so I'll ignore how stupid that post is!

hahahah, how on earth can i argue against this fullproof argument?

SP, you know I love you, but this horse died years ago mate and you're still flogging it. Seriously, I'm about to call the RSPCC. If you want dead horses go to Tescos and buy a beef burger.

Now listen you silly sausage, let's get to the heart and liver of the matter ..

If Floppes had converted that chance, we would indeed have had loads of idiots (let's call them by their proper name) saying he's back but those idiots would have been wrong. Idiots tend to be wrong a lot. That's why we call them idiots.

Sure, he hit the post against Basle, he should have scored, but Basle are Basle. He has only scored 1 Premiership goal against a top half side, he hasn't scored in the Prem for about 60 years. Anyone who thinks he will ever be back has probably been eating too many Findus lasagnes.

Think about what I've just said. Look at his record in the Prem. It's disgraceful. It's pathetic. That dead horse you're flogging could probably do a better job.

He was abysmal last night. Abysmal. He is an abysmal player. Shocking. Totally crap. Poor beyond belief. Lacking in every single department except for pouting, falling over, bitching to the press and going to the hairdressers every 5 minutes. His presence at this club stinks. Anyone that wants the best for Chelsea wants him gone.

Oh, so he wasn't that bad last night say some it was a decent game by his standards some good things some bad things etc etc blah blah blah.

What the f**k have you been smoking?

Listen, and I'll only say this only once, if, before we bought him, we were shown a video of last night's game, and were told it was a video of a performance he would give in 2 and a half years, and were told it would pretty much sum up every other game we had seen from him prior to that game, and were told it was in fact one of his better performances, do you think Roman would have stumped up £2.50p?

Thata's my question for you. £2.50p? Would Roman have paid it? Would anyone have paid it?

Those that say he was decent have been spending too much time at Wetherspoons and eating too many of their meat pies.

Davey, you know I love you to, and I'm not disagreeing with you on the facts that last night he was not some kind of superstar, or that he has been anything but average at best for us this season.

My whole point is that he was unlucky with his shot last night, that's all, it wasn't a bad shot and he's hopeless because he mistimed his shot, didn't hit it well or all this old coblers that certain other posters are coming out with, it was pure bad luck, nothing more nothing less!

He hit the shot, something we should be grateful of, last season he wouldn't even have tried that, not only did he hit the shot, but he hit it well, I've been back to look at it again (see Cupid I've got youtube as well) the keeper is beaten all ends up, he can't aim at the other side of the goal, theres a defender in the way, it's bad luck and nothing more nothing less!

Now can we all move along and rejoice in the fact that we're nearly in the final!
