So if it hits someone on the arse and goes in the goal, thats not lucky?

well thats a ridiculous argument to make. i'll just leave you to it then

Guys guys guys, I feel an intervention is needed, and I know just the guy, it's me you'll be surprised to hear.

Was Torres lucky or was he unlucky with the shot that hit the post against Basle, that seems to be today's conundrum, a question even the great philosophers of ancient Greece would have struggled with.

Let's look at it linearly, diametrically, paradoxically, exponentially, logically, illogically, biologically and non-biologically ..

It's good to have all bases covered.

We've got Player A and Player B.

Player A performs to a high standard on a consistent basis. He bangs in the goals when they matter against top opposition. He strikes fear into top opposition defences. Basle can't live with him he's already scored seven against them and is gunning for his eighth. He hits a shot but it hits the post.

Player A was unlucky.

Player B goes by the name of Floppes. He didn't get his name by accident. His runs are woeful his control is woeful his dribbling is embarrassing he has no heart no lungs no liver and no kidneys. He spends more time in the hairdressers than on the training ground. He only ever scores on Thursdays. The Basle centre-backs have never had it so easy, not even against 4th Division Swiss sides in the Swiss Cup. A chance comes his way nobody expects him to convert. He hits the post.

Player B is sh*t.

Hopefully this puts an end to the saga. Anyone who deliberates any more on the matter is a cretin.

Thanks for proving my and a few others point Davey, you are a hero.

It's one rule for Torres and another for anyone else.

Couldn't agree more. I don't understand how because Torres hits the post its considered bad shooting but say if Ba/Hazard goes and misses the same chance they're unlucky. Regardless of form/ price/ whatever i don't agree.

I've been wondering this whole time; you do know it's spelt 'Basel' right?

BTW the press have eased in the writing on Torres I think. They still include the £50mill there but he has scored just enough I think to not get too much attention. The interest over him in general is lower but I think the worst of stories have faded of late.

Hehe, the 'post of reason', once again Davey :O)

After waiting almost a decade, the excitment Floppes generates when he shoots one on target ... well almost! ... is literally quite staggering ... :violent090:

When he finally 'puts one to bed' in the early rounds of the League Cup next year, against Kidderminster or the likes ... well i dread to think! ...   :ArousedSmiley:

This Floppes thing is just awful, doesn't even sound remotely like his name.

Com'on man........................ Say it out loud................ "Fernando Floppes". Sounds just right.

Roman and the board will surely note a new business opportunity to sell more shirts in the asian market.

:face_palm:  Stocker's shot against us the other day that hit the post was not unlucky. Mata hitting the wall from a freekick yesterday was not unlucky. Oscar's goal was not lucky. Torres missing that overhead kick against Basel was not unlucky. Rooney's overhead kick goal vs City was not lucky. Di Matteo's goal in the FA Cup final was not lucky.

It's one rule for Torres and another for anyone else.

SP, you finally realised?

Demba Ba, Kalou, Lukaku, Sturridge and Anelka could have told you that yonks ago.

Has anyone claimed that your examples were lucky or unlucky?

Was Torres goal in the CWC lucky, coz I thought it f**king was.

In certain situations their is an element of luck, be it good or bad, last Thursday was 1 of thos situations.

But like Davey said I'm all for putting this to bed, I will never agree with your assesment and you will never agree with mine, and as far as I'm concerned their are far greater faults with Torres play than whether a shot he hits is lucky or not.

I couldn't agree with you more, never disputed that a player should get picked on merit.

Of those players only Ba & Sturridge could have a real arguement for playing over him, and for some reason in his last year at the club Sturridge really did fall from grace, which does lead me to believe that their was more to it. Rightly or wrongly

This Floppes thing is just awful, doesn't even sound remotely like his name.

I am glad someone else thinks so- it's really scraping the barrell....

It is about as witty as reffering to Liverpool as Liverpoo and Chelsea as Chelski.
