You do realise that humour is subjective right?

I think I know where you are coming from though as I have met this opinion many, many times over the years following Chelsea. You are one of those who believes we should never, ever criticize our own players and should always standby them whatever. Laughing at them is a complete no-no.

Of course humour is subjective, if people find 'Floppes' hilarious then fair play to them. I am surprised (to say the least) that it is getting such praise but hey ho.

With regards to your second point I would have to disagree and I think you have totally missed the point I was trying to make. It is not the fact that it is a Chelsea player who is the butt of the joke that is the problem it is just that the 'joke' in question is ridiculously sh*t (in my opinion of course). I am more than happy to criticize Chelsea players based on their performances and have criticized Torres on this very thread many times, I just do it without resorting to name calling and the like, which is my choice.

I think the point is * coughs and puts on serious business voice * No one actually finds either of the names that funny but more so the response from the ones who have jumped to the total defence of NEVER INSULT YOUR OWN PLAYERS.

Im sure if they was looking to make you or anyone else laugh they would have used this : A horse walks into a bar the barman asks " whats with the long face "

Now THATS Comedy folk's .

The fact that there are middle aged men slapping each other on the back over it's creation and defending the nickname to the hilt as if it is a piece of absolute comic genius is what I find to be amusing and more than a little bit cringrworthy if I am honest.

Hahaha. What a hoot.

I think you'll find the only reason anyone has seen fit to defend the "nickname" is because people just can't let it go. Here we are, pages later, and you (amongst others) still can't leave it alone, and I dare say you'll bang on about it for a good few pages yet. I can't wait for your next post. Any money it's another one about the "nickname".

Wanna bet?

It's perfectly simple, if you don't like it, don't use it, but if you want to slag it off, allow people to defend it without getting in a pickle about it, that would be my advice, but hey, you do what you want (and allow others to do as they please too).

Those of you getting in a stew about it, try not to think of it as a nickname, and think of it more as an abbreviation.

"Floppes" .. It's sweet, it's succinct and it's to the point, but hey, that's just my opinion.

9 times out of 10 it goes in........that was my theory/opinion  :good2:

Now wheres that large hadron collider thingy and lets see if i can find the Torres 'goal particle'

Fair dos. But you can surely also appreciate the choice of those who don't see any harm in a silly nickname?

Personally, though I don't know them myself, I treat the players as I do anyone else. Some I will think are good footballers. Some I will think are rubbish footballers. Some I will like as people, some I won't.

Some will be a mix of the two. For example, I think John Terry has been a fabulous footballer. But do I think he is fantastic person? Would I want him going out with my daughter? No, not really.

Was always partial to "Fernandon't Scorres" which has been doin' the rounds for an age or so.

That IS witty!

sorry i meant Floppes, El nino, Lilly savage, El floppo and not forgetting the Nando region. :getmycoat:

In the words of Eric Idle.....cheer up you miserable buggers!

So you quote me and take issue with the fact that I am 'banging on about the nickname' and then proceed to..... erm...... bang on about the nickname yourself in a post longer than any of my own.

A point well made.

Ha ha that is quite amusing. Not heard that one before.

Although the dowry would be good

Now that is a good un.

I dont like him his haircuts offend me as does his bank balance and his inability to talk with a pure bred Cockney accent.

Do you think he gives a f**k though? i very much doubt it.

BUT El Floppo is funny as fook to the point that i want to waste 50+ English pounds and have it put on the back of a shirt.

Oh no u didn't!

HAHAHA...I wonder how many of you guys n girls will remember all this when he hits form next year and everyone is singing.............................FERNANDO TORRES, CHELSEAs NUMBER 9
