If Torres dropped his wages to about 70k (still a lot) and was third choice striker behind Ba, Lukaku or perhaps another striker, then yes he is a good option in the cups. His record in cups is good. 13 in 26 is a decent return and it would allow our good strikers to get a needed rest.

I think the main thing Torres has taught us about the Europa League is that the competition lacks top quality. Whilst the trophy should not be snubbed the fact that Torres looks somewhat competent in it suggest the competition is not at an elite level.

Cut your wages and accept your a bit part player, as this is what your form warrants, and you can stay. Unless you go to the middle east, nobody is going to pay you the amount we are.

Put it this way, if Villa had Torres instead of Benteke this season, they would have been relegated by now. Whilst this cannot be proven, I can say that with complete confidence.

On tonight: he was good enough without showing any quality. He did what you expect strikers to do at the very minimum. This unfortunately is a pleasing performance from Torres

Seems some have a personal vendetta against him, I really thought he did okay tonight. Not good, not bad, but okay. I'll support him as long as he's a Chelsea player, i can see why some won't but that's just me.

you cant be serious!! couldnt finish to save his life, made poor runs, had the customary touch of a rapist . . . a f**king monument can trap balls better than

my good how poor your standards must be if he did okay . . . he was by far the worst chelsea player on the pitch

Anyone criticising Torres for tonights performance didn't watch the match. He was good on the ball,a lot go nice touches , held it up well and gave Moses and Hazard time to break, he should have scored once but was agonisingly close when he hit the bar. If i had to rate him tonight 7.5

The jokes section is in the lounge.

any time Torres plays well my fellow shed-enders use the same argument 'by his standards it was an ok performance but his standards are so low'

he was good tonight, should have scored and was unlucky not to have scored. if it was Demba up front with the same touches/passes/shots we would be saying he played well

yes, possibly. Do you think club's expectations from torres and ba are the same? Please compare the amount we shelled (transfer fee) + the amount we are leaking (wages) when you talk about ba & torres. We wanted a talismanic forward to replace drogba - look what we got ???

Another point for Torres sympathisers - remember his rant after CL win !!! he complained and bi*ched about not being given the mantle ... & now after we give him what he wanted (Also bring the FSW as manager) - odd ok performances in europa league are not fans expect. For decent europa league performances we might as well bought shane long, zamora, dempsey etc... eh?

thought he did ok last night, won some excellent headers and set up some decent attacks in the first half. He was unlucky with the shot that hit the inside of the post, on another day that flys in. But that seemed to knock him again and he went to bagwash. He was not the worst player on the pitch last night though, I thought Lampard had a terrible game.

What I can never understand about Torres is how even the most basic elements of controlling a football are so often completely beyond him. Surely he must practice this day in, day out in training? His first touch last night was generally horrific.

From tweeter: I hope Torres never falls into a bucket of tits because he's so unlucky he'd come out sucking his thumb

I disagree with the word unlucky in the above, as I'm a useless twat too, but alas don't earn 150,000 a week

Poor again last night. Literally the worst first touch I've seen from any Chelsea player in 20 years. And even when he gets his first touch right his second touch is ridiculously heavy. Looks like his brief spell of 'form' has gone.

Sweddy probably thought he looked world class.

Could of summed up Torres whole Cheslea career in last nights game.

Touch, not good.

Workrate, good first half, worse second half.

Runs, some good, some baffling.

Shots, some very poor, but also very unlucky not to score.

Definately not the worst player last night, but by no means the best.

I don't get this. He's about 10/12 yards out, straight in front of goal and he misses the target. That's not bad luck, that's just a bad shot.

The most annoying thing is that Lampard was right behind him and it was going to be on his right foot.

You're obviously someone who won't give Torres any slack.

so he should ask for a wage drop? Not his fault the club was stupid enough to pay 50 million and extortionate wages, blame Roman for that.

You saying he's worth he's wage? Of course I blame roman but surely a professional footballer can control the ball.

So you think he was unlucky to miss from there?

When you hit the inside of the post, with a shot like that, then yes it's unlucky, if it was any other player, you'd be saying it was unlucky as well. But as we know Torres lives under a different set of rules than the other players, not that some of it is not down to him.

Of course it was unlucky FFS, can't think of any serious football observer who wouldn't say it wasn't - look at it again, he had to go to the far left and didn't have the whole goal.

That's completely untrue. I say it every time. It's one of the many things that annoys me about football punditry that a shot like that can be called unlucky. He's about 12 yards out, in front of goal and he misses the target. Its not unlucky. Unlucky would be if it took a bobble as he was about to make contact.

Rather than have a bland statement like " it wasn't his worst performance" I'd like people to give specific examples of what he did that they thought was good. dkw has mentioned that he won some excellent headers. Well he did win a few flick ons but surely that's something you would expect from a centre-forward who is 6ft+. And indeed there was one occaision in the 2nd half where he completely jumped under the ball and it bounced clean over his head! It wasn't eactly Drogba like aerial domination.

And whilst I do think the shot that hit the post was unlucky, 2nd half you also had the Ramires' pass which went to Torres who shot straight into the prostrate keeper. Good job the pass to Ramires was called off-side as it saved Torres more embarassment. Then there was the incident where Luiz carried the ball forward and was waiting for Torres to move and give an angle to receive the pass. The ITV cameras caught Luiz's reaction when Torres failed to do so and the pundits rightly commented on it.

I do think the overwhelming majority on here have got the message that the bloke is completely finished as a top class footballer and his inclusion is holding us back. However, there are still a few who simply refuse to accept it and probably.................................. never will.

If Demba Ba had hit that shot last night, everyone would be saying he showed good movement and hit a powerful shot and that he was unlucky, those that argue differently are lying and I'll call you on it now!
