It is true that strikers do need good service to be able to score. * However, for creative players, they also need a striker who is making the right runs and getting into the right positions, if they are to provide said service.

Look at the 30 mins Sturridge had up front, him and Mata played really well and mata found him with lots of through balls because he was in the shoulder of the defender, looking for the ball. Then look at Torres and the positions he takes up - always drifting wide and just standing around, never on the shoulder of the defender but instead always giving them enough space to easily close him down. Is it any surprise not much is being created for him? If I was a striker still and stood out on the wing would I expect many chances to be created for me to score? No.

* - Actually this is bullsh*t. Players score in every league. You don't have Matas and Hazards in the non-league, but strikers still manage to score because they get into the positions to score.

Every passing game I just dislike this guy more and more. It's not his fault he's sh*t, it's not his fault Roman loves him and wants him to play every game. But regardless, it is still him who is the reason for a lot of what is wrong with our club at the moment. Also the fact that he has continually bitched and moaned in the press is hardly doing himself any favours.

How long will it take to work out you cannot polish a turd?

How many managers will need to be sacked before the penny drops?

The obsession with this goalless wonder has led our club owner to employ a manager who once managed a team where "the hero" scored goals...great!

This manager has not only recently admitted that the lesbo may not be able to match his previous form, he has openly shown his dislike for the club he now manages.

Get the lesbian and fat waiter out and bring some order and balance back to our team.

There's only one Di Matteo!

Judge his form by all means, but don't get personal with insults, it's not his fault that Roman thinks the sun shines out of his arse !

Agreed, but it is his fault that he has no heart.

Yes and I want him gone more than anyone, but tonight Iv'e seen our lot calling him a spastic and now lesbo, we should not be throwing sh*t like that at him.

He gets paid 170k a week. He does nothing for it, apart from bitch to the press, and have private chats with Roman and gets the manager he wants. Don't feel too sorry for him :)

We probably got better value for money from Winston Bogarde

Without Robin van Persie's goals Man United would be 15th. Without Fernando Torres' goals Chelsea would be exactly where they are now.

Van Persie is a much better player. I've said a much since Torres joined Liverpool, it also helps that Fergie uses a system that plays perfectly to his strengths.

Nope. Without his goal against Reading we have two less points.

Just saying

You're right, this is not a personal issue and I apologise for the insults.

Looking at the issue pragmatically, Torres is not happy playing for this club and this is obvious looking at his levels of commitment and body language when he plays.

This fact should be recognised and rather than trying to force a square peg into a round hole, let him go and move on.

I think there were two possible options the owner had:

1. Employ a manager who can bring the best out of Torres

2. Sell Torres and consult the existing manager for a recommended replacement

I think the wrong option was taken in this instance but i'm confident our owner will correct any signs of potential failure without any hesitation.

Roman has taken this club to the next level, we've won everything possible while he's been around. Not only that he's always present at most the games which show his commitment and personal interest in the clubs success.

Onwards and upwards!

I don't think it's fair to say that Torres doesn't care at all, or doesn't want to be there. If that were true, he wouldn't look all whiny and pissy when he gets subbed out. He'd look indifferent.

The chances of this happening are slim and none, but here's what I'd like to see:

Give Torres a striker partner. Sturridge, Hazard, Moses....whoever. Then instruct him to play like Chicharito. Look, I give Torres a bunch of credit for realizing that he's not the same player anymore, and that Chelsea don't play like Liverpool used to. So, he tried to adapt. He became a little better at link up play. He improved his passing and crossing. He contributes more on defense than he did for them. Etc., etc., etc. But at the moment, we need a pure goal scorer.

So tell him to do like Hernandez -- park your ass in the penalty area. Expend every ounce of energy you have in there. Forget tracking back. Forget going wide on counter attacks. Forget lining up at the back post on corners. Get aggressive, go for every ball that's anywhere near you in the penalty area and shoot the second you can get a foot on it. Shoot, shoot, shoot.

Maybe nothing comes of it. Who knows? But I can't imagine the results being any worse.

I thought he looked better than he has for weeks today.

(he was still sh*t)

Also, just seen Lukaku's goal vs Swansea. Safe to say he's now better than Torres?

If teams like man u and city can do it why can't we? I'm starting to get pissed of with the obsession we have of only playing 1 up top even when there are games (like tonight) where playing 2 would give us a much better chance of grabbing a goal. If anyone thinks that moses wouldn't of had a better influence on the game tonight than romeu then they are clueless!

We need to be more flexible in games like tonight instead of sticking to the same formation even when the other team have it under control!

I understand what you are saying, trying to help Torres become part of the team by pairing him with a strike partner and giving him some freedom to help boost his confidence and perform better.

But the problem and underlying issues remain, we are having to make sacrifices to our team and hoping Torres will "maybe" perform as he used to...i've always shown him respect and waited for him to perform but now i've just lost my patience. I thought Kezman was poor...

Despite the massive investment, he is an undeniable flop.

Unfortunately he's been placed under so much pressure with the massive fee that was paid for him and the expectation for him to perform. I don't think any of this was his decision or his fault, he was probably badly advised by a greedy agent and Liverpool were happy to pocket 50 million.

Personally I think we should allow Torres to move on, he is a great player and hopefully will show everyone what he's capable of one day. However he's not a Chelsea player and never will be.

Exactly! I keep hearing 2 striker formations are a thing of the past. Really? United and City both play with 2, and they're the last 2 Prem champions, and the top 2 so far this season.

I get playing with 1 and packing the midfield against teams that are more dangerous. But at home against Fulham?

FWIW, my suggestion isn't just to "help Torres." It's to help the team. While I'd love for Torres to rediscover his goal scoring form for his own personal well being, more importantly, I want him to do so for Chelsea's well being. He's the striker we have for at least another month. And pending what gets done in January, might be the striker we have through May. I'm as frustrated as the rest of you with the lack of goals. But until we've got Falcao or whoever else lining up at striker for us, we might as well try something different to see if we can get Torres scoring.....and more importantly, Chelsea winning.

My idea of changing to 2 strikers isn't just about helping torres though. Like I said, the 2 teams above us in the table both play with 2 strikers and it works for them. In games where the other teams are just going to defend for their lives and not offer much going forward why can't we stick 2 up front and lose one of the defensive midfielders?

Come off it. Torres is the reason we are playing with one striker, we barely given our second choice forward 200 minutes on the field as a striker. It's pretty obvious that the last 3 managers we have had needed to play Torres as much as possible and it had very little to do with their preference.

Bet the people asking to play two up top are the same people who thought that once Drogba is gone Torres will step up from under his shadow.

Torres is finished, he should not be starting important games for a club with aspirations of winning titles. The 4th Choice strikers at United and City are about as good as he is, difference is they don't play 1800 minutes in less than half a season - most likely they would be lucky to get that many minutes for the entire season. Fact is that 3 managers have dropped him at the end of their stints possibly because they were as frustrated as us with his performances.

It's a huge joke that when all excuses are exhausted people go 180 degree turn on their opinions and their new radical idea is something which was tried when Torres first got here and did not lead to anything positive for both Torres or the club.

I've heard that Torres has never recovered from that knee injury he got at Pool and he's been playing on it for years.

That would explain his loss of pace and acceleration.

So I'll you this question. What did Romeu give to the team in a game like tonight? Replacing him with another striker wouldn't of effected the balance of the team at all. All it would of meant was that we had more chance of scoring!
