If Liverpool don't get CL this season Suarez will want to leave, I have no doubts about that. He's too good for Liverpool and the stat I read a few weeks ago saying if Suarez wasen't playing then Liverpool would only have 2 points from 10 games.

Too many people on here swallow the press puddle water.

Well can you blame us really? Who would have believed the press bollocks about benitez being appointed a few weeks ago?

It's been said before but I think Torres' loss of speed is 99.99% of the reason for his decline, both due to the obvious physical ramifications and also mentally it has knocked him (must take a lot of out of you to get up every day and work as hard as you can, knowing that no matter how hard you try it is not possible to get back to as good as you were).

2.45 he has attempted to do this numerous times for Chelsea but always seems to get nowhere near to even pressurising the defender, much in contrast to how he used to zip forward.

To be honest I don't really understand why he has lost so much pace. Professional sprinters often go through multiple prolonged injuries and yet they maintain their career at the top. Torres was only out for a few months with a common knee problem, it must be a mental thing also?

It was always on the cards since he was one of very few options out of work who has CL, title winning and English expierence.

Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez believes Fernando Torres was at his peak at Liverpool.

The new Blues boss has called on Torres to attempt to get back to that level with the help of his team-mates, but is unsure how close he can get.

Torres, 28, scored 81 goals in 142 appearances for Liverpool but has only got 19 since his 2011 move to Chelsea.

"It [Torres' form] is not the same now as when he was at his maximum but I think he can come back," Benitez said.

"How close? I don't know. It depends on the rest of the team. I think he can improve but the team has to help him."

Chelsea are without a win in five league games ahead of Wednesday's meeting with local rivals Fulham.

Analysis

Benitez, who takes charge of his second Chelsea game since replacing Roberto Di Matteo last week, believes some added physicality will help Torres. "The first thing is to give him some confidence; give him instructions of what he can do in a different way to improve him and the rest of the team a little bit physically," said Benitez.

Chelsea have managed just one clean sheet in their last 11 outings which came in Sunday's 0-0 draw with Manchester City and Benitez believes that tightening up the defence will ease pressure on Torres having to score.

The former Liverpool manager also hinted he may change the shape of the side to help them improve defensively as Chelsea have used just 19 players in the Premier League - less than any other team.

"When you have a striker you always think he has to score," said Benitez.

"If you can be stronger in defence, you can regain the ball easier, you have more chances because you have more possession so that is the idea.

"We try to improve them a little bit physically and the shape of the team if we can, then keep the good things that they had."

Benitez will be hoping for his first win on Wednesday as he has a battle on his hands to win over disgruntled supporters who are annoyed the Spaniard was brought in to replace Di Matteo.

The Blues' faithful made their opinions clear by booing Benitez before their draw with City, but the former Liverpool manager remains unperturbed.

"If you have a player that has not got the support of the fans what I will tell him is: 'Stay focused. Try to do your job and concentrate on your football'," he added.

"For me it is the same. I understand how the fans feel at the moment."

what sickens me is after all the noise he made about not being given any chances he looks like a lame duck upfront. What makes it worse is he stuffs his pockets with 150k or whatever net taxes every week. I would like to have a sit down with whoever thought it was a brilliant idea to have 2 front men (that is if you consider Sturridge one & funny he never seems to be fit) for a 60+ game season.

IMO we are still 2 front men short at present and come Jan I would even take Bent on loan that is how dire we look upfront.

Nah, It depend on Torres not the team.

We have been pandering to him for nearly 2 years now and nothing has worked despite having world class players behind him like Lampard, Essien, Mata, Hazard, Oscar ect.

Thanks to Roman, yet he cant do no wrong in some fans eyes ffs.

44% - Chelsea's PL win percentage with Fernando Torres starting since he joined, compared to 63% without him. Peg.

I think it's a coincidence - problem with the whole statistics is that players "up" their games knowing that a player of Torres's calibre isn't in the team to bail them out

Interesting comment from Rafa. It could go 2 ways. One, Torres feel sorry for himself and seal the exit by Janunary, which is not a bad outcome either. Two, it stirs him on and he put in a few good shifts and help us to get a good run. I don't know what's happening in the dressing room, but it's long over due for the manager to grab him by the throat and yell at him - step up, or you are f* out of here.

omg are there still people hoping he will come good? how many times have we expected an 'event' to stir him on? ive lost count now

There's people on here saying if Suarez was to come here it would be the last straw, same people who can easily accept Fata...

If Suarez was here it wouldn't be at the expense of an unfairly sacked man that had just given the Club one of its best seasons, certainly its best season out of what looked a failure.

he would have to compete for his place, he's never slagged us off or belittled us, he might be an arse but he's an arse with huge talent.

I wouldn't choose for him to come here but if he was available for the next game he'd have Torres place in an instant for me.

I would like to know what they mean by last straw. Does it mean they will turn their backs on Chelsea ? if so then they would qualify as plastic fans backing off when things get tough.

It annoys me that Rafa has gone back to the old Torres isnt getting the service line that was used in his first season. Im sorry but i could bang in 20 goals a season with Mazacar behind me. I dont think even Messi and Ronaldo could help Torres now. The guy is finished at the top level. If he was smart he would go to the likes of PSG or one of the high paying Russian teams for a big payday and the go back to spain to retire.

To be fair. Recently Mazacar have been wasteful and there have been few chances for Torres, in fact I think Mata has been equally responsible for missing of late.

True. And it doesn't help that when they DO manage to create a chance for Torres, he has trouble controlling the ball at his feet or takes a touch too many and the opportunity is fluffed. It's extrmely frustrating.

Perhaps a shoot on sight policy for Torres should be implemented? Like Beletti used to do in the good old days.

That's not fair at all. In fact it's bullsh*t. Don't know if you saw Sturridge play up top for half an hour against West Brom? You would have seen chance after chance created. That should tell you all you need to know, but hey, keep apologising for Torres if you must.

No they have just been overplayed and are struggling to play to the standard they have been when they were fresh.

We need to rotate and use Moses, Marin and Studge more often.

That's pretty much the crux of the matter. Sturridge is fast and talented, Moses is a beast and Marin...well we'll see more of him soon hopefully. Seeing Mazacar start every game is getting tiresome. At least sub-on Mosarinidge at half time if it's still goal-less.
