My idea of changing to 2 strikers isn't just about helping torres though. Like I said, the 2 teams above us in the table both play with 2 strikers and it works for them. In games where the other teams are just going to defend for their lives and not offer much going forward why can't we stick 2 up front and lose one of the defensive midfielders?

This is my opinion and I would welcome a good discussion... I think the signings we made this summer have transformed our team into a very attacking team which all comes from the midfield. Di Matteo acknowledged this fact and was bold enough to rely on this strength by dropping Torres from attack in the Juve game. Maybe a little naive and he showed his inexperience by experimenting but he believed in the midfield lads i.e. Hazard, Oscar, Ramires, Mata.

I think he was trying to replicate the Spain international team or Barca by using the midfield to work as a unit and score from anywhere which was a gamble but very possible with the talent we have. Unfortunately Juve are too experienced, Italian teams are naturally strong defensively and our team is still learning to play this style of football.

You mention using 2 Strikers and relying less on defensive mids...I'm actually not very confident in the defensive mid we use at the moment so eliminating him would be very worrying.

I'd rather stick with what Di Matteo was trying to achieve and using the midfield to attack as a unit. All the players we have are capable of scoring and very attack minded so we have less reliance on a dedicated striker.

Should have stuck with this ethos while strengthening the DMF position and swapping Torres for Falcao.

We would have seen some exciting football, unfortunately Benitez has already set the team up in a way our exciting players cant express themselves resulting in a goalless draw against Fulham...boring!!!

So I'll you this question. What did Romeu give to the team in a game like tonight? Replacing him with another striker wouldn't of effected the balance of the team at all. All it would of meant was that we had more chance of scoring!

Three things:

1)Bringing on another striker would not magically create chances for us.

2)We don't have another striker to bring on because our second choice striker is injured and we only have one alternative a wide forward who's highest tally in a season is 6 goals.

3)The reason we don't have alternatives is because the Board put all their eggs in the Fernando Torres basket, but those eggs were turning rotten two years ago.

I think mata, oscar and hazard would thrive on an extra attacker infront of them. When they look up and see torres surrounded by 2 or 3 defenders it makes them hesitate so if they could look up and see 2 striker i think it would make them more effective.

Like I said, I would only use this in games like tonight where teams will just sit back. Romeu was completely wasted out there tonight and didn't help out defensively or offensively! An extra forward would of meant we would of had an attacking edge whilst not losing much defensively.

So your admitting that not enough chances are being created for torres? Romeu was offering nothing out there tonight. He wasn't needed defensively and he doesn't give us much offensively so by replacing him with moses and putting moses alongside torres it gives there defence something to think about and opens up gaps.

Agree with all the above.

With regards to our second striker and i'm presuming you're referring to Sturridge?

I think a striker needs to be selfish to an extent but should show some awareness of what's happening around him. I also think some modesty or humbleness comes across well after scoring a goal especially while you are still losing or drawing a game.

A team should be built around its best player(s). Di Matteo tried this and got sacked, until our so called "best player" leaves we will continue to be disappointed.

Funny you should say that because the tongue waggers have said that mikel was dropped because fsw says he is not offensive enough

Which would make the decision to play romeu in place of him and bertrand on the wing even more ridiculous!

Substitute the parrot for our Nando;

Some new excuses you can use in there. He's tired and shagged out after a long squawk. He's pining for the fjords.

Stats dont lie, hes 18th so far in scoring charts in prem, we are trending at 1/3 rd of the season nearly, he's finished, no more excuses or reasons why he cant perform based upon a 100 other factors, which bandwagon BTW the FSW has jumped upon to justify why he will fail at getting Torres to perform.

Hopefully if this goes on until January Abromvich will come to his senses, unload Torres and fire the FSW.

Create more chances for Torres, is that you Rafa?

You fail to realize that as much blame there is to the midfield about not creating chances for Torres that argument is a boomerang. Torres can't beat players one on one; Torres hesitates when shooting; Torres looses the ball on average 5.5 times a match; Torres hides behind 2 defenders without making runs; Torres remains flatfooted as balls are played into the box; Torres decides to stay on the wing or midfield while we are attacking; Torres is lacking a yard of pace; Torres's first touch is like a brick wall making his second touch a tackle.

You can't blame these things on Service as much as you probably want to

When you got a striker who does some of the things listed above, he is bound to get a few goals that are "easy" but when you got someone who has his hands on his hips while Hazard is trying to play a clever back heal to him and only for him to start running when it becomes impossible for him to get to the ball - you've might as well be playing with 10 men. So at the very least the rest of the players realize that he isn't an option so they stop wasting possession.

I was only saying about the creating chances thing because one of your points was "A 2nd striker won't magically create chances". Why won't it? If it is all torres fault we are not scoring then surely if another striker is there then chances will start being created? Otherwise I don't get what point you were making when you said that.

Amazing how many of those players play as the lone front man, or don't play up top at all but play in teams with only one up front.

I think the excuses for Torres have to stop.

People now saying we should field two strikers.

One would be nice.

I can't take it any more...I've supported him, and have wanted him to do well

But it's torture watching him play.

Two strikers...do me a favour ::clap2::

Can you imagine Torres and Sturridge up front?

One cant score and the other cant look up...in fact all our midfielders CAN score so why do we need strikers?

I think you have reading comprehension problem - a player who:

1) looses the ball

2) doesn't make runs

3) hesitates when shooting

4) takes too many touches when one on one with the keeper

5) is unable to beat defenders

6) never tries to get in front of his marker when crosses are played in

7) stays flatfooted and doesn't possess the first touch of Berbatov

8) spends more time outside the box than inside the box

9) passes 30.7% of balls into opposition

10) manages one shot on goal every 90 minutes

11) manages one shot at goal every 45 minutes

Should not be classified as a striker - it's as simple as that.

Torres is practically reinveting football by creating a new position/role in the team. I call this new Torres influenced role "the passenger"

The chance against stoke was my favourite...mata finds him with a lovely chipped ball, acres of space, he chests it down...and then it hits his foot and comes to nothing

I have a feeling DD will be back at the Bridge in January, then Torres will have to get used to the bench again.

I was happy when FT signed for us and i have kept in him since now, first it was him getting used to the club, then the formation, then Drogba, the managers, his form, no service, what next?

CFC and Torres are not compatible, its better for both for him to leave and restart his career as he still has some years ahead of him.

So your now saying torres isn't a striker? As much as you may not rate him I bet 70% of teams in the prem would take him of our hands if the price was right.

Torres hasn't been a striker since joining CFC, he has been a passenger. Tell me the names of these 70% of clubs in the EPL who will play Torres as a first choice striker

Why would Torres go to another Premiership team?

1. Man Utd - Fergie doesn't want him

2. Man City - Too many strikers

3. Arsenal - Can't pay his wages

4. Liverpool - Really?

5. Tottenham - Seriously?

6. Any Spanish La Liga team vs Premiership team...

Athletico Madrid would welcome him back all day long...have you seen how they kick a ball around?

I hate to say but they destroyed us in that Supercup...Falcao ran the show that day.

Hense why he said "if the price was right" I would say that probably only United and City in the prem wouldn't have him if he was affordable.

I only managed to watch the last 20 minutes of todays game and he looked like he was doing better than recent weeks, still needs to improve a sh*t load though. I hope we get Lukaku back in January. I just feel really bad for Torres, I would just love to know the real reason why it hasn't happened for him at Chelsea. Injuries? Confidence? Not the right system? Personally I think it's a combination of all 3.

I think some here would love to nail him to a perch and maybe put 4000 volts through him.

Though I have to say that seeing as it is a norwegian blue, I've always thought of it as Flo.

If we don't sign a striker in Jan then I will lace up my boots and head over to SB.
