Chelsea FC make a profit!

Featured Replies

Thank you Didier!

Had a conversation with my mate who's a Spurs fan a year or so ago and I claimed within 5 years we'll be making a profit, he said it will never happen. I look forward to informing him of this.

Given the dates I take it this does not include the transfers of Oscar, Hazard, Moses and Cesar?

Well done Chelsea, this is very significant and I must say I am pleasantly surprised…

Who made us money in the transfer market, we got rid of quite a few players but I didn’t think it was much money?

And to think that these numbers probably includes compensation for Carlo and AVB ?

Despite that it is great to turn a small profit. Another thing that is massively significant is Roman turning his debt in equity which he has done in stages, it’s just 2 fingers to those who think he is not in this for the long haul.

Despite what many think of our club, in Roman’s time, has been extremely well run and the board have not wavered from their mantra as soon as they were constructed which was initial investment then work on making the club self-sustaining. They have done it !

Posted before I saw RFC_CFC comment... good point on, still cant work out how we made money inthe transfer market, think I am missing something obvious

And rightly not, those players are investments for the coming season, their transfer fees will be on next years books, so let's see what the season brings.

I wouldn't worry about it not including this season's transfers, we have until 30th June 2013 to make that money back. I'm also pretty sure we sorted a few sponsorships after this date too so that money wouldn't have been included.

Not disputing that at all just thought I would clear it up as some including myself thought otherwise before reading it more in depth.

There is a good £60-70 million there in fees we have spent not taken into account but we have also lost the big wages of Essien, Drogba, Bossy, Kalou ect so it will be interesting to see how we balance this out in the coming financial year especially if we are to bring in a Falcao type player.

That result the other night may well be very improtant in that regard.

Not a suprise really, for years now everyone has been having digs at our club and saying Roman will get bored ect ect.

Almsot a decade later we are looking in great financial shape plus Roman is ambitious as he ever has been while we are the current champions of Europe.

People are angry that we have proved them wrong and will continue to attack...while we will continue to win.

All the comments so far on Skys version of the story have been negative, surprise surprise...

Ha, sky only let through rubbish comments. Bunch of united fans mocking 1 million profit when all their profit goes to paying off debt interest. I know what situation I'd rather be in.

It would be interesting to see how the accounts break down. We spent a fair old bit last season, although we recouped quite a lot as well. The wage bill has been cut significantly in recent years with the likes of Ballack, Anelka and other established big names having left. If reports are correct the replacements aren't earning the similar high amounts. The Champions League success is obviously the big earner from last season. Some of the sponsorship deals such as Gazprom should see us in an even better position by June next year. Failing that we'll just have to win the Champions League every year

In the meantime I'm going to have some fun with fans of other clubs with this bit of news.

This is undoubtedly excellent news for us, especially with FFP looming on the horizon. However, I would view these financial results with a bit of caution. Without the victory in Munich we would have probably a loss similar to what we've seen in the previous years. So, unless we win the PL or CL this season, I'd expect us to make a loss this season, albeit one smaller than what we've seen so far under Abramovich due to the added revenue that Munich has given us.

The only genuine way I can see us becoming profitable year after year is with a new stadium and with better youth developmen. Also, I feel its time they renegotiated a new sponsorship deal with Samsung as this is something that hasn't been done in a long time I believe.

One thing I don't get:

"In addition, significant profits (£28.8m) were made in the transfer market."

How is this possible?

Money owed from previous deals?

Only thing I can think of.

Yeah i didnt get that either. We didnt sell anyone apart from Alex if i remember rightly.

Well we sold Zhirkov too, but apparently overall we still had a transfer expenditure of £40million in the 11/12 season.

Now that's f**ked the latte drinker's argument, how's Wengar going to explain away "Players-Champions-Profit"

Well to be honest we were always going to have made more money because of the F.A cup and most importantly Champions League success. I expect that this time next year we will be back to losing more than we are earning. It's over £80m on transfer fee's alone so far this season so unless we win the Prem and Champions league we will definately be losing out.

Especially if we are to spend big in Jan as so many think we need to for a striker.
