Tactical changes making a difference?

Featured Replies

A few clues at last to some changes which have started to be made, and should improve our results

First....making sure one of the holding players stays put, Romue is doing that

Second....longer diagonals into Torres, and quicker from our own half, Romue doing that too

Third.....channel passes down the side of the centre backs for Torres, like his first goal, that's where he wants it

Fourth....not starting wiv mata, hazard and Oscar as the 3 but Moses in for one of them instead and that gives us different options, Moses. Definitely good enuf

I am not a fan of Benitez the man at all, but these tweaks are improvements

I am yet to see these improvements. 1 good game against a side like Nordsjaelland is not going to feel me with hope. If we manage to bring those things into the Sunderland game then maybe i will agree, but so far i am failing to see how Benitez's tweaks are helping us.

These certainly worked against nordsjaelland but only time will tell if he continues to use these tactics in harder games, and whether they work.

premier league home 0-0 D

premier league home 0-0 D

premier league away 3-1 L

CL vs team already out at home 6-1 (team we beat 4-0 away)

I don't see any improvement and rather than seeing tweaks the Fat Twat has made as improvements I feel the results under Robbie would have been

beter, I think he would have turned it around and we'd be about 4 points better off at this stage.

Mind you a win against the mighty sunderland and Rata will be almost a legend.

If we don't win today...grr.

To be honest he just play it exactly how we did against Nordsjaelland. High tempo, lots of attacking, and defend well when we need to.

a couple of minor 'improvements' Chippy......'Mind you a win against the mighty Sunderland and Rata will be a legend in his own mind'   :face_palm:

I still wake up thinking that this is all just a bad dream.....

Chippy I'm suprised you didn't notice those reverse diagonal channel balls and the inverted holding-pivot ploy in the double diamond formation against Norjeslland and Sunderland. There is no doubt Mr Benitez, with his superb tactical acumen, is already transforming us into a fluid footballing machine that the rest of the world will envy.

Shame about the Wet Spam result though.

Disappointing to see a few signs of acceptance towards our current interim manager creep in this week. The fans need to stay strong on this. He isn't welcome at Chelsea and will never be accepted.

The current interim manager could not have picked 2 better sides to play this week and its no surprise we picked up two wins. With our group of players it's the very least we should expect and if anything it just makes me more furious about what happened in East London last week.

Thrilled the team has won a couple of games but I believe it's was only a matter of time before we started to win again and these results are in spite of not because of the management setup. It's like it's 2008 all over again.

If we win this world club thing next week ill be thrilled but it will be bittersweet. To see the current interim manager holding that trophy will make me nauseous.

Heard that AVB had told Rafa he needs to systemate the defensaction while ehancenating the approachability of the obliquenessity

And FSW replied "Qué?"

I'm not warming to the fsw one bit but one thing he has got right is hazard trying to slip I behind Torres. They highlighted it on motd where he slips in behind the full back and mata finds him as he always does

So far I feel Robbie would have done better but he has improved some aspects of our game.

Exactly right. We had won 2 games in our last 10. Then we played two softies and have beaten them both easily. If Robbie was still here, there is no saying we wouldnt have battered Fulham or let a lead slip like that against West Ham.

The only real change I can verify is the use of Moses, which Robbie was doing a fair bit (and should have done more). But even that is suspicious. The attacking lineups have been different in all 5 games under Benitez which is more a signal of a manager groping for the right formula than trying to outwit the opposition. And if he was trying to outwit the opposition, it hasnt worked for 60% of the minutes he has been in charge.

As far as Torres, I'm struggling to see BEnitez's magic touch. All I see were two easier games with two defenses primed for destruction. Torres managed to oblige, but was still full of the frustrating errors we know so well. He looked more like a man thankful for some easy goals than a striker reborn as a ruthless killing machine under FSW.

edit: Oh, i forgot to give him credit for one thing. Letting Marko Marin onto the pitch. All hail the footballing Aristotle that is Rafael Benitez.

Christ I coudnt imagine those two talking tactics. It would be a constant episode of oneupsmanship until one finally died of starvation trying to get the last word in.

That sounds like an excellent option!  With AVB the survivor!

Youre just saying that because you want the looker to survive, Moi. We both know Benitez's ample waistline stores many more calories to help him survive!

While he can only try to beat whats in front of him, RAFA has beaten Champions League cannon fodder and a Premier league team, in the relegation zone, with 13 points from a possible 45, who have scored only 14 goals this term, with his 'little changes'

I'll reserve judgement until a firm test is put in front of him, seeing as we've already won away at Spurs and Arsenal with Robbie at the helm this season!
