Our transfer policy - or lack of

Featured Replies

Who is in charge of this??

For quite some time, it's obviously not been under the managers control.

Who let both Essien and Merieles leave of the last day of the transfer window?

Who targeted and signed Oscar, Hazard, and Dave the right-back.

Who decided to leave the club with 1 forward over the Christmas period by agreeing terms and allowing Sturridge leave for £12M and who decided to pay him a reported Â£1.5M  to leave? Is there any sell-on fee tied in?

We are being linked with Villa for the same £12m, the Barca forward who is returning from injury and is 31, while reportedly releasing Lampard and Cole in either January or the summer because they are over 30, while also allowing Ferrerer stay at the club, also over 30 and allowing Malouda to rot and train with the youth team.

Why not negotiate contract renewals with the senior players rather than just letting them leave or letting their contracts expire?

Who is making these decisions? Somone at the club? or a possibley the potential manager we already have lined up?

Or our interim, who's ''interim'' title will de dropped in the summer when its made permanant?

There seem to be very mixed statements from the club regarding our transfer policy

You have to suspect that those responsible for transfer policy are the same ones who thought it was a good idea to appoint you know who as interim manager with Bolo Zenden as his number two.

The same lunatics in charge of the same asylum.

A lot of your criticisms contain the word 'reportedly' so not sure if you can use those as ammunition just yet. Stick to the past barmy decisions, like focusing on a world class starting 11 and far too few capable squad players.

I am sick of it to be honest. We are letting Sturridge go and we clearly don't have a replacement for him, the people in charge are just assuming someone will be coming in. Idiots the lot of them, i can do a better job than them.

Clearly? Assuming? I take it you speak to those in charge regularly then....

As for the policy, I thought it was common knowledge that we have a panel who make all the decisions, very much like its done in spain and italy etc.

On a more serious note, panel or not, dwk, behind it there's someone pulling the strings and paying the wages and when you're in that situation it's often in your interests not to argue no matter how much you think the man with the cheque book is talking out of his ass.

only in relation to Sturridges payment and the link with David Villa, the rest as someone might say ''issssh fhacts''

Neither Lampard, Cole or the club have rubbished rumours about them leaving in the summer or January, the club have even stated they would not be offering them new contracts! Blurted out by Rafa in one of his first interviews! - Nothing has changed on that front as far as I'm aware!

Yeah i do . Seriously though i probably got a bit carried away, but it's mainly because i have that fear that we will play the rest of the season with only 1 striker.

Scott, I've noticed a couple of your posts this afternoon... you really sound like you're having a peed off day today matey.

(Not that I disagree with you though!)

Yeah a bit, it's mainly because all we hear about is players going out but no clear signs of anyone coming in.

I've cheered up a bit now, this apple crumble i am eating helps

You're a Blue after my own heart - comfort food is generally the answer to peed off days!

no matter how inept our board appears at times, theres no way in hell theyll let this happen

now, whether they think signing a couple of scrubs (gomis, remy, walcott . . .) just for the sake of depth will be enough to fix the striker issue remains to be seen

9 managers in 9 years

signing some great talent and letting it go for a song or a loan

signing some rubbish talent for over inflated fees and keeping faith no matter what

10 major trophies

in the tabloid press for the wrong reasons every season

what a bloody Circus we support

I've put on 8 stone since Rafa took over!!

Surely we're going to be getting a new striker in January, all our signings in the summer were good and the Lampard/Cole situation isn't finalized yet.

People defend our board by pointing to trophies and saying it works, but I feel thst we would have won a lot more with stability. If jose was still hete for example we would have won the pl at least 5-6 times and probably a couple of cl

I believe we have become more disciplined in our transfer policy compared to a few seasons ago. We now appear to be on the right track as we are signing young players with tremendous potential e.g. Hazard, Oscar, De Bruyne, Marin etc. It gives us not only quality but also youth.

We are in dire need of a world class striker who should be signed before the January window closes.

I think we've signed very well this season. We've spent quite a lot of money but considering the talent and youth of the players we've brought in I wouldn't say we've overspent at all. We might even have captured one of two bargains along the way.

The only mistake we've made is to gamble on Torres suddenly turning back into a good CF after several years of stagnation, and I'm pretty sure who was responsible for that decision (I can't imagine the same people who brought Hazard, Oscar, Azpilicueta and Moses to the club being so oblivious to Torres's limitations).

As for Sturridge, I don't think we have much choice there. He's clearly desperate for starts as a CF and he has not been getting them here (whether that is the fault of the last few Chelsea managers or an overbearing owner I have no idea). It make sense financially to sell him now rather than to let him run him contract down and leave for nothing.

I think the majority of people agree that we desperately need to sign at least one more CF. What will be interesting to me is if we go for somebody like Falcao who will likely displace Torres as first choice striker, or we go for a lesser-player (Walcott?) to be a backup/squad player (i.e. a Sturridge replacement).

The transfer policy is determined by 2 giant vats, one of alphabet soup, the other of number soup

Oh how we laughed when we were going to sign KMDTJNS for 9,875,863,155

Oh how we laughed when we were going to sign TORRES for 50,000,000

That could be classed as being greedy but i kinda agree. I think with stability we could have gone on to dominate the world of football. With Mourinho in charge it was looking very likely that we could, we look far from that right now.

People go on about how good Barcelona are now, but i honestly think if we had stability we could easily have done the same.

This years policy has been to bring the wage bill down whilst bringing in younger players with more flair - that way we can get under the Uefa Rules

So that has included lukaku, Wallace, de Byrne, Oscar etc"....coming in

Whilst letting many of the big earners go"........that sort of makes sense, untiL we add in malouda, benayoun, Sturridge etc which don't quite make sense - although DS obviously wants to be c-f and probably NW based

No doubt at all that we will bring in couple players at least, my money is on David villa on loan who would be perfect for our players and system

Oh and probably fellaine as an enforcer

To be honest, I doubt anyone was complaining about our 'lack of a transfer policy' when we playing sexy football at the start of the season with Hazard, Oscar and Mata  ripping through teams. I do wish we would dip into the youth squad though, Billy Clifford has been deserving of a chance for 2 years now.
