Lukaku to Everton

Featured Replies

Completely serious, hence why he got picked for the majority of the matches.

There were plenty of occasions where his touch and hold-up play was really poor, but for the most part his link up play was decent, especially considering how little of the ball our strikers saw last season. I won't argue that Ba and Sturridge were more confident, and were better finishers, but Torres' movement opened defences up for our midfielders.

Ba's hold up play allowed us to mix it up a bit with a big punt up the middle, something Torres couldn't offer, but his positioning actually narrowed our attack. He could hold off defenders well, but he was easy to mark, and rarely upset an opposition's defensive shape.

Far from elite strikers any of them, but Torres was the best we had last season.

He went SIX MONTHS without a premier league goal from December onwards.

I also don't see how you considered his positioning to be good. I thought he was playing right wing for large parts of last season.

I don't see what any of our current front three have done to be first choice, so all should get equal chances even Torres if he is not sold.

How is it you somehow end up in every single thread, arguing about Torres?

Torres will more than likely be at Chelsea next season and will probably even start the season as our first choice striker. I can't see us making any major striker signing and I wouldn't be overly bothered if we didn't. He will more than likely flop and make way for Lukaku, which I think is a good thing anyway.

Why would Torres start as first choice striker, we keep going in circles - Fernando José Torres Sanz has scored 15 GOALS in EIGHTY TWO MATCHES IN THE EPL. That's less goals than Ba had in the EPL last season; less than Lukaku had in the EPL last season, if we start another season with Torres as "first choice" we might as well not turn up.

Since Ba moved to Chelsea he has played 11 EPL games and scored 2 EPL goals for Chelsea. What exactly is your point? We can sit here and argue all day about statistics, but for me Torres still offers a lot more on the pitch than Ba does.

Do you know how many goals Torres scored in his first 11 matches in the EPL for us?

How is that relevant? We are comparing last season's Torres to last season's Demba Ba and who brought more to the team last season. We all know how bad 2011/2012 season was for Torres. I am simply stating that in my opinion, the form Torres has coming off the back of last season and the Confederations Cup would make him a better choice striker than Demba Ba.

Nope, what I've said is that in two and a half years Torres has done NOTHING to warrant to be first choice at our club, the only reason he has been starting is that every time a manager realizes he is not good enough the manager is sacked.

I've not claimed that Ba has done enough to be first choice or Lukaku for that matter - what I've said in this thread is that there should be no favorites between these 3 players(although I personally prefer Lukaku getting more chances than Ba and Torres)

Torres will be the main striker because he cost 50 million and is one of the highest earners at the club. Thats a crap reason but thats the reason. Thats why it would be best to ship him out. Let players get picked on form not salary.

Glad to see that I'm not the only of tired of him constantly being hailed as the new Drogba. The boy is keen to create his own legacy as Romelu Lukaku. Nice to see him keeping in touch with Drogba as well.

The boys barely played for us and he is already a bit of a fans favourite. I don't really compare him to Drogba personally, I think the boy has a style of his own and I'm actually quite excited to see him play for us this season.

He has a strength and directness that we lacked at times last season and I'm hoping he could really be a surprise package for us.

He looks unstoppable in a Drogbaesque way. And the comparison albeit a shallow one is due to the fact that A. hes big, B. hes black and C. we are all pinning hopes on him to do for us what Drogba did.

If anything he's got a lot more muscle than Drogba, and should be even more physical!! I absolutely loved seeing him barge Carjacker to the ground last season and run on to score.

A powerhouse in the making, if he can stay in peak fitness and keep developing.

Can he develop the silky Drogba touch and flair though? Time will tell..

What made Drogba special was not his power or skill, it was that we could always count on him in finals and when we really needed him. I hope Lukaku can become a player like that for us.

The big man for the big occasion.

Drogba's hold up play; passing; technique and awareness is what made him stand out - even in his first season he made it a lot easier for Lampard; Robben; Duff J.Cole to play around him. Lukaku is a strong player but very rarely see him keep the ball the way Drogba could till Lamps got into position. He could also make a pinpoint cross from the wing which Lukaku can't really do.

But Lukaku is young and some of these things will be improved overtime if he continues to play regularly as he did at West Brom - also I have no doubt that Lukaku will be both our strongest and one of the fastest players in the squad. I think Lukaku will make it easier for Mata; KdB; Hazard; Oscar; Schürrle etc just his physic demands a few players to be very close to him.

Lets be honest he cant do any worse than Torres does week in week out!

I think when people see Lukaku playing with our wizards behind him, we might come to the opinion that no additional forward signing - I hope he makes enough an impact for Jose to feel the same way. It might be early but honestly I don't see much better alternatives out there with Cavani; Falcao; Lewa all being out of the question and Looney; Suarez etc

The only player who I would seriously look at is Zlatan, just to ensure we win the League this season with Lukaku as back up

also I have no doubt that Lukaku will be both our strongest and one of the fastest players in the squad.

hes probably the strongest player in the league already

I think I saw a list of the heaviest players in the EPL and Lukaku was top by quite a few KG's, and the next 8-9 people were goalkeepers and centre backs anyway.

Well that's not really true, he's done that quite a few times at West Brom and I remember one of them resulting in a very good goal.

he also got an assist at home against blackburn on the final day of the 12 season, with a quality cross.

Speaking of Lukaku. its strange what people see....On BLUE FLAG lots are saying that he ll never be up to much for us...I know its too early to tell but im sure as hell getting nervous about our striker situation
