Oscar - Little Diamond

Featured Replies

He has not had a summer off in last 3 seasons and is not going to get this summer off as either. We should send him away on an extended break till around october in the coming season and see if he plays consistently.

Also the extra defensive work put on him due to inadequacies of Fabregas and JT need to be redistributed. He should play as a proper no10 rather than a no8 he currently has become. Always plays better for Brazil than for Chelsea.

He's not the only player though.

He has been rested several times this season but it hasn't really helped at all.

Brazil is the only team that has been so over worked and all their players have been crap baring Neymar and Silva. Spain comes close to this schedule and see what has happened to them.

I donth think he has been given any time off, he has been dropped a few times though. He needs a push sure, but he needs a souple of months off too. Maybe throwing in Baker into his spot for an extended amount of time will do the trick for both players.

Any news on Oscar?

Had no idea he was suffering until I saw the slow motion GIF, he looked totally out of it.

Thought he done great until he was subbed, really caused Arse no end of problems with his movement.

Forgive my ignorance, but does the fact that Oscar had already played the ball (quite well I might add) make a difference to whether or not it counts as a foul?

Presumably considering it looked like the ball was going in (if not for an excellent clearance from Bellerin) the ref had to play advantage, at which point he could hardly pull it back and give the penalty. Admittedly this decision had to be taken very quickly.

Gorgeous ball from Fabregas though!

Not sure.

It could be argued if the keeper didn't flatten him then Oscar could hav carried on and put it into the back of the net.

I can't see how it's not a penalty though, I mean he was taken out and left concussed while the keeper took nothing of the ball.

I think that the ref is entitled to play advantage to see if the goal bound effort is likely to go in but as soon as Bellerin gets near it surely any advantage is lost.

I'm just not sure how such a ferocious challenge cannot be punished.

I think the advantage has to be immediate; the rules say the referee has to decide whether or not to penalise the original offence "within a few seconds" although I suppose that is purposefully vague. Presumably the ref decided that once the chip had been made the advantage had been taken.

I think it would set a dangerous precedent if they waited for us to score before pulling play back for a penalty. Then again I imagine this is one of those situations where 10 people are going to have 10 completely different interpretations.

But even after playing advantage a ref can go back to the incident and dish out any punishments needed.

I refuse to believe that Oliver, had he seen the clash properly, didn't think it warranted at least a yellow.

Been cleared to play Wednesday apparently.

Clearly wasn't a concussion in that case.

I think it was precaution as much as anything why he was taken off.

Good news he will be available though as he's been playing well the last few weeks.

Deserves credit for doing well in an unfamiliar position yesterday. Made sensible, busy runs and should've got a penalty after an impressive run on Cesc's ball. Good on him.

We were much more of a threat with Oscar up front than we have been for a while.

The false 9 thing worked a treat yesterday and we looked the far more likely team to win while he was on the pitch.

Agreed with both posts above.

I've slated Oscar for a while now but he was great yesterday in that role and we looked a far more potent force when he was on the pitch.

I'd go with the same if Remy and Costa are not available for wed.

I agree that he played well, but I don't think he was playing as a false 9. He did the job of a centre forward and did it well, he was playing off the shoulder of Koscielny more or less throughout.

I think its much the same as what happens when an attacker gets tackled after a shot. Even though he is inside the box the defender never gets anything for coming in late. If the same thing happened after a pass its a guaranteed yellow and a freekick

That's true, unless you gain an advantage from it, in which case the referee will allow play to continue. I don't think it was entirely unfair to give the advantage considering the ball was heading into the net when the ref would have given the penalty. I remember being absolutely scandalised when Skrtel(?) won a penalty for Liverpool against us during that Champions League 4-4, being pulled down but already having taken the shot (he skied it).

I wouldn't mind hearing from an expert on this though; do we have any youth refs or anything on the forum?

Did Jose say he's cleared to play? I saw this one on the BBC website:

"Everybody will travel to Leicester, even the ones who are not able to play," Mourinho tells the media.
