February 11, 201511 yr This picture sums my thought process. Either the referee saw the incident, and therefore no further action can be taken - or, the referee needs to be firmly disciplined for not being able to see an incident which is probably 6 and 3/4 inches away from his face. Not even a media frenzy can get a charge out of this one. Edited February 11, 201511 yr by Zola's Love Child

February 11, 201511 yr Apologies if I'm wrong but couldn't Ivanovic have been booked for that and the ref missed the butt? Might come down to the refs report. With the FA - you could well be right Either way it does look like Bran wasn't booked - but I'm struggling to buy an argument (which would be what the referee was saying if a charge is laid) that he missed the incident.
February 11, 201511 yr Apologies if I'm wrong but couldn't Ivanovic have been booked for that and the ref missed the butt? Might come down to the refs report. For God sake, there was no headbutt. Literally no headbutt. None. Whatsoever. Headbutt? There was none. No headbutt was there. A headbutt I did not see. Twas a glorious night at Stamford Bridge as the stars sparkled in the sky and on the pitch, but Hark, what is this I see before me? A headbutt? No, because there f**king wasn't one.

Need to see it again. Personally I think if the ref sees the head go towards Mcarthy then its a red but that's only because I've seen it given before. It's not a big Dunc special by any means but what is he doing moving his head like that. Why f**king bother?

Not even a media frenzy can get a charge out of this one. That picture is so misleading. Ivanovic goes to pull McCarthy away because McCarthy is trying to start something. Ivanovic's arm is across his neck for about a half a second. All he was doing was pulling him away. This picture makes it look like he was trying to strangle him to death, i hate the media.
February 12, 201511 yr Absolute mountain out of a molehill. There was no butt. And as for allegations of biting.... words fail me.
February 12, 201511 yr Oh now Ivanovic allegedly tried to bite him, as per the daily mail http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2949799/Branislav-Ivanovic-face-ban-Chelsea-defender-aims-attempted-headbutt-headlock-James-McCarthy.html Im waiting for them to photoshop a knife into his hands too.
February 12, 201511 yr Someone like Rob Savage has no right to accuse anyone of violent conduct, amazed someone would pay him to talk on TV.
February 12, 201511 yr Apologies if I'm wrong but couldn't Ivanovic have been booked for that and the ref missed the butt? Might come down to the refs report. How can anyone possibly miss that big butt. Ivan the man, with the big butt and an even bigger heart. On a serious note, it was nothing really.
February 12, 201511 yr Ivanovich wouldnt bite McCarthy. No foreigner intentionally eats British cuisine
February 12, 201511 yr the referee needs to be firmly disciplined for not being able to see an incident which is probably 6 and 3/4 inches away from his face. Sterling reached around a linesman to swipe at another player and nothing happened to him so.

February 12, 201511 yr Did Charlie Adams get anything for this WWF move? If he is a chelsea player "yes" he has to be banned!!!! If not a chelsea player "no" simple!!

Just watched MOTD and when Ivanovich does the move that caused the fuss, the ref isn't look in his direction at all. He's literally looking in the opposite direction so there is a case for the FA to ask him if he actually saw that incident I think. The thing is it's undeniable that he moves his head towards McCarthy and that's what's so stupid about it. First the grab is totally unnecessary and deserves a booking but he's then got him away from the incident and wrapped up tightly, so why then go with the head? It's not a headbutt but he definitely moves the head and the stupidity of doing that means I'd find it hard to have sympathy with him getting a ban.
February 12, 201511 yr Players put their barnets in other players every week and NOTHING happens. If the FA even need to declare that they aren't taking any action it will already have become ridiculous.
February 12, 201511 yr Players put their barnets in other players every week and NOTHING happens. If the FA even need to declare that they aren't taking any action it will already have become ridiculous. Oh come on. It's hardly that common. I know there's this perceived agenda (although a lot of commentators have said it doesn't warrant a ban) but to suggest that what Ivanovic did occurs every week is a bit disingenuous. It's not a headbutt, but let's just say for a moment that Jose actually believes there's a FA agenda and let's just say that he's either mentioned it to his players or that one of his most senior players is capable of reading a newspaper or putting SSN on.....why the f**k do you even give them an excuse? What exactly is Ivanovic trying to achieve with that motion of the head? The bite accusations seem to be far-fetched although I've seen journos say it's social media fluff, but to me this is one of those incidents where if it's Steve G or Joey Barton then a few more people on here perhaps acknowledge it could be misconstrued.
February 12, 201511 yr Players put their heads against each after big crunching tackles or just when they are wound up, if you watch football regularly you will see this happening regularly. The arm around the neck doesn't look great in photos, but it reality its nothing. The whole thing is a non event. Edited February 12, 201511 yr by Zola
February 12, 201511 yr If the FA takes action, I can see Jose Mourinho going on blackout for the rest of the season in PL. Rightfully so. Absolute campaign against us.. even for the things that aren't much severe. A lot of players get away from even more severe incidences like this. And for the allegation of biting.... my god... bless these reporters.
February 12, 201511 yr Players put their heads against each after big crunching tackles or just when they are wound up, if you watch football regularly you will see this happening regularly. The arm around the neck doesn't look great in photos, but it reality its nothing. The whole thing is a non event. I watch live football very regularly and what you seem to be describing is players squaring up to one another, in something akin to two water buffalos facing off in a David Attenborough (a very fine Attenborough, but not quite the finest) documentary. What Ivanovic did was different. They weren't squaring up, in fact McCarthy is turned away from Ivanovic so when he does move his head forwards, any contact is with the back of his head. So quite different from what you're describing no? If the FA takes action, I can see Jose Mourinho going on blackout for the rest of the season in PL. Rightfully so. Absolute campaign against us.. even for the things that aren't much severe. A lot of players get away from even more severe incidences like this. And for the allegation of biting.... my god... bless these reporters. The biting allegations seem to have surfaced on Twitter and as for this campaign, most of the commentators seem to have said it was something of nothing.
February 12, 201511 yr Indeed. The only people getting themselves into a lather over nothing are on here. Go to the BBC sport main page - no mention of it at all. Edited February 12, 201511 yr by Crem
February 12, 201511 yr Turn on Sky Sports News and you will see plenty of mentions of it....Or you would have done earlier this morning.
February 12, 201511 yr Someone's comment on The Independent: Did Ivanovic try to kill McCarthy? It is alleged that the defender could have planned to murder McCarthy, in an evil, premeditated plot. It is clear the foes have a history of antagonism, having played against each other on a number of accasions.Reports suggest Ivanovic was seen ajusting his shirt sleeves, after McCarthy's arrival on the pitch, possibly feeling for a hidden weapon. It is reported that, this could have been a small firearm, knife or cosh, as the Chelsea defender appears to have been unusually muscular yesterday evening. The vile hatred which led ivanovic to this action came, according to sources close to Stamford Bridge insiders, stems from the fact that McCarthy once, allegedly blew Ivanovic a kiss, in an earlier encounter and as Serbs are all known to be macho homophobes, this, it is thought, could have turned the Chelsea man into an enraged, sadistic and dangerous psychopath.
