February 12, 201511 yr The FA are looking at it and he wasn't booked. Think it could go either way but he definitely moves his head towards him so a ban is probably likely.

Tim Howard did the exact same thing at the start of the season when we played Everton at Goodison, can't remember if he did it to Costa or Dave and Joe Hart did the same thing, again more aggressively than Ivanovic did when Manchester City played away to Hull. On both occasions I am fairly sure the referees did not see the incidents and no retrospective punishment was made. I would be very surprised personally if Ivanovic faced retrospective punishment especially when the referee and 4th official were right on top of the melee.

Looked like he squared up to Azpi I think. The ref clearly doesn't see the Ivanovic incident either.

Howard learns his head in (skip to 3:28): http://youtu.be/AWA3nUeeRPU Okay ref sees it but decides not to take any action. Don't know if the ref saw the Joe Hart one against Hull but that's two instances of a similar "offence" I can think off the top of my head from this season where no punishment was dished out... I don't see why it should be any different with Ivanovic. Edited February 12, 201511 yr by ForeverCarefree
February 12, 201511 yr Yahoo's headline: "Astonishing headbutt photos shame Chelsea man.." "An astonishing headbutt attempt amid ugly scenes even involved teeth, says our reporter."

I don't see why it should be any different with Ivanovic. Fine margins. Think there's a difference between squaring up even as Howard does and doing what Ivanovic does. Think about if that happens to you in the pitch. If Howard had gone for that I think it could've been deserved although slightly harsh. Ref deals with it though and it's his interpretation that will decide it I think. And as I said I thought he was very fair so will take whatever judgement he makes on the chin. Think too many people are quick to whine about injustice when they should use that to fuel their passions in the next game. Far more useful uses of frustration.

I don't see squaring up, Howard initiates the confrontation and Dave backs away, it's just as, if not more, aggressive that what Ivanovic did last night. If the Howard incident, right under the officials nose, is not deemed worthy of a booking then considering the similarities I just don't see how an argument can be made that Ivanovic should been given a retrospective ban. One incident can't be a non bookable one, not even a yellow card and the other can't logically be deemed as violent conduct that if "seen" would have been a red card during the match. I have faith that the referee will agree that it was not worthy of a booking or retrospective punishment.
February 12, 201511 yr So he was probably trying to push the guy's hand off his throat with his chin. Outrageous behaviour, he could have damaged the guy's little finger. 10 match ban
February 12, 201511 yr For one reason or another I listened into the match last night on the radio and it wasn't mentioned by the commentary... then listen to Talksh*t* and five live this morning on the way to work and I assumed that Ivanovich had clashed with the bloke and stuck his head in like a lot of players do, some get punished some don’t, luck of the draw etc which you live with right ? Just watched the clip for the first time ...... and watched, and checked again make sure it was the incident they were talking about... tried some other websites incase sky had posted the wrong clip.....nope it seems to be the incident that has made football headlines today !! Not bloody surprised that Jose donsn't want to comment.

February 12, 201511 yr Anyone saying Howard's was just a squaring up is talking utter garbage. He charged in and put his head into Dave's the who wasn't even talking to him. Its the same, if not worse than ivanovics one.

February 12, 201511 yr See, he's just hugging him. Valentine's Day is just around the corner. I'm feeling the love already.
February 12, 201511 yr Didn't he do the same to Costa in the 6-3 game when hazard forced that Coleman own goalYep, after Costa had the temerity to tell Coleman, who had been booting him up and down the pitch, to f**king have that. In Spanish, obviously.
February 12, 201511 yr I guess the picture above proves everything. He did not bite him. The FA will ignore that picture. As will all the media outlets.
February 12, 201511 yr The ref had a reasonably good game yesterday, I'm counting on him saying he saw the incident and it was handbags, so he didn't take action...Am I being naïve ?
February 12, 201511 yr There's surely a campaign against us! This is getting beyond a joke and I can't blame Jose for being utterly pissed off by the media's constant antics towards our club! What next Ivan's up for attempted murder charges!
February 12, 201511 yr This picture is trying to make Ivanovic look like the bad guy but it's John Stones who has his hands around Ivanovic's neck
February 12, 201511 yr Everyone loves our players, they just needed an Ivanovic sandwich. I don't see what the fuss is, I thought he bent his head in, not a butt as one doesn't butt the neck surely? Have I missed something?
February 12, 201511 yr should not be banned. if he is the FA really are taking the piss, the ref saw it. however I don't think the ref saw Stones (I think it was him) grab ivanovic from behind with his arm around his neck, mind you if the ref didn't see it nor will the FA that's the way it works against us hey!
