Happy Anniversary

Featured Replies

If there are any non-Chelsea fans reading this then I'd just like to wish you a happy 10th year anniversary of saying "what are you going to do when your Russian Sugar Daddy gets bored of his play thing?"

Here is to the next ten years of you using this tired old regurgitated line.....whilst crying.

Never tiring of saying the same, sh*t line for 10 YEARS......imagine!

I saw it on teletext as well! :happy001:

I was visiting my mom and she didn't have an internet connection back then, so I used to read sports news on the teletext quite a bit when I was there.

I was playing football in the garden and my Dad, a Middlesbrough fan, said 'Chelsea have a new billionaire owner and he's a crook. But you're going to win the premier league soon enough'.

Not quite the 10 year anniversary yet - wasn't it the 1st July?

Oh and teletext for me too! Came back from football 5 a side about 11pm and there it was, first thoughts were 'who the hell...'

I saw it on the ticker at the bottom of sky sports news..I said to my Husband "Bates has just sold us to a Russian Gangster"...

Happy days indeed...!

Oh and the other old tired lines from opposition fans like if we spend money its cos we earned it and have a right to. Had this one from a gooner the other day until i informed him that of course our annual turnover was indeed higher than theres so we infact earn more money than they do.....the difference being our owner is happy putting that money back in by way of wages/transfers and the result....trophies.

Were as there shareholders take a nice premium at the end of the season.

Another tired old line was once you have won the CL he'll get bored but here we are CL in the bag, 10yrs coming up and wait a minute Jose is back while RA and CFC are looking hungrier than ever. ::MooNeY::

That must really hurt the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool hahahahahahahaha.

I was on a vacation / holiday, it was actually the first day of holiday, I just arrived and read about it in the newspaper. I was like "damn, right on the first day, now I have to wait a couple of weeks to brag around to friends" :D

That always makes me laugh from Gooners.  Where were you before Abramovich?  Top four in the Premier League thanks.....the position you regard as a trophy.  Oh, and while we're on the subject, didn't Arsenal win absolutely nothing for the first 44 years of their existence?  Then a dubious businessman named Henry Norris began to financially invest in the club and waddayaknow?  Three league titles on the spin under Herbert Chapman.  They were a just a sh!tty little South London club before they started investing properly.  Something akin to Charlton Athletic.

Exactly, ask one of them about Herbert Chapman and they have no idea. Football has alway's been about the have's and the have nots. It aint rocket science.....have money-buy good players-win matches/trophies.

Everton were another side who won a load of trophies after being financially backed. Liverpool in the 80's were owned by one of the richest families in Britain but they all seem to think when they spent there money it was different or somehow 'allowed'.

Deluded jealous twats.

The same is true of Liverpool. In the 50s they were no-marks who were about to get relegated from the old second division. After being bought out, purchasing an entire new squad and poaching Bill Shankly from Huddersfield things were a little rosier.

Norris also bought them a place in the First Division, despite Arsenal only finishing 5th in Division 2 that year. The only current top flight club who didn't earn their place on footballing merit. He then had them up sticks and move to a totally different part of London, along with changing their name a few times. More akin to MK Dons...

Most successful football clubs have a wealthy backer or had one at some point to get them started (Moores at Liverpool and Everton, the Agnellis at Juventus etc). Even the likes of Man U and Arsenal have benefited from rich investors in the past, despite their fans imagining that they were built up from nothing with just honest toil and sweat.

I was managing a pub at the time, so was at work, and woke up to a text from a mate telling me.  I remember on the old site there was actually quite a bit of murmuring about us being bought with someone with loads of Oil Money, so a load of us were expecting the new owner to come from the middle east....not this dodgy Russian Crook!  Thanks Roman.

I remember my dad telling me - at the time I just couldn't fathom how much impact it would have on the club right away. Amazing!

I remember hearing about this at work and I was one of those, at the time, who trotted out the 'Who's he? What does he know about football? He'll get bored soon...' stuff. Thinking back, I don't think that fans of other teams knew what to make of it.

Looking back, even bearing in mind the huge amount of money CFC fans knew he'd bring, were any Shedenders concerned, at the time?

P.s. hands up - I was wrong.....:-)

I must admit I was a bit worried - I think because of all the uncertainty there had been about the ownership of the ground etc in the past, I was worried he was just a businessman looking to screw the assets out of Chelsea in whatever way he could.  (and, before anyone says it, I know it was illogical because of CPO - but I never claimed to be logical!).
