Former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo says he is ready to return to football.

He was unceremoniously sacked by Roman Abramovich last season with the Blues on the verge of Champions League elimination.

Fan favourite Di Matteo was controversially replaced by Rafa Benitez - someone who many Chelsea supporters did not want in charge.

Now, in a wide-ranging interview with France Football, he has spoken about his relationship with Abramovich and his future plans.

'Beyond football, the boss (Roman) is a nice person with whom you can be good. I am in no way angry at the boss,' explained Di Matteo.

'I'm proud of what I did at Chelsea, the footprint I left with people, the club and some players.'

He was sacked after a crushing Champions League defeat to Juventus, in which he dropped striker Fernando Torres and played Eden Hazard out-of-position up front.

When asked if he thinks he would return to football within a year, Di Matteo said: 'Yeah, I really do. I'm ready. I'm ready. For a good project.'

He also says he decided not to join Paris-St-Germain this summer after considering moving to the club.

The 43-year-old explained: 'We reached a point when I had to think to reply yes or no. PSG made an excellent choice with Laurent Blanc. The Parisian project is very exciting.'

Glad to hear he turned down PSG, no sense in going there only to be booted out once they settle on their long term target.

Hope he gets a good club sooner rather than later, would love to see him managing in England.

Agreed PK. If he was in the running for a job like that, he is probably going to end up somewhere halfway decent.

But wow, I would've loved to have seen him at PSG. The Ligue 1 title would've gone to him or Claudio.

I also would have liked to see him get the job. It would have been a nice step forward and helped him make a bigger name for himself. PSG has to be the easiest job out there right now. Im a bit surprised he turned it down to be honest. Over in England he would only get a job with the likes of Norwich or Sunderland. No one in the top 5 will give him a job just yet.

I find it very hard to believe he was offered and turned down the PSG job.

Hope he's back in work soon though, it will be interesting to see how he does. Bizarrely for a manager with the Champions League on his CV, he's still got it all to prove as a manager.

'I'm proud of what I did at Chelsea, the footprint I left with people, the club and some players.'

"Some Players".........mmmm, I'd like to truly understand that comment.

Good luck to him whatever he does/wherever he goes.

When I saw your name, I assumed you were going to rechristen him Emperor Roberto!

he deserves to be in the prem, or back in Italy with a top Serie A club. will always get the reception he deserves whenever he comes back to the Bridge

One Di Matteo, there's only one Di Matteo! I would still love to have that chant at some point in the future. He is my favourite Chelsea manager and I hope he does well wherever he goes.

Proper Chelsea man and deserved better. Gave us the best footballing moment in our history and a good excuse to get drunk, as if i needed one. Just hope if he gets a job in England its not at a club I hate. Carefree Robbie!
