Featured Replies

Just back from Prague and whilst walking through the Old Town Square yesterday who happened to be walking towards us but Marcel Desailly, a couple of the guys said hi marcel how about a couple of pics ? ... his reaction was to totally blank us and even after the last final plead for a pic he turned around and waved after getting about 20 m away ... He has totally went down in everyone who was theres estimations ... we know these guys get pestered a lot and i fully appreciate this but even if he had acknowledged and said sorry guys then that wouldve been accepted .. but to stare ahead like he was in a trance he was just being an ignorant cock of the highest order ... sad end to a great weekend ... rant over

Its sad when this kind of thing happens. Its often said that you should never meet your heroes and you will only be disappointed.

it is sad.

Sometimes however we don't always know the full story. He may have been in a rush, in a genuinely bad mood etc... These people are Human afterall, i'm sure there are many stories of him being very affectionate towards chelsea fans and he is a definate supporter of ours.

A shame he couldnt of quickly popped over for a pic. a good player for us but for you lads i'm sure his now tainted a bit in your eyes.

He wasn't thought too highly of when he was hear I seem to recall. He never spoke to any of the youth players, just blanked them mostly. Arrogance is not very becoming and being French he's bound to be even more arrogant than your average footballer.

Ha, I was wearing my Desailly shirt in Prague, would've been nice to spot the man.

Had a similar thing happen to me when i met Petr Cech in a London hotel the night before Arsenal away a few years ago.

On the other hand Ive met Owen, Scholes and Sol Campbell on 3 separate occasions in Portugal and all were very friendly

That's because nobody ever talks to them.

my mate who is a villan met lamps and bleak in donnelly's in san an ibiza. 'i'm on too many drugs! i need to talk to frank!' was his approach and he ended up spending a few hours having cocktails and having pictures taken with them!

I met a few players on a holiday to Lanzarote about 10-12 years back.  Mixed stories.

Me and my kid brother were both in our Chelsea shirts, and as we get through to baggage reclaim, and a bloke shouted out to of - "Oh, your team's just landed!', and we walked on, not knowing what he was talking about.  We got to the carrousel, and low and behold the whole Chelsea team was picking up their bags.  Naturally, we went straight over to Franco and me and my brother got pictures with him, after my Dad has fumbled around trying to find the camera for 2/3 minutes (and ended up getting rubbish blurry photos from the rush - but that's not the point).  He was all smiles and didn't rush us away or anything, and ended being a little bit behind the group, and had to jog off to catch up with the rest of the squad.

A few days later, we went to Lineker's for a game of pool and a glass of pop at lunch, and low and behold JT, Jon Harley and Leon Knight were all having a beer on the terrace in the sun - and obviously asked them for a photo with the three of them, and as we'd had some crap photos with Franco, my Dad went overboard and took 4/5 pictures to make sure we got a good one, and all I can remember is JT saying to Harley "bloody hell, how many photos does this bloke want?!".  Obviously he must've just been just joking around, but it did leave a bit of a sour taste to the memory - that said they must've been 19/20 years old and had a couple of beers, and were willing to let us take photos - but it's easy to tarnish a idol's status with one chance comment/meeting.

Sorry to read this. I actually had a beer with Desailly after the 2007 FA Cup final. I've got a good mate (huge Chelsea fan) who works for the BBC and he got me into an after-match function. He was really friendly and approachable and always said 'we' when talking about Chelsea. I suppose it was a bit of a different situation to seeing someone in the street, but it's sad he couldn't have stopped for a photo.

Desailly was a great for ac Milan, not for chelsea

As regards his legend status at Chelsea and Milan, I think the Brit's point is a fair one. He was an awesome signing for us and an absolute world class player, but he rarely reached the peak of his powers in a Chelsea shirt. What proved that to me was the display he gave in the 0-0 CL home leg v Milan when he raised his game to another level, suggesting he was guilty of underperforming for a lot of his time with us.

I think he was brilliant for JT, though.

Was just a little disappointing tbh ... couple of the guys have met Zola, JT etc and said they couldnt have been any happier to have their pics taken ... Marcel on the otherhand was happily chattin to his mate coming towards us until he was aked for a pic then went into trance and walked on only waving when he got a fair distance away .. he probably heard a few of the choice words at that time as well lol

At least you were blanked by one of the greatest defenders to have ever lived, I was blanked once by Michael Duberry who was on a par with Titus Bramble.

Myself and Brit have always disagreed over Desailly. He had a laid back personality and I think the fact that his positioning and reading of the play was so damn good he made the art of defending easy 90% of the time. Personally I never got the feeling he wasn't giving it 100%. Got that feeling nearly every game with JFH, but not Marcel Desailly. JT has commented publically on the huge influence Desailly had on his development as a centre-back.

Agreed. He was slightly on the wane when he joined us but he was an absolutely dominant force in his pomp and formed a fantastic partnership in the heart of defense with Blanc. A very versatile and well-rounded player too, his wide range of skill perhaps never displayed better than through his powerful burst through the middle and delicate finish for the goal in the '94 final.

Very little between him and Tresor for my money.
