August 3, 20169 yr That to me is the sign of a good trooper. I love Chelsea as much as anyone; you could put the name 'twat' on the back of my shirt and I'd still proudly show up in blue. At the very worst it suggests a good sense of humour. There's an interesting double standard with certain players regarding their expectations for playing time: if you don't complain about your lack of playing time you lack ambition or are (absurdly considering he was a key part of the single greatest moment in our history) "stealing a living"; if you do complain you're a malcontent who should put in some elbow grease and prove you're worthy of a starting spot. As if anybody here has any idea of what happens in training or behind the scenes...
August 3, 20169 yr Great comments by Mikel. I love that he seems passionate about the club and has grown to love us with his longevity. He's a good depth player, but I'm always grateful for his contributions to the club regardless of the criticisms that's he received over the years.
August 3, 20169 yr Yes I concur ...........Mikel is a good squad player and a likeable guy......who loves Chelsea.

As much as they may have "talent" and "prospects" we see them in action one for 90 mins a week, sometimes twice. Managers see them up close for more than 90 mins a day, several times a week , so what right do we have to criticize his selection or rewarding a player's performances in training with either match time or a contract renewal?

August 5, 20169 yr Looks like Nigeria will go far in the Olympic football tournament. So no Mikel till late September.
August 5, 20169 yr Looks like Nigeria will go far in the Olympic football tournament. So no Mikel till late September. August. Etebo looked class, but I really like that forward up front. Had shades of Drogba, albeit he's much taller, lankier and technically not as strong. The player however that stood out for me is Rivaldo Coetzee of South Africa. Bit short, but what a defender.

He has been linked with Arsenal since last season.
August 5, 20169 yr The longer Nigeria are at the Olympics the better it is for Chelsea. Mikel loves Chelsea, I'm not suprised with the lifestyle he has.

August 5, 20169 yr Yea, different lifestyle to the rest of the squad...please. Sitting on the bench, tough life
August 5, 20169 yr Sitting on the bench, tough life Because he's sat on the bench for ten years? Hardly.
August 5, 20169 yr Because he's sat on the bench for ten years? Hardly. The majority of his Chelsea career unless of course Hiddink comes back, they sat next to each other on the coach. No other team wants him.
August 5, 20169 yr The majority of his Chelsea career unless of course Hiddink comes back, they sat next to each other on the coach. No other team wants him. Yes, he's been a substitute most of the time, but he's been a reliable squad player for ten years, that's how football works, not every player is a starter. I'm pretty sure that there are numerous teams that would buy him, but forget his wages, he does love Chelsea. The Mikel bashing on this forum is never ending, it's like this is a gooner forum or something. Edited August 5, 20169 yr by Floyd25
August 5, 20169 yr How do you know he loves Chelsea? You friends with him? Point is I would love anyone who pays me stupid wages and gives me a great lifestyle like anyone in the world would. So to give someone credit for that is abit much. I very much doubt many prem teams would sign Mikel, maybe on a freebie though. That's why he is always linked to Turkey every year.
August 6, 20169 yr The majority of his Chelsea career Why should anyone bother if you just spout off unsubstantiated crap like this.
August 6, 20169 yr Why should anyone bother if you just spout off unsubstantiated crap like this. I'm not asking anyone to bother. Anyone who thinks Mikel is a good player is there point of view, but there's a reason there in the minority,

Yea, I went clubbing with him last night. No, but I can read though and I doubt he would lie about his feelings for the club, as for his wages, as if he's the only one on high wages in the squad, don't get your point, been here ten years, the champions league final, playing his part in trophy winning campaigns, I'd hazard a guess and say maybe his love for the club stems from more than money. Your underestimating him if you think no Prem team would come in and buy him, if we wanted to sell he would have been gone a while back. Edited August 6, 20169 yr by Floyd25
August 6, 20169 yr Anyone who thinks Mikel is a good player is there point of view I'm not going to lie and say he's a great player, but your original comment was about his lifestyle, I simply feel after all these years the man deserves more respect.

I bet Mikel gets a new contract and the main reason is because Chelsea won't want to lose him on a free transfer specially after all the hassle they went through getting him. You can read what Mikel says, well his not exactly going to say horrible things is he. I would love Bieber if he gave me 60k a week. Not rocket science. Let's see if another prem league club come after Mikel.
August 6, 20169 yr I'm not going to lie and say he's a great player, but your original comment was about his lifestyle, I simply feel after all these years the man deserves more respect. For 10 years of mainly sitting on the bench, there's a reason he keeps the bench warm. The reason Mikel stays is because theres more advantages than leaving. Trophies, money, London, friends and family etc. If he wanted to earn respect he could play first team football elsewhere and prove himself. Never know he might end up like Kante.

No Mikel isn't likely to say horrible things, but he isn't likely to lie either, but lets believe that after ten years the man is using the club for the sole purpose of milking them for the most money that he can, because obviously according to you, he's an as*hole and every player in the premier league including John Terry doesn't give a sh*t about the club he plays for, just as long as he gets a good salary, that's a load of bullsh*t.

Yes, throughout the years he has kept the bench warm, he's not a starter and he's contempt on staying here, how dare he want a nice salary and trophies (which he has helped to win), how dare he want friends and family in London, obviously no other player wants these things. Obviously according to you he's never held down a place in the team (which he has) and despite ten years of service, he will apparently only earn respect from you if he has a couple of good years at west brom, forget the fact that without him, we probably wouldn't have even reached extra time in the champions league final, but let's just carry on insulting our own players like Arsenal fans.
