May 8, 201610 yr Doesn't sound like Mikel, he's a tidy safe player who calms a game down and protects the back 4.
May 8, 201610 yr I actually thought he played well. Was a bit more proactive than usual. Should have been taken off though when we were chasing the game. Didn't really understand Guus' subs

May 24, 201610 yr Not that you're a fatuous moron or anything... Defend the less-than-even-a-squad-player all you like. The reason he's still here is because he goes under the radar after being dropped after a couple of games by every new manager, and no one is dumb enough to buy him.

You needn't have bothered with any of that post except the last emoticon.
May 24, 201610 yr Got to feel sorry for someone who spends most of his time trolling about Mikel, talk about obsessed. Edited May 24, 201610 yr by Floyd25
May 24, 201610 yr I hope we do change the formation and although a Mikel fan, would not be opposed to see him leave, but let him leave with dignity and praise is all I hope, for a long time servant. It is time for rejuvenation and I am sick and tired of this 4-2-3-1 formation that we are seemingly stuck in, a return to 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 sounds good to me, our last successful strike partnership dates back to Jimmy/Eidur. Drogba/Anelka?
May 24, 201610 yr Drogba/Anelka? Thought about it, not in the same league, but yes a good partnership.
July 5, 201610 yr Annual link to a Turkish club has happened. His agent quoted as saying if he did leave it would be for first team football. I don't doubt he'll still be here next season hanging around like a bad smell.
July 5, 201610 yr I don't like Mikel, I think he's average, but as a late sub to wrap up a game he has his uses, I think his wages are minimal, and he's hella experienced, knows the club inside out, I see no harm in keeping him around
July 5, 201610 yr You'd think that a player that caused a massive transfer controversy and indirectly bankrupted his former club would be a vital member of the squad, not a bit part player that most fans would like to see gone
July 5, 201610 yr He was a kid being f**ked around by agents and the lyn director got charged with fraud But at least that dig is original I think he's average His biggest crime Edited July 5, 201610 yr by Stim
July 5, 201610 yr Awaiting the insults, if he stays next season and we lose a game, when he's been on the pitch for ten minutes.
July 6, 201610 yr He will retire at Chelsea, aside from JT, he's probably the most experienced player. Conte will pick him, just like his predecessors.
July 16, 201610 yr Supposedly Conte wants Mikel to stay: http://www.turkish-football.com/conte-wants-7-7m-chelsea-midfielder-mikel-to-stay-despite-turkish-champions-interest/
July 16, 201610 yr ok with him staying as a backup to Kante and Matic. That said if we can flog him off for 10-15m to the chinese that would be great as well.
July 16, 201610 yr No it wouldnt £15 million for Mikel would 100% be a good deal for a backup player.
July 16, 201610 yr £15 million for Mikel would 100% be a good deal for a backup player. Who would replace him for 15mil.
July 16, 201610 yr Who would replace him for 15mil.Personally don't think we necessarily need to replace him like for like. Two DM's in Kante & Matic are more than enough for one position. If you really pressed me, perhaps someone like Bender from Dortmund (they are selling Subotic for £8m after all) and I think he only has one year left on his contract.
July 16, 201610 yr As much as I would hate to see him go, £15m wouldn't be a bad deal for a backup player in the last year of his contract. I'd be interested to see how Mikel would fare if freed of his defensive shackles, next to a player like Kanté, if his focus was more on moving the ball around and probing dangerous areas, more of a Busquets role. A dynamo like Kanté could be the stick of dynamite that was missing from the Mikel-Fabregas partnership.
July 16, 201610 yr Who would replace him for 15mil. I'm sure we could find someone better than Mikel for less than £15 million to be honest. I'm sorry, but apart from the odd game here and there, i just don't see where Mikel fits. If he could perform like he did against Crystal Palace last season for the majority of his games, then we would have someone worth keeping around, but those performances are incredibly rare.
July 16, 201610 yr Luckily with the African cup of Nations and no Europe he won't play much Nigeria didn't qualify for the next AFCoN, so thats a non-starter. He will however miss the beginning of the season, as he's off to Rio.
