The John Obi Mikel Goal Scoring Thread

Featured Replies

haha "did not look nice". If you judge players based on how they react to conceding a goal or how they overall act on the pitch then they are all "crap" persons.

No they are not. Most players dont blame others for their mistakes.

Didn't make the top 10 of a list of players from an entire continent, over a span of all time

Better use this as some sort of low effort troll post.

pat yourself on the back, you've defeated an argument no one made.

Actually it was an honest question. People have said he's under-appreciated for a while now and this could be another example. If you took that to be trolling then I apologise. Would you like me to delete that post?

Apologise don't make me laugh.

Its amazong the amount of wrong statements one can make with such few words.

His birthday was yesterday, and he is fairly rated as a crap player that he is.

Stop typing rubbish and am going to start ignoring you now because it seems you are Ernie blue in disguise. Bye bye!

Mikel has been a useful squad player, every team needs players like him. It saddens me when I see the abuse Mikel gets.

Every team needs squad players but squad players can easily be replaced.

Great post

You have to ask yourself why that is though.

I actually agree that you need squad players, but why can't they be Academy graduates? Mikel is a player who seems content just to be part of the squad, no matter what he says differently. He's never moaned about gametime and that says something.

But I think the reason he divides people is because he's just an average player who has the odd good/great game, but is weirdly overrated by some.

For me, he's the type of player who should be moved on to allow a youngster (Nathan Ake who outperformed him under Benitez whenever given the chance) the chance to come through. That's not me trolling, just offering a not uncommon opinion.

Chalobah has been wasted cus our management does not have the balls to chuck mikel out. I bet the club will try to accomodate Ake at LB rather than his prefered DM role to keep mikel.

Oh the futility of trying to polish a turd...

Now you've put me in a bad mood.

Chalobah was ready in 2013 and we f**ked him. Loved watching that kid play at Watford and we went with Mikel over him - only for us to realise we had to replace Mikel with Matic in January.

Just to return the favour - Mikel will be our longest-serving player if JT leaves. Think about that for a second.

Not sure if our fans have ever treated a long time servant of the club this badly, quite shameful. I hope when he leaves people will finally show some appreciation, as for him being overrated, I've never heard that one before and surely it can't apply to a player who people think is either crap or distinctly average. Anyway, I'm bored of sticking up for the poor man.

Is it incredible for a player to make so many appearances for this club when he isn't particularly well-revered. I don't that makes it shameful but some people seem to think he is beyond criticism for whatever reason. I'm not saying that's you, but any time anyone criticises him there's a few murmurs and then that's it. Compare that to someone like Courtois or Hazard.

Maybe that's because Mikel is somewhat irrelevant. I don't know. But maybe the reason he is treated the way he is comes down to his performances for this club and nothing more.

Maybe its because everyone else gave up on this repetitive sh*t years ago

For someone so irrelevant this thread sure does get lit up a lot by people who just want to trash him. Everyone thinks Ivanovic is having a bad season but his thread doesn't get lit up nearly as much whereas Mikel gets pathetic abuse for the utter crime of being an average player. Funny how that is.

End of the day some of the crap that gets posted about him goes far beyond 'criticism'. Someone couldn't let someone say happy bloody birthday without using it as a platform for insult.

Jury's still out why people feel the need to be so vocal about their dislike of him. Maybe he offended them sometime. People are far too harsh on him for the crime of being average.

Edit: Also talking about Chalobah as if it was Mikels decision to not play him. In what world is it Mikels fault if the club decide not to sell him?

He hasn't been replaced, either by youth or in the market, our mangers have seen him as important back up during most of his career, so it doesn't surprise me that he's played so many games, whether his critics think he should have been replaced or not. I'll admit we could do better than Mikel, but until that day comes we should support him, I'm not saying don't criticise him, if he makes a mistake he deserves it, but he's been criticised all too often and I've always seen him as a scapegoat. Eden and Tibo have warranted their criticism this season, Mikel is criticised when he doesn't do anything wrong, probably why people get tired of the criticism he receives, or you heap some praise on him and people won't allow it, that's how I see it.

Ivanovic was the best rightback last season. When was Mikel ever the best DM in the league for even a month?

Its also about opportunity cost. How many young RBs or CBs have been wasted to keep Ivanovic in the team

So you rekon we create a new thread titled "How sh*t have Chelsea been to keep mikel all this time".

Maybe its because everyone else gave up on this repetitive sh*t years ago

I don't think fans necessarily dislike Mikel. He his a solid player who is within the squad, has good games and bad ones. Myself I think he has underachieved in his time here, very content with his lot. Happy to be a squad player without really pushing himself to try to achieve the next level. I can't think of any aspect of his game that he has improved in 10yrs which isn't a good statement of any professional doing their job. The time is now right for both club and player to move on.

I think you've both got a point that it's unfair. I honestly don't know why he attracts so much ire, and so little love. It's an odd one.

Because he isn't a very good player, all the Chelsea fans I know think the same, I see it on most forums and ratings for the majority of the games. When a player makes your team weaker then he obviously isn't a good player. The only manager who sees differently is Hiddink.

Will Mikel be first choice next season, doubt it. Will he sign a new contract most probably. Chelsea won't want to lose him on a free transfer. Hardly ever see any team linked to Mikel apart from Turkey and China. Be interesting to see if he does leave for first team football and who would take up the opportunity of taking him on a freebie.

I would much rather see Ake given a chance than Mikel.

We would've bought Matic whether or not we had Mikel.

Disagree again, I don't think he makes our team weaker, now Matic made our team weaker when he played this season, Mikel was an improvement on Matic, obviously I'm not saying he was the best option.
