March 24, 201610 yr Reports that Mikel is considering a move to China at the end of the season. Been a decent player for us this season compared to a lot of the others, valuable squad player. But if the Chinese come in and offer silly money, maybe we should bid him farewell. I don't see how he fits in with Conte's team selection and I don't think he's been that great. He was exceptional against Palace and if he could play like that more than once a season then he's the type of player you could conceivably build a team around but he's not going to do that. It's a shame because if you go back and watch that match it's an almost perfect performance, up there with Fabregas's away at Arsenal and as good as you will see in this league. It's also sadly a reminder of what could've been. He has every tool to be one of the best midfielders in the world. Physically and technically he's almost flawless. It's just the mental side that doesn't let him down as such, but he doesn't have that switch that truly great players have. In that Palace game he took responsibility and controlled the match and that's what great players do. He just doesn't do that anywhere near enough.
March 24, 201610 yr Can't see Mikel pushing for a move to China personally. I think he's happy at Chelsea, has a few years left on his contract and I would expect him to still be here next season.

Next year is his final year of his deal. Has reportedly been offered an extension but has decided to leave it until the end of the season to decide what to do. Doesn't sound like somebody who is tripping over himself to re-sign.
March 24, 201610 yr Hopefully he moves on, he's been decent this season but we need better players than Mikel to get back to the top of the pile.

It may be true that he will not lead our midfield but where can you find such a handy squad player? There are not many who stay at a club an not be first choice everytime. This is at the same his advantage and disadvantage.

This is at the same his advantage and disadvantage. I don't know because the ones we have who are highly rated don't get to play and get loaned out for years at a time. I'd rather we try to progress them that have Mikel who doesn't have much to his game at all IMO and hasn't improved in years. I'd have kept Ramires over Mikel but again he himself wasn't good enough for the starting 11 but could offer more from the bench than Obi. Conte will probably bring in his own players who will dominate the middle of the park, so I don't see the likes of Mikel getting much of a chance.

If you're looking for a player who can hold a lead then he's good, but surely Ake could come back and do the same. What you're describing is John O'Shea. Yes they are useful but they're ten a penny. I reckon either of those two, especially Ake would be able to more than adequately cover Mikel's role within the squad with added versatility.

March 24, 201610 yr yeah i admit RLC could have this role but why Ake? Isn´t he LB or can he also play as DM? He's very capable of playing in DM role. I'd say he's better there than at left back personally.
March 24, 201610 yr Been made Captain of Nigeria which should be useful experience when he captains Chelsea next season
March 24, 201610 yr Been made Captain of Nigeria which should be useful experience when he captains Chelsea next season Been captain of Nigeria for years and usually takes control of the games. Just dithers too much in chelsea and I guess it's probably because he came in as a youngster with a lot of older "club legends" there who set the tone and he has just kind of been professional and done what Managers say to the letter. Maybe to the detriment of his own game. One of those situations where you can't win as dammed if you don't or do.

March 24, 201610 yr Or alternatively should add a nice little premium onto his Chinese transfer fee Sometimes, just sometimes, you gotta let something go.
April 2, 201610 yr He has shown his true value in the games against PSG and Everton. Today's performance cant really change my opinion of him. Still want him gone this summer.
April 2, 201610 yr Mikeldinho with the skill today, in all honesty I'd keep him over Matic, Matic has been woeful and Mikel hasn't, besides strong characters in the dressing room are important and he seems to have a good relationship with Loftus cheek. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QJc34W3qXgU Edited April 2, 201610 yr by Floyd25
April 2, 201610 yr His performance today was perfect. I know much won't be said or wrote about his part in the first goal vs the villans, but his dribbling helped set that score up & opened up space for Cesc to perform a magic trick. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MH-vzrTIqXg ps...@Zinc help me out here - maybe you have a *.gif of the build-up

Leaders should always be on the starting 11 else not in the club at all. If a player isnt good enough to start then the should not be allowed to project any influence.

He's a specialist holding midfielder, and Conte doesn't use them does he? Might finally be the right time for him to leave.

April 3, 201610 yr *cough* Didier Drogba *cough* unable to read the situation... drogba came back because he knew he's on retirement period, why do you think he left in the 1st place? because the club let him known that torres would be the main man and dogba, said himself that he wasn't prepared to play 2nd fiddle.. try to ask a fit drogba at his peak on the bench, it'd be a posion chalice.. scolari did that and we knew what happened..
