Newcastle v Chelsea (PL) 02/11/13 KO 12:45 GMT

Featured Replies

Back to the premier league after our victory over Arsenal in the Capital One Cup, and we're off to St. James's Park to face Newcastle.

Extremely optimistic about this one, Newcastle are reeling from a local derby defeat to Sunderland and they have looked extremely fragile. Jose to field our strongest XI, Torres included, and go for all three points.

Arsenal and Liverpool clash later in the day so this is a fantastic chance for us to gain some more ground on Arsenal.

Prediction: 3-0 to Chelsea.

I'll go

                                          Cech

Ivan                         Cahill           Jt               cole

                              Lamps      ramires

               Hazard                Oscar           Mata/ schurrle

                                        Torres

3-0 chelsea torres x 2  ramires

Yep will probably be this team, feeling very confident given our relative form although Newcastle have put up a good challenge against us in recent seasons.

Anyone know if Coloccini will be fit for this?

On the other hand they'll be a wounded animal with a point to prove!!

I think we'll get a win, but I don't think it will be easy.

Torres must start (how often have we said that!?)

For the first time, I was missing Torres yesterday. Phew! Never thought such a day would come.

                  Cech

Ivanovic - Cahill - Terry - Cole

        Ramires - Lampard

    Schurrle - Oscar - Hazard

Newcastle have been pants for the most part this season so hopefully we should beat them without too many problems.

We should gain ground on Arsenal or Liverpool if we do our jobs this weekend.  Newcastle haven't looked good at all but they can always give you a game.  I don't expect it to be easy either, but we should pick up the win.

Fixture list for the weekend:

Newcastle v Chelsea

Fulham v Man Utd

Hull v Sunderland

Man City v Norwich

Stoke v Southampton

West Brom v Crystal Palace

West Ham v Aston Villa

Arsenal v Liverpool

Everton v Tottenham

Cardiff v Swansea

As you say should we win, the Arsenal V Liverpool game means we can gain on one of them, although a draw would be the best result for us.

Can't see Fulham or Norwich doing us any favours against the Manchester clubs personally but you never know.

Hopefully Everton can get a result against Spurs.

Has the potential of being a good weekend for us.

City will demolish Norwich but Fulham could get something from United and it's well within Everton's power to beat Spurs.  Lukaku and Berbatov to play blinders.

Away at Newcastle has been a fixture we haven't always done particular well in. So I reckon it'll be a draw. 1-1 Lampard with the goal

I know we've always had problems in November but this November is literally set up perfectly for us with the spot we're in. Our next 3 fixtures are Newcastle, West Brom and West Ham. If we can get 3 points from each of those matches I reckon we could see ourselves atop the table with 3 points separating us from the 2nd spot.

Lampard hasn't looked anywhere near like scoring for weeks now. What do you base this on?

                       Prediction:       Newcastle 0         Chelsea 3

Ahh so begins the time that, in recent seasons, has seen us drop down the table like a stone and our hopes of challenging for the title evaporate.

A game at a Newcastle side lacking form and confidence, while we have beaten a rival in the league cup, the main rivals in our CL group and one of the favourites for the title in the past week. Should be a case of showing up, doing what we have been doing of late, and getting 3 points no?

But it is November, the time of our recent seasons demise, it is a 12:45 kick off, wayyyyy up north which sometimes catches us half asleep.

So we will see if that true Jose attitude and belief Lamps has spoke of today has returned. While Arsenal and City are more difficult opponents to face, it was games away from home where we had to fight, face crappy weather and eek out the 3 points that took us to the titles under Jose in his first reign, ala Blackburn.

So this game is a good proving ground for what we are made of now imo.

I thought both Essien and Mikel looked great against Arsenal, and they played a strong midfield.  I watched the game with some mates who are all rivals, and they all thought Essien should play more often.  I'd like to see him get a league game with Ramires, I think we'll be far more stable from the middle with him than Lampard.

Also think Mata and Luiz should get starts.  Cahill is still having trouble holding the line, which played Aguero onside for their goal and he did it again against Arsenal but he managed to make a recovering tackle.  He really needs to iron that out.  I'd like to see Dave get another start but I don't think it's likely.

Masacar to return for this game I think. JT to return prob with luiz with ash and Ivan at Fb. Rami and lamps though I'd prefer rami and mikel. And our 50million striker up top.

Schurlle to come on if things not going as plan otherwise Willian for one of the 3 amigos at some point. Ba on the bench as well against his old side .

Lampard hasn't looked anywhere near like scoring for weeks now. What do you base this on?

How about the fact that he is Frank lampard and has scored over 200 goals for the club? Good enough?
