Who would you prefer we buy?

 

 

I'm would love for it to be Matic(if I had to choose one or the other), as he's as good of a CDM as we'll get and exactly what we need. 

 

But then again a midfield 3 of Ramires Matic Guarin in a 433 would be awesome as well.

How many people actually watch matic for benfica or do we all take the word of his agent and think he is a 40 mil player?

Matic's most promising asset (at least against us in the final last year) is on the rebound. He will intercept and then drive forward and pass, he set them away so often against us. 

 

That I would sign up for. That first ball is so important when looking to break teams down on the counter.

I think we need a CM and a DM so both would be good, however, I'd still feel embarrassed paying Benfica loads of money for a player we gave to them for free.

I second Fernando Reges, + his contract is running out so Porto can't rip us off. Guarin + Ramies won't be a balanced pivot.

The 40m is his release clause, not the minimum price Benfica would consider.

 

The actual price being talked about is in the region of 25m

Hi guys, first time poster long time lurker.

 

I'm a Benfica fan, ex wimbledon fan and since 2004 a Chelsea fan.

 

I believe Matic would be ideal for Chelsea.  Personally i believe he's top 5 in his position in the world, maybe top 3.  He would be the best Defensive midfielder in the Premiership.

 

The great thing about Matic is that he provides everything you would want from a defensive midfielder but with the added bonus that he's got great technique, can shield the ball well and is a really great passer. On top of that he's good at set pieces something that Chelsea could do with and best of all he's a leader.  I look at the current Chelsea team and i don't see enough players who will take control of a game ala Keane, Viera.  Obviously he's not as good or as dynamic as these two but he would provide a protective shield whilst also providing distribution from the back.  He would form the spine of the future Chelsea team.

 

I look around and i see very few players who can do what he does.  Javi Matinez, Gundongan (although he seems box-to-box to me), Busquets.  He's better than Bender and he's better than Khedira (although different).  He actually reminds me of Michael Carrick but stronger in the challenge, more dynamic and more defensively sound.

 

What i see is a Chelsea who struggle to pass the ball and create.  With Ramires being first choice and his passing being average at best we really need someone who can sit in front of the defense, pass and distribute whilst allowing Ramires the freedom to roam.  Matic would be that guy.

 

If Chelsea could get him for 25 million pounds believe me that's a steal.  However I personally don't think this figure is realistic, Benfica could balance the books by selling off some other players and they probably wouldn't sell for that low.

 

Anyway, he'd be a big loss to Benfica but if he were to move i'd rather he came to Chelsea as i think he's someone we're really missing in the centre of the park.

To be honest our deep midfield department is so lightweight that adding both would give us new options and added depth.

I dont rate Matic, i think he is massively over rated and wouldnt be cheap. Pogba looks like a real talent but would cost a fortune.
