Demba Ba - Burning the Midnight Oil

Featured Replies

We’re not suggesting Demba Ba was pumped up by the injury to team-mate Fernando Torres and Jose Mourinho’s subsequent comments that it was Ba’s chance to shine… but the Chelsea striker was in the gym at midnight last night.

After yesterday’s win over Manchester United, Mourinho said: “It’s time for Demba. It’s a pity because Nando (Torres) is in a good moment, but it’s time for Demba.

“Demba had a fantastic week; (it was) very difficult for me to leave him out of selection because he worked very, very well.

“Next matches is for Demba or Samuel.â€

The former Newcastle man appears to be enthused at the opportunity coming his way that he posted a video of his late night workout.

He wrote: “Midnight…. #beastmode #determination #hardwork #success #smile.â€

Go on Demba!

He's barely making the bench now days so you would think he would be lacking match fitness/sharpness.

Stoke at home in the FA cup is our next game so we might see him get a rare start in this one to ensure Eto'o is kept fit for the league matches.

Definitely

If pumping iron keeps him a bit more upright I am happy with that.

The purchase of some longer studs would certainly be a worthwhile investment.

Very much looking forward to Demba getting some games.

A limited player, of course; but with game time he will get you goals in the Premier League. He just hasn't had a run of games so far for us.

This is he chance to impress and I'm predicting a brace against Stoke, something which would give Mourinho a nice headache.

Ba has his obvious limitations, but also 39 goals from 74 starts in the PL, which is not to be sniffed at. I don't think we've utilised him as well as we could have and he's never had a proper run in the team. I hope he takes his chance to do well against Stoke.

Can't stand up, needs longer studs, weird balance, shooting practice?

Oh please.

If only some of you could cut Ba even a fraction of the slack you have shown a certain famous expensive flop for the past three seasons the man might have a chance. Maybe he just needs an Alice band and a catchy nick name to win your love?

Englishman is spot on with his summary of Ba. Go Demba.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion dude, Ba isn't Chelsea class as far as I'm concerned.

Also I've never stood up for Torres.

Did Torres run over your dog or something? Jesus Christ you've not stopped slagging him off since yesterday afternoon where he played for about 15 minutes.

Hopefully Ba does start to shine but the point that he keeps falling over is valid, the man looks like he's playing football on ice.

And has a weird balance, always looks like he's gonna fall over

Thats because of his dodgy knees as far as i can tell, he runs in a weird way

Jose knows we're going to have to rely on him more than he originally planned so is giving his confidence a boost with a public show of support. I'm personally not a massive fan but fingers crossed he can do a job for us.

But the thing is, he's barely had a chance to prove he isn't Chelsea class. He gets the odd start and the odd sub appearance often with big gaps in between. He's never had the opportunity to get settled. I'm not sure if he's even started two games in a row. It's no wonder he doesn't look sharp whenever he does make an appearance.

Everyone agrees that we need a centre-forward who can score goals. Well, for all his limitations, Ba can score goals. Even his record with us (9 goals from 20 starts) is pretty decent. I still reckon he can be a useful player for us. Hopefully with Torres out for a while he'll get his chance, and take it.

He is a proven Premier League goal scorer in teams where he has been supplied by James Perch and Louis Boa Morte from his midfield.

Now he is not somebody you want to build your the future of your attacking play around, as he is a very limited poacher, but he will get and has got goals with minutes.

Personally, I'm a fan. I think he is a good option aswell when we are struggling to break down a team and be a bit more direct. Pretty down to earth chap too, would always spot him pottering around Newcastle to get a haircut or walk to the stadium.

Come Demba, I know we'll be able to see you pray a few more times as a Chelsea player. Take that energy from the gym to the pitch and prove to Jose that you are to be taken seriously.

But the thing is, he's barely had a chance to prove he isn't Chelsea class.

His goals verse the manc sides last year showed that he is CFC material. I can't decide which goal I like better. The one vs manure or the one @ Wembley vs Citeh? I let you be the judge:

Looking back on your life you will always see pivotal points where things could have gone either way. This is one of those times for Demba.

It looks like he's also realised this.

We have 2 easy home games to get him firing ready for citeh away.

The genius of the man we have as manager is such that we now appear to have three capable, if unreliable, strikers.

I still think our strikers are relied on to create goals out of nothing and that as a team we need to be more effective in creating chances for all players.

I miss those passes.
