Funny thing for me is,he is what the pro Mikel squad say about Mikel.stable,reliable,nothing fancy-but gets the job done.one IMO is fantasy(Mikel)the other(matic)is real.

Not a great midfielder by any means ,however matic is functional.

 

So what defensive midfielders would you say are superior in England to Matic right now?

He's also 30 matic is 25 and still improving. KoK is manc on constant wind up

Toure's lethal going forward but dosen't defend at all and relies of Fernandinho to cover for him, our 1-0 win there was what happens when he plays without him.

Let's take a look at Jose's signings this season.

Salah still needs time to come into his element but I've been more than satisfied with Willian and Matic, they've had great impacts respectively.

The more I see Matic and Willian play the more I realize Mata really was surplus to requirements. Pains me to say that still but it's becoming more and more obvious with each passing game.

I think Matic (possibly Willian) was the only Jose signing. And he approved the others. Salah and Schurrle definitely seemed like club buys.

Mikel is pretty good when we need to hold a lead. He has great composure on the ball. While Mikel will never be a WC midfielder he still is pretty good albeit one dimensional.

 

Matic on the other hand is already a WC midfielder and still getting better. We're lucky that the club decided to swallow their pride and get him.

I disagree Mata was surplus to requirements ok he hasn't got the stamina,energy and the speed that Mourinho wants in the attacking players but he also had attributes that alot of the others dont have.There are games this season where i feel if Mata was playing behind the striker our football would have been better and we would have created more chances and score more. 

Salah was a Mourinho signing.

Not his best performance yesterday, and if I had one major concern of Matic it's that he is terribly one footed.

That's just nitpicking, Messi is very one footed doesn't do him any harm. 

I know it's nitpicking, but the issue being, I think in his position as a DM he needs to develop his right foot more so than Messi (a very unfair comparison in my mind).  Yesterday, when he was under pressure he kept trying to make it over onto his left foot and it cost us several times.   I'd just like to see him develop both his feet a bit more.  Yesterday reminded me of watching someone play basketball who is only comfortable with one hand, and rather than switch to the other, they just keep bouncing the ball out to the side using the hand they're comfortable with.

 

Again, this isn't me trying to slam him as a player, I'm just saying he needs to adjust his game a little and not be so heavily reliant on just one foot

His best game of the season. Goal aside, he was back to his beastly self today after a rather ordinary start to the season.

Good energy, crisp passing, driving forward on occasion and blocking attacks. Great performance.

Definitely out-shines Mikel comes to Goal scoring

Speaks English quite well, has a rather good grasp on the language actually. Always impressed when foreign players speak the national language of the club team that they play on. Just like how Jose spoke in Italian while at Inter, Spanish at Real, English here...
