Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

It'll be interesting to see what shirt number he takes with Torres on 9 and Ba on his preferred 19.

Glad this move is getting closer. We've missed a decent striker for a number of years now.

Torres is leaving, he removed "Chelsea player" from his twitter bio. Not sure why he'd do that if he was staying.

How? His release clause is £32m at the start of the game. You can get him for 28M if you negotiate

Not going to lie. I don't really want him.

I am on the fence with this one actually. While he seems like a good player his antics wind me up a little. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens.

A good signing IMO who will be able to handle the rough and tumble of the premier league. He might need to calm down a tad, or he could end up being a marked man by premier league referees.

I still think we will need a good ball playing central midfielder to get the best out of him, rather than a Sandro or Paulinho kind of player.

Happy with this - a very good striker.

To be frank - I'm a bit worried about this signing, if he is meant to be the man we're pinning all of our attacking hopes on.

- He has only scored more than 10 league goals in one season.

- Buying a player who is coming off of an injury that he has been rushed back from always concerns me - even if it is just a hamstring.

- In the very small sample size of our two games against Atletico, I don't think he looked particularly strong against the big physical defenders we has trouble with last year.

- The attitude concerns that people have raised are worrysome, especially if he is going to be the main striker, with no other large signing to compliment him.

That said - I really hope it works out and many on here will have watched him a lot more than me - we could do with a top drawer striker - and (hopefully) welcome to Chelsea!

It's on The Times too now so looks like a done deal.

Chelsea’s £32 million signing of Diego Costa is imminent after the Atlético Madrid striker passed a medical while on World Cup duty in Spain. It is understood that members of the club’s medical department examined Costa in Madrid earlier this week before the Spanish squad flew to Washington DC, where they play El Salvador in their final World Cup warm-up match on Saturday.

Chelsea received the final results today and will press ahead with the signing having agreed to pay the buy-out clause in Costa’s Atlético contract several weeks ago. The 25-year-old’s medical had been delayed by the hamstring problem which curtailed his involvement in last month’s Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid, but Chelsea’s staff revealed no other injury concerns and confirmation of his signing is expected in the next few days.

Chelsea were anxious to complete the deal before the start of the World Cup, as Jose Mourinho is planning a considerable overhaul of his squad this summer, and little other transfer activity will be possible during the tournament. Costa could be the first of four Atlético players to move to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea are also involved in talks to sign Felipe Luis, Koke and Tiago, while Thibaut Courtois will definitely return to west London after spending three seasons on loan with the Spanish champions.

Costa was instrumental to that first title triumph since 1996, scoring 36 goals in 52 matches to earn a place as Spain’s first-choice striker ahead of the World Cup. Mourinho is hoping that the Brazil-born front-man can reproduce such goal-scoring form in the Barclays Premier League, as he complained repeatedly about not having any “real strikers” last season. Samuel Eto’o as already been released, while Chelsea are also looking to offload Fernando Torres and Demba Ba.

He's not signed yet nothing confirmed. Atletico president said Chelsea have to pay his release clause.

Which Chelsea obviously are planning on meeting.  A medical wouldn't have been completed if the agreement between the two clubs hadn't been reached.

The only hurdle now will be personal terms.

Who reckons Costa will become our penalty taker now Frank's left?

Could be good for us to be able to boost our strikers numbers with penalties, never did Shearer or Henry much harm.

Nah Hazard will be the pen taker for us I reckon.
