Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

So if Athletico are selling us Luis and Costa, do they expect Courtois in return?

I dont think they are selling us them because they want to. We have met both players release clauses so there isn't too much they can do about it. Courtois isn't there player they have recently signed a new GK i think although may be wrong.

Interesting article.

The key issue I have is the perceived lack of discipline, he always seems on the brink of explosion. But then again I always had the same fear with Drogba and he turned out alright.

Nah.

Costa looks like a south American drug lord

GOl GOL GOL GOL GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL

Welcome to Chelsea Costa.

Jose Mourinho has asked Chelsea to secure the signings of three more of Atletico Madrid's Spanish League winning side after the London club concluded Diego Costa's €38million acquisition. In addition to that quartet of Atleti Champions League finalists, the Chelsea manager expects to have Cesc Fabregas at the heart of a revamped midfield next season.

A transfer of fee of €33m has been agreed with Barcelona for Fabregas, who have offered the former Arsenal captain around the Premier League as they seek cash for a rebuild of their own. The 27-year-old is understood to have accepted Chelsea's personal terms and committed himself to joining after the World Cup. Mourinho has approved the signing.

Chelsea are also working on moves to bring Brazil left back Filipe Luis and Portugal midfielder Tiago from Atletico, while approving Mourinho's request that Thibaut Courtois be brought back from a three-year loan at the Spanish champions. Courtois is to be granted a substantially improved new contract as Chelsea's starting goalkeeper.

Tiago -- one of Mourinho's first signings as Chelsea manager when bought from Benfica in the summer of 2004 -- is set to return to Stamford Bridge once his Atletico contract expires at the end of this month. Filipe Luis' transfer is the most complicated of the four, with other clubs interested in the 28-year-old defender and Atletico asking Chelsea to include players in the deal or meet a €25m buyout clause

Chelsea completed the long-planned acquisition of Diego Costa after the Spain international passed a medical last week. The center-forward's buyout clause was triggered and he informed Atletico of his intention to join the London club, where he has agreed to a contract that makes him one of their best-paid players.

Mourinho's pursuit of a striker who possesses the explosive, combative style of Didier Drogba dates back to last summer when he convinced Roman Abramovich to fund a late bid. Though that approach failed because Diego Costa had already committed himself to Atletico for a season in which he went on to score 36 times in 54 appearances, an agreement was reached during it for him to join Chelsea this summer.

Offers from Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal were rejected as Diego Costa held his promise to join Mourinho, allowing Chelsea to secure a goal-scorer whose true market value has swollen to around twice the agreed fee. With as many as three Atletico teammates making the move alongside him, and a large Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking contingent already ensconced within the club, Chelsea are confident the 25-year-old will adapt quickly to the Premier League.

After generating close to £100m from the sales of squad players David Luiz, Juan Mata and Kevin De Bruyne, Mourinho also remains in the market for a first-choice central defender. Paris Saint-Germain, meanwhile, are understood to have accepted the improbability of extracting Eden Hazard from Stamford Bridge this summer and are focusing their considerable resources elsewhere. Among others, the Qatar-owned club are pursuing Manchester City's Yaya Toure and Barcelona's Dani Alves, both of whom have encouraged their interest.

Well he is one of the hottest strikers in Europe and in perfect age at 25. Imho he is also Jose and Prem type player. He's a bit nasty but I don't mind at all as long as he doesn't get red cards.

Brazilian-born Diego Costa has been the man identified for the job, and since early April rumours have surfaced that Chelsea already have an agreement for the star.

His personality and attitude are traits which are highly important for Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and the self-proclaimed Special One will be delighted to hear from Diego Costa’s father Jose Costa that the striker shares Mourinho’s win at all costs philosophy.

“He never liked to lose. If he lost a game he would spend all day in an angry mood. He has been a fighter since he was small, he’s not afraid of anything.

"He only cares about winning and that has been shown in Atletico. He never keeps anything and always gives his all. Moreover, what he offers Atletico and Spain now is reflected in each game, he plays as if it was his last game.” Jose Costa said, quoted by the Spanish newspaper AS.

His club Atletico Madrid, however, remain hopeful that he will stay yet they appear in a perilous situation as a result of the 25-year-old’s reported £32 million release clause.

Currently on international duty with Spain as they prepare for their World Cup defence in Brazil, Diego Costa gave the biggest hint yet that he’s Chelsea bound as he responded to reporters question over his future that ‘it looks like’ he’s on his way to Stamford Bridge.

Diego Costa’s ability in front of goal is evident for all to see, as his 36 goals in 52 appearances last season is as good as any other lone striker in Europe.

Is Diego Costa the perfect striker for Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho?
