Diego Costa to Chelsea

Featured Replies

I tend to think he just suffered a crisis of confidence and was overwhelmed by the expectations. He was a good finisher at PSV but at Chelsea he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn door.

It went very wrong for him when he joined us. Before he signed for us he had 172 goals in 6 seasons. Since then he has only scored 66 goals in 10 seasons.

Yeah exactly, I think we read too much into the league a player is playing in without really looking at things like how they're settling in. Like Crespo mentioned earlier, I honestly thought he was going to make Henry look like a Chris Sutton in comparison but he couldn't settle off the field. Sometimes it's just dumb luck that changes fate- if Torres was fit and scored vs Liverpool on his debut I imagine the past few years would have a very different script.

Chances created in the penalty area this season (up or down on last season).

Man City 11.8 (up 0.1)
Arsenal 9.2 (up 0.5)
Chelsea 9.2 (down 0.7)
West Ham 8.7 (up 2.0)
Southampton 8.4 (up 0.5)
Liverpool 8.3 (down 1.5)
Man Utd 7.5 (down 1.4)
QPR 7.4 (promoted)
Stoke 7.3 (up 1.4)
Newcastle 7.0 (down 0.1)

Wow if we had Diego Costa last season we would have walked the league given the chances we created (more than this season).

That is surprising. I thought with having Fabregas and Costa our chances created stat would be up this year. Maybe it's because of the lack of long shots this season

I doubt it as it says penalty box chances, long shots wouldn't be included in those stats I wouldn't think.

Oh right, yeah i should have read it properly

Did a lovely little run Vs newcastle too but scuffed the shot and Coloccini managed to get it away, although i thought it would be missing too. He does seem to lose the ball quite a bit during build up at times but other times he seems to click perfectly. Certainly in sync with Hazard and Oscar and it shows in the movement inside and around the box.
Stuttered a little recently but i think the last match would show he still knows how to knock it into the back of the net.

It feels so damn good to have a proper goal scoring striker back at the club.

Ha ha, even something as innocent as that looks sinister with Costa. Pass me the ball or the bunnies get it.

If he tried taking them through airport security they'd be convinced they were full of Colombian marching powder.

Costa: "Fifteen goals is a good mark and I hope to improve it, but more important than my goals is the team is winning." #CFC (chelseafc)

Costa: "Of course it is nice to be the topscorer but when I came here my aim was to win the league." #CFC (chelseafc)

Costa: "If no titles then being topscorer does not matter much individually. The most important is to win the titles first" #CFC (chelseafc)

Costa: "As the structure of the club is one of the best in the world, it has been easy to settle" #CFC (chelseafc)

He has settled here instantly, I have a feeling he will be here through all his good years, hopefully that's a long time.

do you people consider him brazilian or spaniard?

I was reading this BBC article on the victory over Swansea

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/30758437

"The Argentine's attempted back-pass to Fabianski was picked off by the Spanish striker..."

I would think normal if I had read "picked off by Spain's striker". But spanish striker? Costa is more brazilian than Spanish. He didn´t lose (nor renounced) his brazilian citizenship... his family still lives in Brazil AND he said in interviews he wanted to finish his footballing career in Brazil before retiring in Brazil

Plus he already wore the canary jersey

Such a clinical finisher. Add his fantastic ability to attack the space, and positioning to that and 17 goals in 19 matches is the answer. Fantastic player.

Not even getting tricked into reacting to defenders trying to wind him up. Williams the fool tried his best today, but failed spectacularly.

He seemed sluggish in the previous couple of games, but it looks like he's back to his best. Great performance, looked very menacing.
